' - f To Bowlinj Ctreen. 5 C'-ii Mr. E. B'. Allen, of Trre Hante, wlio left MunfordsTilte, Ivy, en Tuesday ' evening last, furnishes the lu liaaapolis Journal with the fact that Genera! BaeU's ftrmy had advanced on Bowling. ' Green. On Monday Tnorning at eleven o'clock- the troopf began crossing, and a continuous stream ponred over till eleven at night. Over 17,000 men had crossed up to that hour,, including one regiment of cavalry and five liattenea of artillery. Oq Tuesday three more batteries were taken over, and Wednesday the brigade in which 13 our celebratfd Gertasin regiment, were to cros3. ; The same gentlernan corroborates the information' thnt VfTe rebela were evacuating Bowling Green. The Journal doubla this, howevw, thinking tha rebels not likely to abandon the only obstruction in our way" to Tennessee. But the rebel Generals may entertain a hope of annihilating the army Binder General Halleck in the vicinity of FortHenry, by a rapid concentration of all his foicejat Bowling Green and Columbus, Indeed we see no other way of escape for the rebels bat of the dikaioa in which HaUe;k'as Sudden movements have placed tue.m.' They are compelled to stake ail oo a desperate throw of the dice. If the rebels abandon BowH tg Green and Co! utabus. without -a fight their men will become so dcniorali7ed that tha oflicers will no longer exeecisa a;iy control oer them. !f they ' jailly"retaain' in those positions they will be atfUnkedj their communications cut off, and they will -be starved into eurreudering.-'Tha most ferocious animals become taeie- wlsen deprived of food, and we have no reason to believe that the fire-eaters' wilt prove an exception to the rule. - - - Tke Situation on tht TenatHcr. At the time of writing we Lave received no intelligence of an attack nj-on Fort Donelson. We gather from the correspondence of the St. Louis papers, a number .of items ofinterest in regard to the " sit nation" of oor forces and the prospect bei'ore them. The high water which has .enabled our guuboat3 to reach FIorcuce' and display our flag in Alabama, is just now the most formidable foe of our army on the Tennessee. The moat around Fort Henry has assumed the dimensions cf an inland sea, and the fort itself is sn island. The "narrow neck" of land between Forts s Henry and Donelson, is little better than a ' quagmire, and it ia almost impossible for tha army to move. The water, however, reached ."ita highest point on the 8th, and is now falling. But if the attack on the Fort is delayed, it may be attributed to the impaesable char-' acter of the roads. v , , - s , I Among the many incidents connected with the fight, is the followirjg, from the Missouri Democrat: A company of cavalry was stationed at the railroad bridge twenty miles above here, . and upon the approach of the gunboats on Thursday evening, tu Captain, with characteristic Southern hragadocio, drew : up his men in line on i.Lo river baak with "tLe evident intention of . blowing thent out of water, ihe little rebel guaboat. Dunbar was just above the bridge, bi t as soon aa our gunboat approiuuic-d, as may be imagined, beat a speedy retreat. - ; latent upon the capture of this prize, the cavalry company was entirely overlooked, -atid, as I have above stated, were bravely paraded 'tip behind the trees of lh river ,bu:ik, with, to all apitrances, exceedingly - l.o&tile iutent. Their donble-barrel-.had bee: duly loaded with the inevitable buck-shat,, and then came tbe rtad'j present wbeOj ; with an interna! shriek which penetnited - to ' the very marrow cf their bones, went wbto.ing - by after the Dunbar one of t!irt Gonesu.ga's shells. Tbe concluding ordec of -jlre, .was never given, but, with one imiversal shout of horror, Captain and men sn&tiered for the woods, leaving beLiud tii..-t, ia rjaoj instances, even thsir hats. My nifuraiant the keeper of the draw-brid svbo was witness of the scene, still reraios as a trophy the variant Captain's ' sombreroi. He tells me that three of th j eorjipnriy were drowned in the back vvau-r if ttie tiver in their hasty flight. - - " - - ; The Federals have ; exhumed nineteen dead bodies ' siocn : w Japfxfedne' fort, which had been hurriedly, 4 baried in cne heap after the fight and: lefjre one men reached the fort.
