Scrofula, or King's Evil. i, a constitnional disease, a corruption of the blood by which this fluid becomes vitiated, weak and poor. Being in the circulation, it pervade the whole body, and may burst oat in disease in that partof it. No organ is free from its attack, nor is there one which it may not destroy. The scrofn Ions taint is caused by mercurial disease, low living disordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, above all. by the venereal infection. Whatever be its origin, It Is- hereditary in the Constitution, descending "from parents to children, onto the third and fourth generation indeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, "I wilJ visit the iniquities of the fathers upon tbeir children. " Its effects commence by deposition from the Wood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the tangs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tubercles; in the glands, swellings; and, en the surface, ernptions or sores. Thi foul corruption, which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of lite, so that scrofulous constitutions not only stiff or from scrofulous complaints, but the? have fur loss power te withstand the attacks of other diseases ; consequently vast numbers perish by disorders which, alibougb not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered fatal by this taint in 4he system. Most of the consumption which dectmates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous contamination ; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of ail the orirans. aj-tae from nr ,m ??ravu. ted by the sasse cause. - One quarter of all our people are scrofulous; their persons are invaded by this lurking infection, and their health is undermined by it. To cleanse It from the system we must renovate the blood by au alterative medicine, and invigorate it by healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we snpply In . V. yers's Compound Extract of Sarsaparflla, the most effectual remedy which the medical skill ef our times can devise for this AVArvwhnrA nr.. ailing and fatal malady. It Is combined from tbe man active remedials that have been discovered for Che expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the syBtem from its destructive conseauences. The particuiar purpose and virtue of this Sareaparilla is to purify and regenerate this vita.! fluid without which sound health is impossible in contaminated constitutions. -sl "x xt nz; m 9 m FOB THI SPEXDY CUBE OF Intermittent Fever, or Fever and Aaue. Re. rtittent Fever, Chill Fever, Dumb Ague, Periodical Headache, or Bilious Headache, and Biliou Fevers, indeed, for the whole class of disease originating in biliary derangement, caused by the Malaria of Miasmatic Coun tries. We are enabled bare to offnr th remedy which, while it cures the above complaints with certainty, is still perfectly harmless in any quantity. Such a remedy is invaluable in districts wnere tnese atuicting- disorders prevail. This "Cm" expels themtaamatio poison of Fxvra an Ague from the system, and prevents the developments ef the disease, if taken on the first approach of Its premonitory symptoms. It is not on -ly the best remedy ever yet discovered for this class of complaints, but alno tbe cheapest. The large quantity we supply for a dollar brings it within the reach of everybody; and in bilious districts, where Feveb and Aoce prevails, everybody should have it and use it freely, both for cure aud protection. A great superiority of this remedy over any other ever discovered for tbe speedy aud certain cure of Intermlttents i that itcontaina no Quinine or Mineral, consequently it produces no quinism or I injurious effects whatever upon the constitution Those cured by it are left as healthy as if they had I never had tbe disease. ; Fever and Ague is not alone the cousequence of the miasmatic poison. A great variety -.f dlsordreasariae from its irritatiou; among which are Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Gout, Headaeht, Blindnmi, Toothache, Earache. Catarrh, Asthma, Palptiatum, Patnful Affection of til Spleen, Hysteric, Paint Bowels, Colic Paralysis and Derangement of the Stomach, all of which, when originating in this cause, put on the intermittent type, or become periodical. This " Cube ' expels the poison from the blood, and consequently cures them all alike. - It is an invaluable protection to immigranU.or persons travelling or temporarily residing in the malarious districts. . If taken occasionally or daily while exposed to the Infection, that will be excreted from the system, and cannot accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into disease. Hence it is even more valuable for protection than cure, and few will ever suffer from Iotermittents if thov avail themselves of the protection this remedv afford. Prepared by Dr. J C. Fellow-Citizbns : In a few days the Provisional Government of the Confederate States will live only in history; With it we shall deliver np the trust we have endeavored to use for your benefit, to those more directly selected by yourselves. The public record of onr acts is familiar to yon. and requires no further explanation at onr bands. Of those matters which policy has required to be secret, it would be improper now to speak. This address, therefore, will have no personal reference. We are well nsured that there exists no necessity for ns to arouse your patriotism, nor to Inspire your confidence. We rejoice with you in the unanimity of onr state, in its resoli tion and its hopes. And we are proud with you that Georgia has been "illustrated," and we doubt not will be illustrated again by her bods in her holy straggle. The first campaign is over ; each party rests in place, while tbe .winter's enow de clares an armistice from on high. Tbe re suits in the field are familiar to you, and we will not recount them. To some important facts we rail yoor attention. First The moderation of onr own Government and the fanatical madness of our enemies hare dispersed all differences of opinion among our people, and united them forever in the war of independence. la a few border States a waning opposition is giving way before the stern logic of dally developing facts. The world's history does not give a parallel instance of a revolution based upon such unanimity among the people. Second Our enemy has exhibited an energy, perseverance and an amount of resources which we had hardly expected, aad a disregard of constitution and laws which we can hardly credit. The result of both, however, is that power which is the characteristic element of despotism, and renders it as formidable to its enemies as it is destructive to its subjects. Third An immense army has been organized for our destruction, which is being disciplined to the unthinking stolidity of regulars. With the exclusive possession of tbe seas, our enemy is enabled to throw upon the shores of every State tbe nucleus of an army. And the threat is made, and doubtless the attempt will follow in early spring, to crush us with a giant's grasp by a simultaneous movement along our entire borders. Fourth With whatever alacrity our people may rush to arms, and with whatever energy our Government may use its resources, we cannot expect to cope with onr enemy either in numbers, equipments or monitions of war. To provide against these odds we most look to desperate courage, unflinching daring and universal self-sacrifice. Fifth The prospect of foreign interference is at least a remote one, and should not be relied on. If it comes, let it be only auxiliary to onr own preparations for free dom. To our God and ourselves alone we should look. These are stern facts, perhaps some of them are unpalatable. But we are deceived in you if you wonld have us to conceal them in order to deceive yon. The only question for ns and fur you is, as a nation and individually, what have we to do ? We answer: First As a nation we should be united, forbearing to one another, frown ing upon all factious opposition and censorious criticisms and giving a trustful and generous confidence to those selected as our- leaders in the camp and the council chamber. Second We should excite every nerve and strain every muscle of the body politic to maintain our financial and military heartfulness, and by rapid aggressive action, make our enemies feel, at their own firesides, the horrors of a war brought on by themselves. The most important matter for you, however, is yonr individual duty. What can we do ? The foot of the oppressor is on the soil of Georgia. He comes with lust in his eye, poverty ia hia pnrse and hell in his heart. He comes a robber and a murderer. How shall you meet him ? With tbe sword, at tbe threshhold I With death for him or for yourself 1 Rut more than this let every woman have a torch, every child a firebrand Ut the loved homes ef your youth be made ashes, and the fields of our heritage bt made desolate. Let blackness and ruin mark your departing steps, if depart yoa most, and let a desert more terrible than Sahara welome the Vandals. Let your faithful slaves share your for una and yoar crust. Trust wife! and children to the. sure protection of God preferring even for these lov ed ones the charnel house aa a home thai loathsome vassalage to a cation already sunk below the contempt of tne civilized world. This may be your terrible choice, and determine at once and without dissent as honor and patriotism and daty to God require. Fellow citizens : Lull not yourselves into a fatal security. Be prepared for every contingancy. This is our only hope for a sure and To nor able peace. If onr enemy was to-day convinced that the feast herein indicated would welcome him in every quarter of this Confederacy, we know bis base character well enough to feel assured be would never come. Let, then, tUo smoke
of your homes, fired by women's hands, tell the approaching foe that over sword and bayonet they will rush only to fire and ruin.
We have faith in God and faith in you. He is blind to every indication of Providence who has not seen an Almighty hand controlling the events of the past year. The wind, the wave, the cloud, the mist, tbe sunshine and the storm have all ministered to onr necessities, and frequently succored as in onr distresses. We deem, it unnecessary to recount the numerous instances which have called forth our gratitude. We would join you in the thanksgiving and praise. " If God be for ns, who can be against us ?'' Nor would we condemn your confident look to onr armies, when they can meet with a foe not too greatly their superior in numbers. The year past tells a story of heroism and success, of which our nation will never be ashamed. These considerations, however, should only stimulate ns to greater deeds and nobler efforts. An oc casional reverse we must expect- such as has depressed us within the last few days. In is is only temporary. We have no fears of the result the final issue. ' You and we msy have to sacrifice onr. lives and fortunes i a tbe holy cause; but our honor will be saved untarnished, and our children's children rise np to call us "blessed." Howell Cobb, R.
