Mead, of Jackson County, Alabama, was arrested by the United States Marshal last week, charged with violation of the Civil llights but in purchasing a negro Bold by order of court. Mrs. Gen.-Williams, formerly Mrs S. A. Douglas, is again the cynosure of Washington. Rev. Dr. Thomas, of Dayton, haa accepted a call to the First Presbyterian Church of Cincinnati. The Prince Imperial of France, who is not quite eleven years old, is said to be an excellent compositor. The fathers of Generals McClellan, Grant, Sherman, Sedgwick, and Mansfield, were born in Connecticut. Gen. Morgan L. Smith, who was recently married to Miss Genella at .Vicksburg and set out at once to assume the duties of his consulate at Honolulu, is claimed, also, by Mrs. Mary Ann Smith, of Newport, Kentucky, who informs the Cincinnati Commercial that she is . his "true and lawful wife." ' William Wreford, the famous English wrestler, died in London on the 2d inst., aged seventy-three. He had a contest, in 1825, that lasted an hour and twenty-minutes, resulting in his first defeat. He was a well informed genial hearted old man, full of anecdotes of celebrated wrestlers ; and of scenes of the old coaching days. The London Court Journal announces that her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales, is -; and that the Princess Helena also is . In the first case, " early iu the ensuing year," and in the latter " in April, are the specified, occasions. , The Princess Clotilde was to have , about two weeks before Christmas. Brothers Hazleton, Wagstaff and Murphy belong to an organization in Troy; called "Th Praying Band." They and some forty others hold themselves in readiness to go into the country whenever and wherever they may be invited to pray. Their labors are said to be invariably followed by a powerful revival. A newspaper correspondent at Florence writes: "Italians inquire with interest as to the success in America of their countrywoman, Mme. Ristori, and are much pleased to hear that it is so great. Ristori is not so well off in respect to fortune as is supposed Her fine on the Arno, built a few years ago, cost much more than was anticipated and is not yet paid for, and it is hoped that the profits of the American enterprise will be sufficient to relieve the property of incumberance. It, is a. matter which every one speaks of here, and consequently there may be no indelicacy in mentioning it." Gen. Howard, Superintendent ' of the Freedmen's Bureau, has had two long interviews with Bishop Wilmer, the new Episcopal Bishop of Louisi ana, respecting the religious care of the freedmen. The General says that Bishop VV llmer s views on this sub ject more nearly coincide with his own than any one with whom he had communicated. It is likely a plan of operations for Louisiana will be developed which will benefit all classes greatly. She achieved -a complete success At a small private dinner of four teen plates at the Brevoort House, New York, the other day, there was an array of . titled distinction, viz.: one prince, one duke, one lord, two barons, two counts, one marquise. At the banquet given to the Con gressional party in Nashville, Tenn., General Frank Cheatham, late of the rebel army, when called on, as President of the meeting, for a speech, refused, hut offered as a toast, " Here's to the Union. General Jubal A. Early's promised history of his campaigns has been written, and is now in the hands of the publisher at Toronto. Notice of the Proposed Widening oi Water or Proat Street between Leet Street and the Alley, which divides the Fourth Enlargemei t from Lamasco. ' I860, December 27. On motion of Cbqn dim an Reitz, seconded by Councilman Miller, the following order was unanimously adopted and passed: Ordered, that six weeks Dublic notice, by
