&Mr. Lincoln was asked whether he felt at all scared while delivering bis inaugural address, the threats of assassination having been so numerous. He replied ." that he had no such sensation, and that he had often experienced much greater fear in addressing a dozen u-estern men on thfsubject of temperance.

JGSCoal oil is said to be a sure destroyer of bed bugs. Apply plentifully with a small brush or feather in the places where they do most congregate. The cure is effectual and permanent. Gilt frames, chandeliers, rubbed lightly over with coal oil, will not be disturbed by flies.

Ax Artist. At the Broadway Theater) the other evening, oue gentleman pointed oat a dandified individual to his friend as a sculptor. " What," said his friend, " such a looking chap as that a sculptor. Surely, you must be mistaken.'' " He may not be the kind of one you mean,'' said the informant, " but 1 know that he chiseled a tailor out of a suit of clothes last week."

grxfA bright JVew kYork baby, just beginning to talk, wa3 very observant of all that passed around her. She saw a gentleman with a dog enter a house on the opposite side of the street. He shut the door and left the dog without, who, by various canine movements of scratching and whining, manifested painful impatience. Moved by his desertion and complaining, she throat her small f tee tbroueli the bars of

her nursery window; and cried in earnest tone, " Ing e bell, dogge ! bell !"

Well Turned. A discussion lately arose at a dinner, upon the basis of the right of suffrage, when the following colloquy took place : " I do not thiuk," said one 'of the party 4 that all men should indiscriminately be permitted to vote. There must be some restriction ; and if you tear away all barriers, you may as well extend the privileges still further and admit women to the polls.' 4 Women I ' quickly responded a spirited ledy on the opposite side ot the table, and why should not women be allowed to vote ? Do you mean to say we are inferior to the other sex ? ' By no means madam. The ladies, I admit, have their intellectual powers as vivid and as well cultivated a3 those who have assumed the title of 4 Lords of Creation " bnt then I like to see them in their proper sphere." 4 Their proper sphere!' And pray, sir, permit me to ask, what do you deem their proper shere ? ' 4 Why, Madam, the sphere of woman is a it is a celestial sphere !

Not Deep Enough fok Fhayinq. Wo heard a night or two since, a tolerable good story of a couple of raftsiueu. The event occurred during the late big blow on the Mississippi, at which time so many rafts were swamped and so many steamboats lost their sky riggings. A raft was just emerging from Lake Pepiu when the squall came. In au instant the raft was pitching and writhing as if suddenly dropped into Charybdis, while the waves broke over with tremendous uproar, and expecting instant destruction, one of the raftsmen dropped on his knees and commenced praying with a vim equal to the emergency. Happening to open his eyes for an instant, he observed his companion, not engaged in prayer, but pushing his pole into the water at the side of the raft. 44 What's that yer doin, Mike ?" said be, 14 get down on yer knees now, for there isn't a minit between us and purgatory." " Be aisy, Pat," said the other as he coolr continued to punch the water with

his pole; 41 be aisy, now ! what's the use of

prayin when a feller can tech bottom with a pole?" Mike is a pretty fine specimen of a large class of christians who prefer to omit prayer a3 long as they can " tech bottom."

The following are the styles of work manufactured by him: Continuous Guni; Block or Carved Work; Vulcanite Ban; Curalite; Amber; Che.o plastic; Gold and ilver work. Nothing can excel the beauty and cleanliness of the continuous gum work. It is without a seam or crevice. Cheeks that are sunken can be restored to nearly their original contour by this style of work, and also by the use of the Vulcanite, Ooralito, and Amber Base. The latter styles, for light

HOSTETTER'S ST0MACHJ3ITTERS. rgxnn pnnpitir.TORs jun wfvJL ufactnrrsof HOSTETTEKOKLKIII:ATKD ST0MAC11 BITTEIlti can appeal with perfect confidence to physicians and citieus generally of thu United States, because the article b.is attained a reputation heretofore unknown. A ti-w f.irts upon this point will speak more powerfully than volumes of bare assertion or blazoning puffery. The consumption of Hostetter's Stomach Hitters for the last year amounted to over a half million Isjtth'H, aud from its manifest steady increase in times past, it is evident that during tile coining year, th." cunsimiption will reach near one million bottlen. This iniuii'tise aiiiount could never have been sold but lor the rare medicinal properties rotituineJ in the preparation, and t he Katiction id' the imst prominent physicians iu tbone Hectiunn of tbe country whero the article i best known, wbo not only recommend the Hitters to their pat icnts, but are ready at all times to give testimonials to its eHii aey iu all cases of stomachic derangements and the diseases resnl ting therefrom. This is uot a temporary popularity, obt.a'Tied by extraordinary efforts in the ay ot trumpetio the qualities of the Hitters, but a solid estuaation id an iovaluable medicine, which isdestinedto be as en during :u4 timeitself. Hostetter's Stomach Hitters have proved a Godsend to regions where fever and ague an.l various ttther bilious complaints have counted their victims by hundreds. To be able to state confidently that the "Hitters" are a certain cure for the l'yspepsia aud like diseases, is to the proprietors a source of unalloyed plensute. It removes all morbid matter from the stomach, purities the hloo,!, and imparts renewed vitality to tbe nervous systrtni, giving it that tone and energy imlispensiti'le for the restoration of health. It eis-rate upon the stomach, liver, and other digestive organs, uuhtly but powerfully, andsiiou restores theiu to a c lition essential to the healthy discharge of tlm functions of nature. Klderly persons may use th flitters dnilv in per directions on the bottle, and they will tind in it a stimulant jieculiarly adapted to comfort, declining years, as it is pleasant to the palate, invigorating t, the bowels, excellent as a tonic, and rejuvenating generally. We have the evidence of thousand ot aged men and women who have exi-erieneed tbe benefit of using this preparation wliile suit' ring from stomach derangements hiuJ general debility , acting under the advice of Physicians, thev have abandoned all deleterious drugs, and fairly tested the merits of this article. A few words to the gentler sex. Th'-ro are certain periods whe their cares are so harrussing that many of the in sink under the trial. The relation of mother and child is so absorbingly tender, that the mother, especially if :l.e bo young, is apt to forget her own beelth in her oxtrouie anxiety for her infant. Should the period of maternity arrive during the summer season, tbe wear of body and mind is generally aggravated. II ire, then, is a necessity for a stimulant: to recuperate the energies of the svstem, and enable the mother to bes r up under her exhausting trials and responsibilities. Nursing mothers generally prefer the Hitters to all other iuvigorators that receive the endorsement of physicians, heraue it is agreeable to the taste as well ascertain to give a permaHeiit increase of bodily strength. All those persons to whom we have paricularlv referred above, to-wit: sutlerers from lever and ague, caused by malaria, diarrluea, dysentery, indigestion, loss of appetite, and all diseases or derangements of the stomiich, supurannuated invalids, persons of sedentary occupation, ami nursing mothers, will consult their own physical welfare by giving to Hostetter's Celebrated Stomach Hitters a trial. CAUTION. We caution the public against using any of the many imitations or counterfeits, but ask for IIostbtteb'h Cklkbratf.d Htomuch Bittihh, and see that each bottle has the words "Or. J Hostetter's Stomach Bitters" blown on the sb'.e of the bottle, and stamped on the metallic cap covering the cork, and observe that our autograph signature is on the label.
