Corwin, agent of the State, is here to look after the wnnts of the Commissary department of the Ohio troops. A London letter gays Col. It is understood that an attack on the Aquia Creek batteries will be made by the land forces. A special to the Express s;iys, by the end of the week the Government expects to have 25,000 men in Virginia, near Alexandria, 20,000 at Grafton, 20,000 near Harper's Ferry, 15,000 at Fortress Monroe and 10,000 around Baltimore, Annapolis, and Relay House. A Richmond dispatch reports that a lawyer from "New Hampshire was hung as a spy by the South Carolina volunteers. It appears that the frigate Powhatan is blockading Mobile. A special to the Commercial says two thousand South Carolina troops are reported at Brownville a tew miles below Fairfax. The woods near Fort Washington on the Potomac have been cleared away and redoubts erected by our troops. Baltimore, June 2. The rebels seized the western mails, coming east this morning, at Harper's Ferry. Nsw York, June 2. The Herald says W. F. Washington, son of the late Colonel Washington, was captured in the Fairfax affair. It is reported that the battery at Mathias Point proves to be a wood pile. Lieut. Tompkins' official account of the Fairfax matter does not differ materially from the first report. He says three of his men are missing, three slightly wounded, and six horses lost. He thinks the killed and wounded rsbels were thirty-five. He brought away five prisoners. The Tribune's Washington dispatch says Emerson Etheridsre has arrived from Tennessee. He says East Tennessee will show a large majority for the Union. Civil war is unavoidable if the rest of the State secedes. Soldiers are distributed through the State to overawe voters. The disunionists are well armed. The steamer Northern. Light arrived at New York from Aspinwall, with $373,000 in specie. M. D. Sherman, of O., will be appointed Quarter Master General. Five more regiments have been tendered from Western Pennsylvania. Chambersburgh, June 1. There will be no movement southward before Wednesday. Washington, June 2. The official account of the Aquia Creek affair agrees with the other accounts. The enemies' batteries in range were silenced. Only one secessionist injured. The 71st regiment did not go to Aquia Creek, as reported. The accounts received from England state that Adams was presented by Lord Palmerston. ImportantState dispatches reached bim on the 17th. The attitude of the British Government is not decisively ascertained. There is nothing new from other Governments. Among the ridiculous rumors was one that Col. Wilcox had joined the rebels and that twenty Michiganders had been captured by the rebels. Another Zouave was shot last night. A battalion of regular cavalry and a battery of artillery have proceeded towards Fairfax Court House. Chambersburgh, June 2. It is certain that a portion of the force here will soon occupy Frederick. An incendiary fire at Alexandria was extinguished by the soldiers. Chambersburg, June 1. A slight skirmish took place to-day between a company of home guards and the Virginians. The force of rebels is supposed to be 2,000. Oa Saturday the Freeborn approached within two miles and commenced the fire. The Pawnee took a nearer position. For the first hour the firing was brisk from the shore batteries. During the engagement the Pawnee fired one hundred and sixty shells. One shot went through the Freeborn's cabin. The Pawnee received eight shots. The Anacosta returned here this morning. The Pawnee and Freeborn hauled off, being unprepared for a long engagement. The Railroad Depot and buildings ashore were destroyed. The rebels, it is believed, had eight guns. Fort Monroe, June 1. No military movement has taken place yet. A gentleman from between Newport News and Yorktown, who has arrived here for protection, say3 numerous families had fled, leaving their slaves, unfit for work, behind. Three hundred free negroes were forced across the James river to work on the rebel entrenchments. A distinguished rebel confessed the Unionists were right and the Secessionists deluded. Cairo, June 2. There is nothing aubentic in relation to the movement down the river from this point, but it is certain that the force at this point is to be considerably increased. At length, tired or li e, but still willing, for the sake of my family, to make another effort, I yielded to the advice cf my Iricnds, and, as an experiment, bought a bottle of your Bitters.
