' Struck by Lightning A widow lady named Miller, residing in the upper part of Lafayette, was struck by lightning, on Saturday evening, as she was sitting near the cook-stove in her kitchen reading. Being alone, she lay senseless for some time before being discovered. She has experienced no inconvenience since recovery, but on the contrary was cured of neuralgia, with which she had Deen sunenng.- - ! i .' ; Mrs. Totler,- the; prosecuting witness in the case of the State vs.. Add. Evans, that excited so much attention in Lafayettee, and indeed throughout the State, a week or two ago; has been handed over by her securities, and is now in the Tippecanoe jail. She was under bonds to answer for an attempt on Evans' life, and her securities feared she was determined to try it again since his acquittal. ! The Latest, The latest Eastern fashion for a bonnet appeared on Main street yesterday. It consisted of two rye straws, tied together with a blue ribbon on the top of the head and red tassels suspended at each of the , four ends of the straws. It was a " love of a bonnet," price only nineteen dollars. -Richmond Telegram.. . i . : . j The Connersville Times, in' refer ring" to' the proposed Johnson Convene tion, to be" held at Cambridge City next Thursday , says that David Kil-j gore is scheming to secure a nomination at that Convention. It predicts that in the event of a Republican being nominated, the : Democracy will also have a candidate in the field. The Times is opposed to the entire scheme. Bridge Burned. The bridge over Flint Creek, near West Point, on the Wabash Valley. Road, took fire on Saturday, and was partially, destroyed. It may have taken fire from a passing train; but a more reasonable presumption is that - it was set on fire by the gang of incendiaries : infesting that neighborhood for -some months past the same who burned the house and barns of ; Major Hall.
