It is the same story eighteen hundred Federal troops are attacked by 6,000 rebels and we are defeated, with the loss of one of our ablest commanders Col. Baker, of the California Regimeat. Wg are told that re inforcements "t be seut forward ' . e. our brave dov3 will be reinforced when it is too late. One of the unfortunates a minister of the Christian Church says that be was an eye witness of tbe most atrocious acts of vaudalism, commuted by Zolltcoffer'i marauders. He stated thm they took from the stores, grocerief, and private dwellings everything they desired, but seemed more particularly eoLcitous for clothing, shoes, blankets, and provisions. They also took possessiou of and drove off all the live stock upon the farms in that country, and many persons had been robbed of all the horses, cattle, sheep, aud hogs that they possessed. They even went i -'her, and, ia the spirit of mere waotonuesa and , brutality, they destroyed what they did not want, even to the ciotoing of the women and children. 'i be Aojuiitut General of Kentucky has issued an order, announcing that all companies forming in the State wjich, on j tbe 10th day of November next, shall not be filled, will be consolidated into full companies, with a view to tbe speedy filling of regiments. This is a wise arrangement and may result in raising several regiments far seswice.
