Weathrr and Wter. The weather yesterday morning was clear and quite sultry, which culminated in rain. The river continues to decline rapidly, and, as some remark, seems to be about drying up. 't Arrivals and Ieparture. The arrivals and departures up to three o'clock yesterday include the Darling, Memphis to Cincinnati ; Empire. Cairo to Louisville; Newsboy, Henderson, to return; Quickstep, Cairo, to return; Wild Hoosier, Rising Sun, to return; Eau Claire, Green River, to return. Boat Dnt. Among the first boats due here are the New York for St. Louis; Empire and Champion, for Memphis; Minueola, from Memphis; Ezra Porter, for New Orleans; Mayflower, from Cairo; Phantom, from Tennessee River; Chattanooga, from Cumberland River. Jf iscel laneonw. Business on the levee continues decidedly dull, with but few arrivals The Empire passed up shout 1 o'clock yesterday morning almost entirely light, and the Darling an hour afterwards in nearly Ihesame condition, bnt having abargein tow. The Darin g l nl mi bales of cotton for Cincinnati The Quickstep had C5 hhds. of tobacco, (rt.ix'-'shiiigles, 138 bags of wheat, and a large amount of miscellaneous freight and a good passe nger trip The Wild Hoosier brought down two boats loaded with bowlders, having left one on Scuftletown bar .The Newsboy had 45 hhds. tobacco. She made but one trip yesterday.... ..The Eau Claire had a full cargo of tobacco The Mary Swan was full of freight, including l,OuO sacks of corn and a vast amount of lurniture. She got off about 3 o'clock As we predicted, to use the language of the Louisville Courier, a pleasant rain fell about noon yesterday, modifying the heat, and was followed by other showers during the day. As the first storm broke, the dry dock containing the Ada Lyon parted its moorings and drifted nearly across the river. The Wild Hoosier went to the rescue and towed the dock back to her station. Boats lftlinTo-HT. For Cairo. The splendid light draught Mayflower, the piide of the Lower Ohio, goes to Cairo at 4 o'clock to-day. offering unsurpassed" attractions to passengers and shippers. Capt. Billy Lowth is in command, and Billy Dunn and Geo. Throop are in the office. She Is admirably adapted to the low water trade, as she is very light. For Louisville.- The Ella Faber takes her plae in the Louisville and Henderson trad to-day, having been thoroughly repaired and refitted for duty, and offers especial attractions to passenger and shippers. Capt. John H. Peckenpauah, an experienced steamboatmau and an accomplished gentleman, is in command, and George Patterson, who has won an enviable reputation as a polite and obliging clerk, has charge of the office. The Ella Faber leaves for Louisville at 6 o'clock this evening. For Casselton.-The Ollie Sullivan, Captain Hugo, returns to Cannelton at 10 o'clock to-day. She makes all the landings. For Green River. The Win. White is the regular Green River packet this evening, and is an excellent and pleasantly appointed steamer. Captain Drinkwater and John Adams are her chiel officers, and are great favorites with the people, (leanings from nnr Ex ht litres. Cincinnati. The Commercial of Wednesday says: The weather yesterday was clear and mild. At Pittshuigh. the River is stationary, with ii) Indies In the channel. Here it has receded 2 inches rinrine the past 24 hfaits. with 3 feet on Risinsj Sun bar, the fhi'i. 1 t point hen-- to Louisville. Capt. lts will introduce th- Ida Rees in tne PoMsmoutb and Cincinnati trada during low water, leaving here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Starlight goes in the Marine Docks. The Bertha came off yesterday, and will receive a new coat of paint near the Water, works. We regret to announce that Capt Prather of the Magnolia, is very ill. Captain Dan Marntta arrived from Pittsburgh yesterday. The Groesbeck has gone on the Eureka Docks for repairs. Mr. Hartupee, the noted Pittsburgh machinist, is in the city. Louisville. The Courier of Wednesday says: The river was still falling yesterday and gra'lnal.y seeking low-water mam." with only three feet four inches water in the caua!, in the evening, by the canal mark. With the due allowauce'Jor mud, we can repoit four feet large in the canal. The weather is clear and rather 1 for the season, the thermometer at noou ranging at & in ti e shade. The navigation of Kentucky river is now no better than the Cumberland or the Ohio above Cincinnati, it is played out, or rather the water has run out, and the Dove No. ;!, he lightest draught steamboat ever built, could not ge- up :o Lock No. 1. There was not water enough at the lock to floa a skiff, and Captain Sanders has retired from the trade until the next rain, and has laid up the Dove alongside of the Wren, at Jefl"eronville. The Cumberland Island or dam, just opposite the mouth of the Cumbeiland aud the town of Smithlaud, the channel has cut through a ongside of Dog Island, the Kentucky side of the Island. The channel of the river at that point is frequently making divisions ttespiiu the dam which was expressly built to throw the water to the Smithiand shore, but in low water it has found an outlet or channel through a breas in theuaiu, close to Cumberland Island ; so now, the first time in four years, the deepest water is nown by Dog Island, on the Illinois side of the river.which effectually cuts off smithland. The comnniltee of merchants aud boatmen that met yesterday 'o establish tue Tennessee River Pacnet Line, or Packet Company, did not get through with their labors, and are to meet again this morning. Let none fail to attend, as the final programme is to be presented to-day aud acted upon. And their work will not be completed when their line is established. Then the interesting part will begin that of the backers running their hands into their pockets to furnish the "sinews." That will be the fun. ST. Louis. The Democrat of Wednesday snys : River falling rapid'y here. Illinois and Missouri still ou steady decline. Steamer Davenport found only four feet ten inches o:i lower rapi'!s, aud falline pretty fast. Business fair. It is about to increase to large proportion. Every Northern Line packet will be actively employed in the upper Mississippi trside by the middle of AllSll. -the increase eitewncre will D9 , equally considerable.
