Towards noon it grew wanner, but by no means as bot as the weather was last week. The river Is again receding here, and is still falling at all points above, and the water will no doubt go lower than ever in a lew days. Arrival and IK lt lure. Courier of Saturday The river was about at a stand yesterday, with three feet seven inches in the canal by the mark, which is the same channel depth as the evening previous. The weath er has continued sultry and warm, though cooler yesterday by several degrees than the day previous, the thermometor not Quite up to 90. with several showers of rain in the afternoon, and the promise of more at nignt. Soon after dusk Thurs iay evening, a change in the tuen prevailing dry weather was observable, a. a a light tain com menced falling;, fol owed by a long, continued, steady, hard rain, which, if general, will add vastly to the ha: vest of tne farmer, iw the corn and vegetables were saflerins ana perishing with drouth. The rain extended Nor h bevond Indi anapolis, but it did not go very far South. At this time last year we had a coal-boat tide at ruiMDurg, ana tne present indica tions favor a good deal of rain in the mountains. A coal-boat tide just now would hi de sirable, as the stock of coal afloat unsold Is very light, and dealers have been ask ing 10 cents afloat all the week, and have threatened an advance. St. Louis. The Democrat of Saturday, says : Heavy rains Thursday nlsht and last evening, but still the river falls. The on ly effect anticipated of these late downjours, as tar as concern navigation, is that low water will be set back, but set back only a little a clay or two. But the eflect on the land is glorious and immedi ate. Weather yesterday still hotter than before. Departures few. Arrivals lair in number, and most of them loaded to their fullest capacity, and report freiahts on the upper rivers still increasing.
