For.Other River Hems See Fifth Fage. --mx ; ;".KlMr and Weather. ; ' ' The weather Is nearly dear and very hot at noon, but cool and pleasant mornings and evenings. , The river has fallen six Inches within the last twenty-four hoars. Arrivals and Departure. The arrivals and departnres up to three o'clock yesterday Include the Armada, Cairo to Evansvlll; Newsboy, Henderson and return ; Hamilton, Cincinnati to Arkansas River; Nightingale, St. Louis to Cincinnati. r BatIe. Among, the first, boats due here are the Rob Roy and Argonaut No. 2, for St. Louis ; Golden Eagle, for Memphis; John D. Perry and Mary Swan, from Memphis; Starlight, lor Arkansas River; P. W. Strader, i essenger, Leonidas, and Nick Longwortn, for New Orleans; Louisiana and Legal Tender, from New Orleans; Quickstep, from Cairo; Taraseon, from Lvuisvllle. Miscellaneous. ' Business was dulfon the levee yesterday j with few arrivals and little freight offer-ing-.l.The Phantom was getting a good trip.. .The Armada came up rather light ... The Mayflower had but little freight aboard at noon -..The Hamilton, a new boat of small dimensions, arrived from Cincinnati ' en route to Arkansas River, She draws but 11 inches light, and will ply solely in the Arkansas River.........The Nightengale was deeply loaded, and had a full loaded barge in tow;. .The Sam. Orr has gone to the bone yard. : - : .- :-- ; j Bouts Leaving: T-ly.T , i I Fob Cairo. The grand Armada, the pet of the people, Is the regular packet for Cairo to-day, at 4 o'clock. Capt. John B. Hall, a veteran river man, and universally popolar.icommands, and BUly Fowler and Geo. Ni cholson are in the office. Boat and officers are unsurpassad.; , . ' , Fob. '. Lotjisviiab. The great Taraseon, with Capt. A. T. Gilman on the roof, and the inimitable Miles D. Warren in the office, is the splendid packet for Louisville to-day at 6 o'clock. That .is all that is necessary to be said. Fob Cannelton. The excellent Ollie Sullivan. Capt. Hugo, with Master Hugo clerk, goes to Cannelton at 10 o'clock today. . -Gleaning frem mur Excbaarcg. Cincinnati. The Commercial of Monday sayst r',.' ,:;!;.;,; The weather was cloudy and warm yesterday, with a refreshing breeze and copious rans during the afternoon. At Pittsburg the river in rising, with 16K inrhes in the channel. Here it has receded during the past twenty-four hours, with only 4 feet ou Rising Sun Bar, the shoalest point hence to Louisville. . The Yankee, which passed Memphis for New Orleans, on Saturday, with a low of ice. sunk two of ber barges, one at President Island and the other at Helena. Louisville. - The Courier, of Monday says: The river continues falling despite the rain that fell so copiously around Cincinnati, with only 4 feet 3 inches water in the canal last evening, by the mark. During the previous 48 hours it had fallen 2 inches at the head of the falls and 6 inches at Portland. J On the falls last evening tier were 27 -v.oio w' ln iimpiiowiHhe Indian chute, and falling slowly. The America and General Ly tie are too heavy for the stage of water, and -uuless a speedy rise intervenes, will have to be withdrawn and lihtf-r boatshubstitnted. The Argonaut No. 2, Capt. Gus Everhart, has 3,000 barrels of cement engaged lor St. Louis. The reason she was withdrawn from the Columbus trade was that there were no boats running to lower ports to rehip on. The Beli.k Lee Immense Cylinder-!. Capt. A. McGill has named his new clipper for the Louisville and New Orleans . trade the Belle Lee, in honor of the accomplished daughter of James Brtdgeford, Esq., of this city. It is a beautiful name for a boat that is bound to create a sensation as soon as she appears In public. The name is appropriate as well as pretty, and the boat is expected to eclipse the once fa- . mous Atlantic, built for Capt. McGill before the war the boat that made the run from New Orleans to Hard Times Landing in twenty-four hours, the best run on record. The lielle Lee is to be about the same dimensions as the Atlantic, with fully one-fourth more power, a faultless model, and abundant steam power. The cylinders for the Belle Lee have been cast, the first on Saturday week, and the second on last Saturday, each requiring 15,(m pounds of molton iron. Tuey were made at the Washington Foundry of John B. Iavies & Co., and are perfect specimens, the heaviest ever made in the c'ty. The casting of the last cylinder on Saturday was sen by a large number of persons who were anxious to obs erve the modus operandi, and were highly pleased , with the to them novel exhibition. All pronounced the work complete and perlect, and all wished the greatest success to the Belle Lee. These cylinders are each 34 , inches in diameter with 9 feet stroke. , , From the Metropolis, 11L. Times, . we learn that the crew of the Richmond egaed the denizens of that little village, on her last trip up the Ohio. -The provocation was the taunting by some of the young Metropolitans of the Richmond on account of her defeat. The crew took advantage, and as the gay larks had on their Sunday- , go-to-meetic g clothes, gave them a shower of eggs, by way of accelerating their progress up the bank. The mate of the Dan Able was mulcted in the sum of S2t 50, at Memphis, the other day, Yor trying to save an innocent from , the clutches or avaricious, over-charging express wagon drivers. - St. Louis. The Democrat o( Monday says: River here still swellinsr. It la a bin riv er; bank full to Cairo, and big logs rolling Jast. The Rob Roy reports a -decline Deow Keokuk. The rise from the Minnesota Ac. has reached Dubuaue. but it is be lieved it will amount to little. The Missouri is high, but its vagaries have been '" such that we have been compelled to abstain from remarks as to its movements. 'r Low water is approaching in the Illinois As to business, signs of activity of a brisk time are becoming visible. Many boatsare laid npln this vicinity, hut they will soon be enabled to go out and earn something for--their owners and crews. Business is denominated dall, but a day never passes without a considerable amount of business transpiring at this port. . , , Who ever heard of a steamer being improved by being cufrinto four parts? yet it is to be done. The Lizzie Gill, a steamer owned here, will have her hull cut across into four parts and reunited. The purpose in tn loncn hn ihn hnll considerably, suffi cient to give it symmetrical lines, and it will be widened eight feet. -FLIT-BOAT CARGOES. The Rising Sun Insurance Company OF Rising Sun, Indiana. mHIS OLD AND RELIABLE COM J. pany, well known to the buslne river men, has established an agency ii this city, to insure cargoes of flat-boats s rates and on terms low as any compan can safely take such risks.
