We can stand under his arm with a plug hut on ami tjot Intouched. His name is H. 0. Thruston, of St. Louis County, Mo. He in thirty-six years old and weighs only 'Mi pounds, being very sparely built. Important to thik Ladim. 1'hil. Goiaaler, at No. 64 Main Street, has juat received a rare "election of Ladies' oiogant Gold Watches of Amoroa ti manufacture, the most beautiful styles every brought to the city. Also magnificent sets for ladies and an elegant variety of Siiver Ware, and a full line of articles suitable for holi.JsV . I At 1 1 1 1 4s4 4i ! aay presents, ne is now luny propared to manufacture solid jewelry, reset diamonds aud other precious stones, watches repaired with unequalled ability. Go see him. Another Mad Don Last woek, Mr. Thomas M. Hutcbins, corner of Franklin Avenue and Mury Street, observed that something was wrong with his dog, and forthwith secured him. Symptoms of hydrophobia rapidly developed, and. it was soon evident the dog was mad. He -lived five duys safely secured and then died. Tho precaution taken by Mr. Hutch ins prevented tho dog from biting any person or any other animal. We h"Po the city authorities will take warning from this oircumtitance, and the terrible death of the little girl in Babytown from hydrophobia, and take measures to prevent any similar calamity in future. It is a duty they owo to the citizens, whoso servauts they arc, thai they protect oursolves and our children from a danger far mrre fearful than cholera. We think that it would not only ho wio but humane, to order nil dogs muzzled or killed. Thoro are nearly a dozen dogs in this city which aro known to have been bittcu by rapid dog.

Mr. Willard Cu-pen-tcr called upon us yesterday to correct two slight inaccuracies in our report of the trial at Boouvillo, in which ho was interested. Mr. Cockrum not Cochran one of tho defendants, did not aver that ho had paid the notes to secure which the mortgage was given, and secondly, tho caso was only tried once in Posoy County. Tho case will bo taken to tho Supreme Court. Anotuer Case of Cuoi.era. We are informed that a young lady died of cholera iu Indopondenco yesterday morning, after an illness of throe duys. She was from Cincinnati on u visit to friends in this city. Wo did not lenrn her name. She was taken sick on Friday.
Bkkohe Ebqwre Walker. Justice Walker yesterday had a small show of business. A man applied for a warrant agains this father-in -taw on Mirety of I lie peace. Afterward s the wife came in and asked for u, warrant for a lile e-ati-e against her husband. Tn a short time both parties returned and Withdrew ibe charges. An American citizen of A fried n descent sued out a p ace warrant against a "colored QMS from Africa." He was bard to fin l out, but late in the evening Sam. Day gobbled him. What disposition was made of the case wo did not learn. Valentine Kramer swore out a warrant against Joe Robinson on a charge of stealing a double-barrel shot gun. Joe took it qui of a wagon uud put it into a coal eart and tijd the driver to carry it home. The gun
was returned to its owner. Joe said it was only done in a joke. Ho will probably find the joke was carried too fur. Mackev, Nihdet & Co., present their card to our readers this morning. This house is u consolidation of two extensive establishments, and the partners are the heads of two firms long and favorably known throughout the West und Southwest. They have a very large stock, und offer every facility to the trade than can be offered by uny house in this or any other Western city. The card of (. Maghco A Co., one of the oldest dry goods houses in the West, appears iu our columns this morning. To tho 'e who are acquainted with this market, the firm of Maghoe und Co., needs no recommendations. We would say, however, to strangers who propose buying their stocks here, that they will find a full stock and be sure of fair and honorablo dealing at their hands. Our Banking Interests. Thoro are few cities in the West more strongly supported with Banking facilities than Evausville, and there is nothing which has done, and is doing more to build up the city and ext md its trade, thau the liberal and judicious use of this capital. It is not strange that our Banks desire to be represented iu our Business Directory of the city. Their respective cards will be found in our advertising columns. It would be superfluous in us to oudorsu their management, or the fiuanciul skill and public spirit of tho gentlemen who control them. Iron IIoune. The card of tho old established house of Samuel Orr, appears in this morning's Journal. A business so Ion,? and so favorably known, ntads no commendation from us. His large und well assorted slock of Iron, Tinplate, Tools, &c, has been a mutter of necessity to the trades of this city and the surrounding country, whence they have been accustomed to draw their supplies. G roperies. Messrs. Oberdorfev & Co., successors lo tho firm of Daniel A Kali m, are before the public this morning, through tho columns of the Journal. Their stock is well selected and they will be able to give thoir customers bargains. I. Sc D. II eiman Those gentlemon, by a long course of careful attention to tho interests of their ens. turners, have built up a large and valuable trade, and take rank among the best houses of the city. Sea their curd in auothcr column. Lani'uear & Mitchell. This enterprising firm is represented, this morning, by a display advertisement. Wc are satisfied tho prolnisas they make in rcforence to duplicating tho invoices of Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Louisville houses, will bo faithfullv carried out. Their stock of Hats and Caps is one of the largest and most complete iu the West; and, buying as they dr), in large lots, from first hands, they are enabled to offer moro inducements to cc-tntry.merchants. Thomargin of profits thoy can give to retailers will tempt any purchasers who will drop in aud examine thoir stock. Henry Ayers. Tho card of this gentleman appears in this morning's issue. His facilities for supplying the trade of this region witb domestic liquors and highwinos are unsurpassed by any houso in the oity. Dealers in this department will find it to thoir interest to call on him and test tho nihilities of his stock and his pricos before mukiug thoir purchases. Hardware. Our liberal advertis ing patrons, MesBrs. George S. Sonntag A Co., by inadvertence, havo not been represented in tho Journal for a few weeks. They insert their card to day, and will make known to the
trade their special business facilities at greater length on the first of next month. Council rroccpdhigs. VCNC1I- UUAM.BEH, ) FVASSVH Ut, Nov. iO, iSW, f'ounc'i! utl in ri'Uiii 1 1 set-Inn. l'n-ticnt, Him lliitim Mayor fin kv. and i .'ouhi i : men
