. Perry County Circuit Court. Judge Parrett and Prosecuting Attorney Hargrave arrived from Cannel-
ton on Fridav niirht. the business of -r 1 the Perry Circuit Court having been closed cut. Michael Sanders and Charles Lorey were sent to the penitentiary for three years for the crime of burglary. The case was an aggravated one, as the burglars attempted murder. One of them was armed . with a razor, with which he attempted to cut the' throat of a young "man who was sleeping in the store, with whom he had a desperate fight. The punishment.' is deemed inadequate to the crime. '. 'A man named Ayres was sent , to the penitentiary for two years for asassault and battery with intent to kill his own child. This case came up on a change 'of venue from Crawford Couny. - ' : ', i' A woman on a charge oi infanticide was acquitted from the fact that no examination had been made at the time to ascertain whether or not the child was alive when bora. The celebrated hog case which has from time to time occupied the attention of the court was again tried with the usual result disagreement of the jury. The Value of the hogs sued for was $30. and a judgment for that amount had been; obtained before a Justice of the Peace, and an appeal was taken to the Circuit Court. It has been tried two or three,' perhaps four, times, and each time the jury has failed to fiud a verdict. The costs in the case have already run up to over $3oo: - County Convention. The Republican County Executive Committee held a meeting on Saturday afternoon at the office of Alvah. Johnson, Esq., on Third Street, at which there was nearly a full attendance of the memr beri ! i he special bbjjec t'JoT ihV m ee ting was to cphsider3thQVtime, place and methodjOf holding a( convention toVomrnate candidates for the county offices to be 'filled at the October elec tion. It was resolved to . hold the : . iTT-T.-. " .'. tion on Saturday, the 7th of ber, at ,the Court House in Convention September, Evansville, to assemble at 2 o'clock iv M. It was ' a!so 7 jesolved that it be made ; a Mass Con4veation1, and that ail Union voters of the county be invited to participate. It is expected that the votes will, be cast by townships, in the proportion of their party strength, but it was thought best to' leave the details of organization to the Convention, when assembled. In a free conference upon the political situation' of the county, the1 promise of continued success was very encouraging, and the only fear was that the enemy was encouraged to hope for lethargy in the Union forces and thus steal a victory while the. frieds,of the county were asleep. - It is true, it is only a county election, .but we must be awake to the importance- of polling our full strength A Mysterious Affair A Man and4 Woman DRONED.On Saturday mdrtnnl1 last,4 before "flaylighk two passeng&i--a man' and a woman left the steamer Rose Hite at Alton, Crawford County, ana Were " noticed by the Ageit of the jacket, Company goingrtip tbe bank' towards ibe( town. On arriving at this city, the man left his wife 'on Cox & 'Humphrey's wharf boat, and left, as he said, to see if the boat the Rose Hite at the upper wharf boat was -going up the river, since which time; he has . not been seen or, heard of by his wife. who re mains dn the wharf boat m a state of painfui suspense, and entirely destitute of money. Tbejr wore on their way to Cannelton, where relatives of the missing man reside. The man was beyond the meridian of life. Foul play is suspected. . . - Teachers'. Institute It should not be forgotten that the Teachers' Institute meets at the Lower School building thii f morning.' This is expected to be one of the most interesting sessions of the Institute ever held in this city. Among the distinguished educators who will be present are Profs. Daniel Hough, of Cincinnati, andT- W Harvey, of Ohio. ... Prof. Gow, Superintendent of the Public Schools of the city. Miss Ada Locke, of the Oswego Normal School, Mr. F. C. All the teachers in the city schools and of the count' are expected to be present, and ;the public is invited. The Institute will continue in session during the week. Recorder's Court. There was but a single case adjudicated in the Recorder's Court on Saturday.'
