The object of this Union m shall , be : To perpetuate friend&hipa formed in the service of the General trOvernment dnririE' thn late rohpllinn cherish the memory of those of our as cumraaes wno nave iauen in the service of their country; to aid nd protect those who have served in the army or navy of the United JSttes, their families and dependent cues: and to foster and pnfinnrairo a pure patriotism and love of country nine sure ana steadfast principle oi o inseparable and indessoluble Union of the States. And as a declaration of principles, and further" statements vof the general object of this Union, "we hereby re-adopt and re-affirm the resolutions passed dv tne soldiers of this county, in mass convention at Evansville on the 29th day of March, 1866, including sailors in all cases where soldiers are mentioned-. ; Irs MEMBERSHIP. SEC. 1. All personsresiding-in Vanderburgh County who have served in the; Army or Navy ofJtheQ United States, during the late rebellion, and have been honorably discharged from the same," may become members of this Union, by subscribing their Barnes to this Constitution ; Provided always, that such person shalj he strictly loyal to the Government f the United' Stales. " j Sec. 2. At any regular business' meeting of the Union, any member of this Union may be expelled or suspended for unworthy conduct, by a two-thirds vote .of all,. the members present at such meeting. 'All charge against members shall be preferred in writing, and a fair and .impartial investigation made before aetion is taken. jr AfcTiCLEIII. OFFICERS AND THEIR DUTIES. Sec. 1. The officers of this Union shall be a , President, , one VicePresident from each of the Townships m the County, a Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and a Treasurer, and said officers, or a majority thereof, shall constitute an Executive Board. Sec. 2. All officers shall be cho.seu without reference to their former rank in tha military or naval service. I H ; Sect 3. In case of the disability .or Kunoa ef tlio- Prealdeut, the duties of his office , shall devolve apon the Vice-President who stands 1 first on the records, and so on in succession. Sec. 5. Sec. 6. Sec. 7. The Treasurer shall receive alimonies accruing or belonging to the Union, and shall disburse the same on the written order of thePres- ; ideal Attested by: the Recording Secretary.. He shall make a full report of his receipts and disbursements at the regular annual meetings of the Union, and such additional reports from time to time as may be required of him. by 'thus Union ; or Executive Board. . . ELECTIONS,' AND TERMS Of OFFICE. ' Sec: 1. After the first election under this Constitution, the officers abovementioned shall be elected at the regular annual meeting, and shall hold their respective nfficca for the term of 'one year, or until tbeir successors are -elected. i ,
Sec 2. All elections of officers shall be by ballot, and a majority of the votes cast shall constitute an election. No vote shall be given by proxy, i,4. v ARTICLE V. The Union shall hold one regular annual meeting -on the 30th day of November,' in each and every year, in thecity of Evansville; but any meeting may adjourn to meet before the next annual meeting, at such time and place as the Union may determine;"" ri n ARTICLE VI. - " - r finance. ..v. Section 1. No tax of any kind shall be levied by this Union on any of its members, but all moneys shall , be raised by voluntary contributions. ? ARTICLE VII. -j MISCELLANEOUS. ., Section 1. This' Constitution may be amended by a vote of two-thirds of the members present at any regular meeting of the -Union, and By-Laws
may be made or changed by a majority vote at any sucn meeting. . ' , Sec. 2.
