The Commercial of - Friday says : At Pittsburgh the river is falling, with 24 inches in the channel. At Pomeroy,it has risen two' and a half feet since Wednesday night. Here it has receded 11 inches duriug the past twenty-four bouts, with 10 feet in the channel by the water-works marks, but only 5 feet on Rising Sun Bar, the shoalest point hence to Louisville, s The Bertha, while at the foot of the canal at Portland, backed into a fiatboat laden with hay, causing it to sink. 1 he boat and cargo belonged to Mr. Pleasants, of Vevay, Indiana and was insured for S4 000 in the Madison Insurance Company, of MadiwaT luuiaua, nuu iuc. iuin piist; ui Cincinnati. . . The Emma Floyd was towed to the dock lor repairs. Louisville. The Courier of Friday Bays: The river was falling rather fast yesterday, with 4 feet 9 inches water in the canal in the evening by the mark. During the previous twenty-four hours it had lallen 5 inches at the head of the falls and 9 inches -at Portland. The weather continues warm, and was cloudy yesterday, with the thermometer in the shade at noon at 85. On the falls last evening . there were barely 33 inches water in the pass down tbe Indian chute and falling rather fast. Tbe Democrat has the following: Good-bye. Richmond. Too much "gas," like too luucu steam, will " bust " anything, " Never blow your born until you're out of tbe woods." Selah! St. Louis Republican, '26th. Oh, let the poor fellow alone. Have some respect for old age, won't you? Don't kick a man after he's down. Charley can't help it.

We are ashamed of some of them, because they are no Louisville built boats. If they were, we'd have somethlngto be proud of. Louisville don't own a single New Orleans boat out and out. St. Louis. The Democrat of Friday
says : The river was undecided yesterday whether to rise or fall. Illinois falling steadily. Missouri and Upper Mississippi rising. The race of upper river boats, begun on Wednesday afternoon at this port. is causing a good deal of interest. Tbe Sucker State s time to Alton was 2:27, and tnen she was four miles ahead of the Belle Bike, and tf miles ahead of the Sher idan. It looks from this that the little Illinois boat passed the Phil. The latter was still behind Sucker at Hannibal and Quincy. In this connection, when much attention is directed to last time on the Upper Mississippi, we erlve the Hawkeve's exploit: In June, 1861 she made the best time recorded irom St. Louis to St. Paul, namely, 3 unys, t nours ana au minutes, in' eluding 26 stoppages. 54 landings. Round trip two hour less than a week. Memphis. The Avalanche of . Wednes day says: , Weather warm and ' sultry. The river here was receding slowly lat evening.
