terday afternoon the future Queen of the Western waters, the Belle Memphis, was launched from the ship-yard of the Howards, of Jeffersonville. Her lashings were cast away about 4 o'clock, and she glided swiftly and gracefully Into her future element to the equal admiration and delight of the builders and spectators. All concur in the statement mat it was a most beautiful launch of a beautiful boat. The steam tug, propeller. Colonel Wm. J Mav. was in close attendance upon the Belle Memphis, and taking hold of her, towed her back to the shore, and from thence she towed her to the lower wharf last evening,' where she is to receive her outfit, engines and finish. Her draught of water, without machinery or outfit. Is twenty-nine inches at the stern and less than twelve inches at the bow. She has some two hundred and sixty feet length of Keel, a snarp ana Deautinu model ior speed, light draught and carrying capacity combined, which, with her immense, motive power, will undoubtedly make her the skimmer of our inland seas. She will be ready to start on her first trip on or before the middle of June. St., Louis. The Democrat of Wednesday says:.., . v .... , River stationary, and will probably fall to-day. All the upper rivers continue to recede. . Business good. r The strikers continued Interrupting the business of the boats yesterday. 'Weather. very fine and becoming warm. The Kate Kinney Is loading for the Missouri; Lady . Franklin, Palestine, Yorktown, Emma and Blackford for the Ohio. ' Continuation or thi Strike. According to promise, our Irish and negro friends, those muscular fellows that handle cargoes, paraded yesterdavjuaornins...- in. loving proximity, the whites 1 u advance as usual, with John Tobln, bead centre, In front, on a prancing white steed, and a few of the vainest in carriages, smoking real Havannas. xney naa a nana oi wmteanaone oi black musicians, which created an unusual sensation.; Drays, and everything else of the sort. had. .of course, to succumb to the i . parading', propensities of these sons of toil. They have partially gained their point, but - they say that they will continue - their amusements, until they have gained all. We are - persuaded that they will be disappointed.- There are some determined men among steamboat companies. The - Keokuk packets) have" braved it out so far, and we are under the impression that they will not succumb. All day. the crew of the Andy Johnson worked, assisted by cabin crew and officers, and even the captain of the boat and sorthanded officers of the Company avowed their determination -to handle freight rather than submit to the demands of .men who have no right to make them. The crew of the Johnson and of other boats were" contented and will continue to work if intimidation does not drive them from their labor. , . Memphis. The Aikilnnche of Sunday says: . K . r ' The weather yesterday was clear and pleasant. Business on the landing was extremely dull. . Freights for Arkansas and White Rivers continue scarce. The river here declined twelve inches in the past twenty-four hours. The Alice Dean will be at the whar Monday morning to receive for Cincinnati, and leaves on Tuesday. She has on board another shipment for the destitute of Alabama, donated by the generous citizens of Qulncy, and carries it t'reeof charge by the benevolent Memphis A Cincinnati Packet Company. Commodore Hoople, the efficient Superintendent of this line, has volunteered to carry all freight for Uie poor of Alabama free of charge. -...- V QUEENS WARE. J. W. BARBOUR & CO.
