STATE ITEMS . Alarm Telegraph. -A committee of Eastern gentlemen have arrived at IndianaDolis for the purpose of con ferring with the civil authorities in regard to the feasibility of erecting a fire-alarm telegraph throughout the city. Full particulars of the plan will be laid before the Council at its next meeting. The enumeration of voters authorised at the last session of the Legislature for apportionment purposes has been completed, every county having reported. The returns show three hundred thousand two hundred and forty voters in the State. At the Oc tober election three hundred and twenty-five thousand votes were cast. The Legislative halls are being newly furnished, and will be made comfortable as possible. Already a large number of members have secured their seats. It is reported that the contract for grading and bridging the Indianapolis, Crawfordsville and Danville Railroad has been let to one party. Terrible Death. A young son of Nathan Thoraburg accidently shot himself at his father's residence, near Bloommgsport, on last Saturday. He was attempting to clean his gun, and had placed his foot on the hammer of it. While blowing in the muzzle, his foot slipping off the hammer, the gun was discharged, driving its contents upward through his brain, and carrying away the upper part of his head. Randolph County Journal, 22d. The Herald Company. The following officers have been elected by the stockholders of the Indianapolis Herald establishment, for the first term: President, Aquilla Jones, Esq.; Secretary, R. H. Hall; Editor and Manager, Lafe Develin. Mr. Develin will have sole control of the entire establishment. Sleeping Cars. The Indianapolis, Terre Haute k St. Louis railroad have lately added three magnificent stateroom sleeping cars to their rolling stock. Settlement. Eighty-four of the ninety-two counties in this State, have made what is called the October settlement, with the Treasurer of the State. Judge McDonald is still confined to his room by an indisposition, which threatens to assume a paralytic nature. A college for the education of col ored students is about to be erected at New Albany, adjoining the Ledger office. It is intended that it shall be of a first-class character, and will be liberally endowed. Prof. C. L. Irving, of Fort Wayne, Ind., formerly of Connersville, has secured a patent, in connection with his brother, A. B. Irving, on a piano forte action. The invention consists of the combination of two key boards with the octave couplers, &c. The subscriptions in Wayne Coun ty, tor the benefit or lhaddeus Green, the young man who lost his arms by the premature discharge of a cannon at Abington, just before the late election, amount to between four and five thousand dollars. Two copies of " Brick" Pomeroy's dirty sheet come to the Madison postoffice, but the persons to whom they are addressed never call to take them out to their credit be it said. Madison Courier. " Brick" disposes of a considerable number of his " dirty sheets" by sending them gratuitously, to his lady friends in different localities. We learn from the Madison Courier that Private Alexander C. Rowlison, recently elected Auditor of that county, has been made Senior Vice Grand Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic in Indiana. The Last Hope. The Wilamac (Ind.) Democrat publishes the prospectus of the Cincinnati Enquirer and says : "The defection of the Chicago Times will cause our Democratic friends to seek for a more reliable paper, one which will never forsake principle for policy; therefore we heartily recommend the Enquirer. a ... sentenced. uur readers will re member that last summer a robbery was perpetrated in Morgan County, the burglar's breakine into the house of an old gentleman, and stealing four inousaaa dollars in Government bonds.
