n '? r ; LATEST NEWS- .-j;r ; v ui There is much suffering in Louisiana on account of the overflow of the country. Several caves of guano have been discovered in Cuba, and the petroleum prospects re highly favorable.
The Governor-General of Cuba has issued
orders forbidding the giving of lectures in
private houses. President Baize, of Jamaica, it is said, is passing sentence of death on prisoners of - war and conspirators taken by his men. . The Haytiens have been defeated, by the M troops of Daly, and another revolution has :been plotted. 1. ' . , There were 439 deaths in New York last week, being an increase of 27 over the previous week, of which 27 were by accident. Twelve hundred and thirty-nine cows, fed on swill, were discovered by the Board of Health in one stable in Brooklyn. Nine hundred and seventy licenses to eell liquor were granted by the Board of Excise In New York on Tuesday.

Don't Believe It. The Peoria TVanscripl contains the following paragraph; which we do not believe to be etrictly true: '.; " 'Informers.' The fact has become notorious that Copperhead informers are scattered all over the country, to report to the President who among the officeholders do not stand up to 'my policy.' These spies or informers are no doubt acting under orders, with a hope of reward. Some of them claim to speak as one under authority from A. J., and if they find an
officeholder who does not go Moses, he is 'spotted for removal. Onr impression is,
the Johnson party won't grow much under the operation, as the larger portion of the
men capable of holding office and doing its
duties do not consider that they sell their manhood when they accept office; hence they will not be likely to put on a collar
labelled, .' A. Johnson, his dog.' "
It were hardly necessary for the
President to employ Copperhead in
formers. They are enthusiastic volunteer During fthe-war Ihey were bitter opponents of volunteering, and
denounced Union ,nien as "Lincoln hirelings,'.' and manifested a hatred of " informers " of every description that was positively inspiring. The boot is now on the other foot. They "inform the President of the delinquencies of,, the , men -who elected him in spite of their opposition

work, we touched the gangrened editor of the Courier on the raw, and he, as
usual, discharges a considerable quan

fully solicit a comparison between the Work done by the Journal Bindery for

The statement of the Courier that books made by our Bindery, for the county offices, have warped and need weights to keep them together, is simply one of those lies, out of whole cloth, for which the editor of that paper has become notorious.' ;; j The,;; statement, also," that ".Mr. Isaacs is by far the best blank boolt workman in Indiana,,"- will excite a smile of contempt, at the impudence of

needless degradation. . The . officeholders who do' not approve' alt that the President has said or done, generally have the manliness to attempt no 'concealment of their opinions. The President ban ascertain where they stand without belittling the position he occupies. " If absolute abnegation of manhood and thought is essential
to - the securement or retention of positions within his patronage, the guillotine will be kept very busy, and many officials will . be removed. Let that be as it may. The people are the tribunal before which the whole ques
