t&P'l can't undertake, wife, to gratify ali your wishes ; it would be as much as life is worth.'' "Oh, sir, that is nothing."

EaF"When Sheridan was asked at an amateur play which performer he liked best, be replied, " The Prompter; for I saw less and heard wore of him than any one else 1'' A fellow out west being asked whether Ihe liquor he was drinking was a good article, replied, " Wall, I don't know ; I guess Bo. There is only one queer thing about it ; whenever I wipe my mouth, I burn a hole in my shirt !''

A Threatening Letter. The following short and expressive epistle was received by Superintendent Kennedy, in New York, on Wednesday : " Sr. If you go on furrier with the Sunday law, you luk out for your Body, sum Party will kill you."

A Quaker's advice to Money-hunters. A prudent and well disposed member of the "Society of Friends" once gave the following friendly advice: "John," said he " I hear thou art going to be married." " Yes," replied John, " I am." " Well," replied the man of drab, " I have one little pieca of advice to give thee, and that is, never marry a woman worth more than thou art. When I married my wife I was worth just fifty shillings, and she was worth sixty-two; and whenever any difference has occurred between us since, she has always thrown up the odd shillings."

Mrs. Partington's Last. Ike read " 'If you marry,' said a Roman consul to his son, 'let it be to a woman,' " "Very proper advice," said Mr3. Partington, interrupting him ; "but I don't know how he could have given any other under the circumstances, seeing that Providence foreordained that it should be so, previously beforehand, though in one sense all the girls that marry are not women, either, because they toil not, neither do they spin, and know no more about housekeeping than the fifth wheel of a roach." "But," said Ike, putting in, "you didn't hear it all. 'If you marry,' said a Roman consul to his son, 'let it be to a woman who hasjudgment and industry enough to jH a ci'jul of vituals, taste enough to dress neat, pride enough to wash before breakfast, and seuse enough to hold her tongue.' " " Very good," said the old lady, and she nodded her head as though the idea were adjusting itself to a satisfactory place ic her mind. Huston Gazette.

Give tiik Children Fresh Air. Some parents make the great mistake of keeping their children in-doors during cold weather. Such a practice is pernicious in many respects. It eufeebles their bodies, and renders tlietu peculiarly liable to be attacked by colds and coughs. A child should have its feet well shod with socks and boots, its body well wrapped iu warm clothing, its head and ears securely protected from the cold, and theu let loose to play in the keen, bracing, winter eir. By tin's means its body will become robust, and its spirits be kept bright and cheerful ; whereas, if a child be shut up in the house, it will become fretful and teverish, and perhaps wind up with a severe attack of illuess.

HOSTETTEE'S

STOMACHJITTERS.

nrvtK p nopRiK to r jus-ii jtuus-

J6- ulni.turersof liOSTE J TER SCELEBRATED

STOMACH BITTERS can appeal with perfect confidence to physiciaus and citizens generally cf the

LDited Mates, because the article has attained a reputation heretofore unknown. A few facts upon this point will speak more powerfully than vol

umes of bare assertion or blazoning puffery. The consumption of Hostetter's Stouiach Bitters for the

last year amounted to over a half million, bottles, and from its manifest sU...dy increase in times past, it is evident that during the coming year, the consumption will reach near one million bottles. This immense amount could never have been sold but for the rare medicinal properties contained in the preparation, and the sanction of the most prominent physicians in those sections of the country where the article is best known, who not only recommend the Bitters to their patients, but ne ready at all times to give testimonials to its efficacy in all cases of stouir.chic derangements and the diseases resulting therefrom. This is not a temporary popularity, obtained by extraordinary efforts in the way of trumftiug the qualities of the Bitter9, but a solid rstimation of an iovalunble medicine, which is destined to he as enduring its time itself. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters have proved a Godsend to regions where fever and ague and various other bilious complaints have counted their victims by hundreds. To bo able to state confidently that the "Bitters" nre a certain cure for the Dyspepsia aud like diseases, is to the proprietors a seurce of unalloyed plc.isuio. It removes ail morbid matter from the stomach, purines the blood, and imparts renewed vitality to the nervous system, giving it that tone and energy indispensable for the restoration of health. It operates upou the stomach, liver, and other digestive organs, mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them to a condition essential to the healthy discharge of the functions of nature. Eljerly persons may nee the Bitters daily as per directions on the bottle,-and they will find in it a stimulant peculiarly adapted to comfort declining yeiirs, as it is pleasant to the palate, invigorating to the bowels, excelleutasa tonic, and rejuvenating generally. We have the evidence of thousands of Hg.-d men and women who havo experienced the benefit of using this preparation while suffering from stomach derangements and general debility ; !

acting miner tiie advice ot i'liysicians, tney have Hlmnilouod nil deleterious drugs, and fairly tested

the merits of this article. A few words to the gen-

th-r sex. Th'-re are certain periods when their cares are so harrassing that many of themsink under the trial. The relation of mother and child is so absorbingly tender, that the mother, especially if she be young, is apt to forget her own health in her extreme anxiety for her infant. Should the period of maternity arrive during the summer season, the wear of body and mind is generally aggravated. Here, then, is a necessity for a stimulant to recuperate the energies of the system, and enable the mother to bear up nnder her exhausting trials and responsibilities. DR. HAAS, having leased the rooms formerly occupied by Dr. Kivett. in Dr. Bray's building, opposite the Post Ollice, for aseries of years, would respectfully solicit the citiiterrs of Evansville and the surrounding towns and country, to virit his roon.s and see the specimens on exhibition, whether they need the services of a Dentist or not. Since the i. suing of his last circular and advertisement, over a year since, several improvements aud new iuvttntious have been made, of which he Las availed himself, and allows nothing that will BUbssrve the interests of his patients, to pass unsecured. His f.icilitiis are better and establishment larger, without doubt, thac auy other in our State, aud equal teany in Eastern cities. All those who need Dental oeratious performed, and are pleased with his work, shall be attended to with great pleasure. The following aro the styles of work manufanf r.red by him: Continuous Cum; Block or Carved Work; Vulcanite Base; Coralite; Amber; Osteoplastic; Gold and Silver work. ' Nothing can excel the Is auty and cleanliness of the coutinuons gum work. It is without a seam or crevice. Cheeks that are sunken can he restored to nearly their original cjitour by this etyle of work, upd also by the use of the Vulcanite, Coralite, amf Amber Base. The latter styles, lor li.-ht-neas and adaptation to diiticnll mouths, excel anycels anything we have ,-ver ..-en. He has several aiuesthi t i. s tor alleviating paiu when extracting teeth. They me perfectly' harmless. The moid delicate ran have them applied. He does not advertise anything ho cannot do, nor exhibit anything not mmlc by himself. Parents sho.ild consult the health and beauty of their children by having the Dentist direct thei second dentition, thereby producing symmetry ami health to those invalueblu organs. Irregularity of children's teeth corrected sue. cessl'ully. Those having de.aved teeth, should either have them extracted or tilled at once (the latter if possible). The health of the parties and the remaining teeth demand this. j I take pleasure iu introducing Dr. Haas, my successor to the old rooms in Bray's building, hoping he will find them both pleasant aud profitable From my intercourse with the Doctor, I am pleased to find him one of the progressing; possessing taste and high professional ability aud standing. With this view, I can, w ith safety, recommend him to the community us a skillful and competent dentist, (ranr'it) J. KIVETT.
