The Daily Journal. ====== WIT AND SENTIMENT. ======= SPOILING FOR A FIGHT.—At the raising of tbe secession flag nJChe3ter, Chesterfield courty, Virginia, oa Saturday, and after that ceremony had been effectively and enthus'iisticfllly conpuramated ia the presence ot a large crowd, a resolution was offered declaring as the sense of the meeting, that Virginia should at once secede and join the Southern Confederacy. Upon the reading of the resolution, Capt. James II. Cox, a delegate to the State Convention, said : I rise to oppose the adoption of the resolution just read, and furthermore, to say thsit if any man says that our representative iu the titato Convention, James II. Cos, Esq., is a submissionist, 1 say he is a d d liac. A speech thus ominously began, says the examiner, from which we iuote, bad the effect, of driving nil the ladies from the portico into the- house, and by dint of great exertion on the part of some ot the gentlemen present, ("apt. Cox was induced lo close his remark?! at this point. Speeches were then made by several gentlemen present, at the conclusion of one of which, by Mr. Barfoot, Capt. Cox offered as a substitute for the pending resolution, another expressing the confidence of the representative from Chesterfield in theConvention The gentleman wa3 proceeding to argue the mloption of his substitute, when an " irreverent jester " in the throng exclaimed " hello. ' The gallant Captain promptly responded " the man that said hello is a 1 d rascal," and evidenced strongly bellicose inclinations, which, had they been met with a Like spirit, would probably have led to an exciting " scrimmage." Cooler counsels, however prevailed, and the irritated Cajituiu was finally induced to withdraw his resolution.
A Plsasaxt State op Society. The Savannah Republican of the 25th ult., has the following suggestive paragraph: Judging from the several puddles of blood to be met with yesterday morning on sidewalks in different streets of our city, it would indicuo that Saturday night was one of more desperate debauch among a certain class than is usual in Savannah. Our attention was particularly attracted, when passing in front of the Marine Bank on St. .J ul inn street, by a considerable pool of blood, and n trail of the same from it round to Drayton street,' for some distance. We were unable to ascertain the cause of it, but think that such unsightly appearances should be accounted for.

This iminenso amount could never have beeu Hold hut tor tho rare medicinal properties contained in the preparation and the sanction of tho most tromiuent pliyaician in those sections of the country where the article is best known, who not only recommend the Eitters to their patients, but are ready at all times to pive testimonials to its efficacy iu all caies of stomachic derangements aud the diseases resulting therefrom. This in not a temporary popularity, obtained hy extraordinary efforts in the way of trumpeting the qualities of the Bitters, hut a solid estimation of an invalunble medicine, w hich is destined to bo as en during is time itself. Hosteller's Stomach Bitters have proved a Godsend to regions where fevt-r and aue aud various other bil'om complaints have counted thir victims by hundreds. To be able to state confidently that the "Bitters" are a certain cure tor the Pyspepsia and like diseases, is to the proprietors a source of unalloyed pleasure. It removes all morbid matter from the stomach, purities tlte blood, and imparts renewed vitality to tho nervous syatim. ivintc it that tone and energy indispensable fur the restoration of health. It operates upon the
stomach, liver, and other digestive organs, mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them to a condition essential to the healthy discharge of the fuuetions of nature. Elderly persons may use the Bitters daily as r-r

A few words to the tntier sex. Thre are certain periods when their cares are so hurrassing that many of thorn sink under tho trial. Tho relation of mother and cl. ild is so abs;n baigly tender, that the mother, especially if she be young, is apt to forget her own health in her extreme anxiety for her infant. Should tho period of maternity arrive during the summer Reason, tho wear of body and mind is generally aggra
