The weather is rather increasing in heat, and is intensely hot during the day, although tile nights are pleasant and rather cool towards morning, with a gentle breeze from the northeast for two nights past. The river was stationary all day yesterday, and will no doubt be found falling this morning. It is falling rapidly at Cincinnati and other points above. - Arrivals and Departures. The arrivals and departures up to three o'clock yesterday Include the Phantom, Cairo to Evansville; Ada Lyon, Green River to Evansville; J1. P. Webb, Dyehsburgto Evansville; Newsboy, Henderson and return. Boats Dae. Among the first boats due here are the Talisman, for St. Louis; Columbia and Abeona, from St. Louis ; Golden Eagle and Harry Dean, for Memphis; Darling and Ella Faber, from Memphis; Rose Hite, from Louisville ; Charmer and Mary Swan,

' Miscellaneous. , Transactions on the levee were moder ately fair yesterday, though the arrivals were few.........The Ada Lyon and J. D. Webb had fair trips in.... The Sam Orr was filling up fast, and would go out with an excellent trip ....The Armada was also doing well. Among her freight were 2,000 water melons decidedly better freight at five cents each than empty flour barrels ......The Nashville, did hot seem to be do ing as well as unuul.........The water got pretty well up on Hall's wharf-boat before it came to a stand... The Liberty No. 2, we are told, is laid up at Cairo, and part of her crew has gone home 'cause so little business doing at Louisville.... The tug Hornet, with a fine tow of coal, passed down yesterday... . The .Tigris, Albion and Stella are on their way down with tows for New Orleans, and the Star, Tom Jones and A. J. Bigley for Memphis. ' . Boats Leaving To-Day. For Cairo. The wild winged Phantom, Capt. Tom. Boluss, with Charley Irwin and Thad. Captain Hodge Brown and Tom Wilson are high trumps, and will show much politeness to, passengers. Give the Webb a big trip. ... , r Gleanings from onr Exchanges. Louisville. The Courier of Monday says: .;-::;..-'.. The river was at a stand Saturday, but slowly swelling yesterday with eight feet t wo Inches water in the canal by the mark. During the previous 48 hours it had risen 2 inches only at the head Of the fails, and 6 inches at Portland. The weather continues excessively warm, with the thermometer nearly up to ninety most of the time, and several hard showers of rain Saturday and the promise of more yesterday. A change was expected with the change of the .moon, but the only change apparent is the same that has prevailed during the past quarter, alternating hours of heat and hard rains. The sun would shine out with its in tensest rays for an hour or two, then would be suddenly ovei cast with huge black clouds, and an hour's heavy rain would fall, threatening another deluge. On the falls last evening there were six feet two inches water in the passKlowif the Indian chute and slowly falling. There were five feet four inches steamboat water on the falls. Th fleet Morning Star. Saturday, performed the very difficult feat at the present stage of the water of ascending the falls through the Indian chute. She made the turn and came out of the eddy in fine style, though many " old hands" thought she couldnt do it. 'The great length of the boat was the only drawback, as she had to encounter three currents at once, which all know who are familiar with the tails. The bead, or channel, is at right angles, with the "big eddy" in the middle, and. when the boat's bow struck the swift water above the eddy, the stern would still be in the counter current below, running like a mill-race. Thut required a skillful pilot, like Pink Varble, as well as a lively boat, to accomplish the feat. Copt. K. E. Neal has gone to Paducah to superintend the repairs on the Indiana. She is to be hauled out on the Marine Ways at that point to be overhauled, and the seams caulked wherever necessary. , Memphis. The Appeal of Saturday says : Yesterday was another excessively hot day, in fact, the hottest of the season, we think. Business was tolerably active for this'season of the year. The river is rising a Httle at this point, and during the day rose some two inche, but at sunset it was about on a stand. White River is falling, with three feet to Jacksonport. The Arkansas is also' falling, with eight feet in the channel. . ' New Orleans. The Timet of Friday last the weather yesterday was intensely hot, with a slight breeze stirring, but not strong enough to keep off the striking rays of old Sol. We noticed that many of the levee laborers engaged in discharging boats , knocked off in consequence of the beat.Business on the landing inactive. Manifest of steamer Phantom to Cairo and return. Cairo W packages merchandize. St. Louis 306 empty flour barrels. Memphis 60 half barrels beer, 17 barrels flour, 5 packages honey. New Orleans 200 barrels flour, 22 barrels whisky, 40 hhds. Tobacco. Up trip to Evansville Brown, Dunkerson & Co., 8 hhds. tobabbo; J. G. Sauer & Co., 1 hhd. tobacco ; Decker A Co., 9 packages merchandize; discharged 30 tons way freight ; registered 187 passengers.
