Female Fosfmaeters. Holbrook's Mail tells the following anecdote cf the Hoc. Daniel S. Dickinson : A jxst ofTice rot far from his residence becoming vacant, a lively contest sprung up fjr the appointment, and among the appiicinta was a Mrs. Nancy W . ' Conpress being in session at the time, the worthy Senator, in accordance with usage "n such cases, was requested to call at the Department to look at the papers in the case in hand. The request was promptly compl:od with, aod the documents were duly inspected, not without some perplexity in the mind of the Senator, for two of his personal and political friends, both highly respectable and competent men, were, us appeared froia the papers, about " neck and neck " in the race fur office, so far as influential signatures on either side could make them f?o. But suddenly a light dawned upon the Senator. A neatly written note in a lady's handwriting came to view, applying for the office in her own behalf, aiid giving but a single name as reference, and that the name of the honorable Senator himself. He had known her deceased husbuod intimately and most lkvorably for many years, and was no stranger to the young widow herself. After a moment's rc flection he carefully returned the delicate missive to its place, and made the following laconic indorsement upon the papers: "I go for Nancy." Nancy was, of course, appointed, and is stili iaithfully serving the public in the capacity of Postmistress.

Cfeg"In the Paris Court of Correctional Police, recently, a lady, by no means young, advanced coquettishly to the witness stand to give her testimony. " What is your name ?" " Virginia Loniitatot." "Your age ?" " Twenty-five." (Exclamation of incredulity from the audience.) The lady'a evidence being taken, she regained her place, still coquettishly bridling, and the next witness was introduced. This was a full grown young man. " Your name?'1 said the judge. " Isadore Louistatot." " Your age?" " Twenty -seven.'1 ' Are you relative to the last witness?" " 1 am her son I" ' Thunder 1" exclaimed the magistrate, "your mother must have married very young."
Snobs. Burn3, hearing a young snob boast of his familiarity with the aristocracy, and that ho had dined with a party of noblemen the day before, wrote Of lordly a.-'iuaintiiuce you boast, ' Aud the dikes that you dined wi' yest' r'een ; Vrt an insect's an insect, at most, 'Though it crawl ou the curl of a queen.

HOSTETTER'S
STOMACHBITTERS.

JM. nfacturersof UOSTK7 TKK sCKLEdUATKu
STOMACH BITTEES can appal with perfect confidence to physicians and citizens generally of the
United States, because the article has attained a retintation heretofore unknown. A few facta upon
this point will speak more powerfully than vol
umes of bare assertion or blazoning puffery. The consumption of Hostetter's Stomach Bitters for the last year amounted to over a half million bottles, and from its manifest sU.. dy increase in times past, it is evident that during the coming year, the consumption will reach near one million bottles. This immense amount could never have been sold lint for the rare medicinal properties contained in the preparation, snd tbe sanction of the most prominent physicians in those sections of tho country where the article is best known, who not only recommend the Bitters to their patients, but are rea'y at all times to give testimonials to its erB'-acy in all cases of stomschic derangements and the diseases resulting therefrom. This is not a t-niporary popularity, obtained by extraordinary f Boris in the way of trumpeting the qualities of the Bitters, but a solid estimation of an invaluable medicine, which is destined to be as en during as time itself. Hostotter's Stomach Bitters have proved a Godsend to regions where fever and ague and various other bilious complaints have counted their victims by hundreds. To be able to state confidently that tbe "Bitters" are a certain cur for the Dj-s-pepsia and like diseases, is to the proprietors a sourc of nnalloyed pleasure. It removes all inoi bid matter from the stomach, purifies the blood, and imparts renewed vitality to the nervous system, giving it that tone and eneruy indispensable for the restoration of health. It operates upon the stomach, liver, and other digestive organs, mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them to a condition essential to tbe healthy discharge of the functions of nature. Elderly persons may uso the Bitters daily as per directions on the liottle, and they will find in it a stimulant peculiarly adapted to comfort declining years, as it is pleasant to the palate, invigo-atiug to the bowels, excellent as a tonic, aud rejuvenating generally. We have the evidence of thousands of nged men and women who have experienced the benefit of using this preparation while sum-ring fro-n stomach derangements and general debility ; acting under the advice of Physicians, they have abandoned all deleterious drugs, and fairly tested the merits of this article. A few words to the gentier sex. Th-ire are certain periods when their cres are so harrassing that many of thomsink under the trial. The relation of mother and child is so atjgorblngly tender, that the mother, especially if she be young, is apt to forget her own health in her extreme anxiety for her infant. Should the period of maternity arrive during the snmmer season, the wear of body and mind is generally aggravated. Here, then, is a necessity for a stimulant to recuperate the energies of tbe system, and enable the mother to bear up under her exhausting trials and responsibilities. Nursing mothers gen
erally prefer tl.o Bitters to all other invigoratois
that recolvc the endorsement 01 puysicians, oecause it is airreable to the taste as well as certain to give
a nermavent increase of bodily strength.
All those persons to wnora we nave pariicuiariy
referred above, to-wit: snfferers from fever ana airue. caused by malaria, diarrlxea, dysentery, in
digestion, loss of appetite, and all diseases or de
rangements or the siomar-n, supsraunuaina inva lids, persons of sedentary occupat ion, aud nursing uiothnrs, will consult their own physicu -lfare by
(jiving to Hostotter's Celebrated .Stomach Bitters a trial.
CAUTION. We caution thn public against using
any of tbe many imitations or nterfeits, but ask for Hostf.ttkr's OKLPBawEoSTOMAcri Bittkbs, and see that each bottle has the words I)r. J. Hoi-
