Use Cry for Bread. We ask every citizen of Evansville to read the report of the meeting at the Court House last night, which will be found in this morning's Journal. ItshouId need no additional words from us to stir them up to: a liberal and prompt response. The cry for bread, from our starving countrymen, is one that no human being blessed with plenty can refuse to heed. Let the donation ;of Evansville be a royal and a cheerful one. :

The National Convention of the " Beta Theta.Pi" meets at Indianapolis. We have a special correspondent to furnish us a report of the proceedings. Four notorious thieves effected their escaperom Jail at South Bend, Indiana, on Wednesday evening. They are supposed to be now in Chicago. Alas, foolish Frank !
The subscription books of the Richmond
and Lexington Railroad were opened on the 3d of April in Lexington. The Kentucky Statesman says Lexington is a city two miles in diameter, contains 18,000 inhabitants, and has five policemen, or one policeman to every 3,600 inhabit
ant. It wants to Know 11 ii is surprising that houses burn down before the alarm of fire Is given; that houses are broken into and no clue found to the robbers; that all sorts of depredations are committed and no way to restrain them 7 , , ? . 1 The Paducah Herald thinks there can be no doubt that work on the railroad from
Vincennes to Padncah will be commenced immediately, and conducted with energy
and rapidity. The parties at the head pf it
and having the mangement of it, it says
are men of capital, of the highest experi
ence, and are in earnest in making con.,nn with the New Orleans and Ohio
Railroad at that point.
The E.. H. & V E. B. Gen. Boyle
Henderson An Explanation, , . We learn than Gen. J. T, Boyle', President, and E. O. Sebree, V'EsqA ono of the leading .Directors of the, E., H." & N. Railroad, and General Cheatham, of Nashville, are ijow.in Henderson conferring with the :City
4 Council and the citizens of that place
on the 'subject, of the proposed Road. We learn that as yet no great progress had been made in reconciling the differences existing between the . Directory and the Council. The first ordi-
nance which, was pumisnea in me
Henderson papers last week, and the
substance of which we stated in the Journal of Wednesday, was repealed and another passed by the Council, embodying a', proposition more favorable to the Railroad Company. But
we are informed that this was not ac
cepted or approved by the Directors;
and so far we have heard of no agreement.
We were assured last week that it
was the desire and intention of General Boyle to visit Evansville and confer with our authorities and eiti?
zens on this subject; and we- suppose
he may be expected here within a day
or two, if it is the design ot the directors to make an application to this.
city for subscription of stock. - j 1 '
In this connection ' we' would; state
that we have received a letter, delayed
by the mail, from Harvey Teaman,
Esq., of Henderson, in which he states that the report in the Journal ' of the conference held between the Com
mittee of that city and the Council
and citizens of Evansville, was in the main correct, and presented a fair statement of the situation of affairsOn one point, however, he thinks our report - to be properly understood,
should be more fully explained. It will be remembered that we stated that there, were outstanding $190,000 of
bonds of the old H. & N. Compa
ny; and partly as an indemnity against
them the new stcckholders in the JK. H. &. N. Company were to be given, in proportion to their subscription,
20 per cent of the capitalized stock of
the Company fixed by the appraisement of the value of the old road bed, &c. Mr. Yeaman's letter .was not
"written for publication, but as it states the matter as clearly and
concisely as we can do it, he will par
dou us for making the following ex
tract:
The facts are these: The Henderson &
Nashville Railroad Co., in or about ine
year 1854, issued 750 bonds ol 81,000 eacn, secured by mortgage on the road, and
known as "first mortgage bonds." Of these bonds about 720 passetl into the hands of the creditors of the Company; the remainder were retained by the company. It is known who are the holders of these bonds, except 190 of them, as I now remember Jthe record. . The bondholders whose names were known were joined as plaintiffs in the suit in the Christian Circuit Court, and they were made to sue, as well
for the benefit of the bond holders whose
names were not known, as for themselves t and the Judgment of .the Court was so framed as to secure the rights of all bond holders, as well those not known as those known. If that judgment is allowed to stand the $190,000 outstanding bonds cannot come against the old road in the
hands of the new company. But if the holders of the outstanding bonds should, on the ground of fraud, or on account of
the inadequacy of the price ror wmcn tne
road sold, attack the judgment, anu
ed in setting it aside so
