Tiie Mail-Bag publishes, among other singular addresses on letters, the following: Tostmaster, there is in Westboro", Mass., A chap named Samuel Bracket, Ami you'll oblige the stupid asa, By "handing him this packet." "Hannah MomforJ Born and bred Iu Essex county, Marblehead." "Speed on. lit t le missive, to Marblehead, And find old Joe Sweet, either living or dead ; If he's living, of course he'll read this letter, But if lie s dead why, all the bettor."

COPELAND & NEXSEN,

EA u conundrum by induction" must have cost the Knickerbocker a good deal of labor : ' Why is a bee-hive like a bad potato ? "Because a lee-hive is a bee holder ; And a beholder is a spectator, And a speck-tater is a bad potato !

Ax indiscreet person is like an unsealed letter, which every one may read but which is seldom worth reading.

On the docket of a western justice of the peace appears the following : "Ordered bi this Cort that Geo. Huffer appears at this cort to make final settlement." After which appears : 'Owin' a3 the flize is so bad the abuv order is revokt bv this cort. J.'ARFETT, J. P."

A Bad Night. A gentleman was dining with a friend when a most dreadful storm arose. In hopes of abatement, the entertainment was prolonged to the latest possible hour ; but at length it was over, and the ' storm showed no signs of ceasing, but on the contrary grew worse and wone. The host insisted upon his guest's accepting of a lodging for tbe night, in view of the impossibility of reaching his home. The guest complied, but in a few minutes was missed from the parlor. In half an boor he re-appeared, drenched with rain. " Where, in Heaven's name, have you been ?" asked the ho3t, viewing the singular object, which looked like a dog around the paws and a weeping willow arouud the head. " I ," said he, quickly shaking oiF the water, " I have been at home to tell my wife that as it is such a bad night I should not return."

Mas. Swisshelm os Babies. A majority of babies are to their mothers what a little doll is to a little girl something to dress a mean3 of displ-iyiug odds and ends of finery, and exhibiting one's tastes. If infants were treated on the principle on which a good farmer treats lamb3, goslings, chickens, pigs, &c, viz : well fad and kept warm, they would live and grow, just as well-cared for goslings live an J grow ; and we never knew one die. Dutch babies wear caps; and how could any lady of taste have her baby look like a Dutch baby? Just so; and Dutch babies generally live, laugh, and grow tat, for they are not " smothered in flannel," and leathers and kept all in a " sweat." Dutch mothers do not keep their babies for model artist exhibitions, They cover them up, keep them warm and quiet, and raise a wonderful number of sturdy boys and girls. We treated our baby on the Dutch plan, and never lost a night's

sleep with her.

The following are the styles of work manufactured by him: Continuous Guni; Block or Carved Work; Vulcanite Base; Coralite; Amber; Cheoplastic; Gold and Silver work. Nothing can excel the beanty and cleanliness of the continuous gum work. It is without a seam or crevice. Above we present yon with a perfect likeness o Tezuco. a chief of a tribe of the strange Aztec Na

The inventor and manufacturer of Judson's Mountain Herb Pills " has spent the greater part

count of his adventures there you will find in our Almanacs and Pamphlets. It is an estal lished fact

that all diseases arise from IMPURE BLOOD! The blood is the life ; and when any foreign or nn healthy matter gets mixed with it, it is at once dis

tirbuted to every organ of the body. Every nerve feels the poison, and all the vital organs quickly

complain. I ho stomacn will not digest the food

i erfectly. The liver ceases to secrete a sufficiency

of bile. The action of the heart is weakened, and

so the circulation is weakened. Tie lungs become

clogged with the poisonous matter; hence, i cough and all from a slight impurity at the foun

tain head of life the Blood I As If you had

thrown some earth, for instance, In a pnre spring, from which ran a tiny rivulet in a few minutes the whole course of the stream becomes distnrbed aud discolored. As quickly does impure blood fly to every part, and leave its sting behind. All the passages become obstructed, and unless the ob

struction is removed, the lamp of life soon dies out.

Athene fills not only punly the blood, but regen

Liver Complaint, Sick Headache, Ac This AntiBilious Medicine expels frem the blood the hidden seeds of disease, and renders all tbe fluids and secretions pnre and fluent, clearing and resuscitating

tne vital organs.

Pleasant, indeed, is it to ns, that we are able to place within your reach a medicine like the " Mountain Herb Pills," that will pass directlv to

the afflicted parts, through the blood and fluids of

the body, andxanso the snttorer to brighten with the flush of beauty aod health.

HOSTETTER'S ' STOMACHBITTERS. rwvtn pb opsin tors jjvMt .wjvM nfactnrers of HOSTETTER'S CELEBRATED STOMACH BITTERS ean appeal with perfect confidence to physicians and citizens generally of the United States, because the article has attained a reputation heretofore unknown. A few fuels upon this point will speak more powerfully than volumes of bare assertion or blazoning puffery. Tbe consumption of Hostetter's Stomach Bitters for the last year amounted to over a half million bottles, and from its manifest steady increase iu times past, it is evident that during the coming year, the consumption will reach near one million bottles. This immense amount could never have been sold but for the rare medicinal properties contained in the preparation, aud the sanction of the most prominent physicians in those sections of the country where the article is best known, who not only recommend the Bitters to their patients, but are ready at all times to give testimonials to its efficacy in all cases ef stomachic derangements and the diseases resulting therefrom. This is not a temporary popularity, obtained by extraordinary efforts in tbe way of trumpeting the qualities of the Bitters, but a solid estimation of an invaluable medicine, which is destinedlo be as enduring as time itself. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters have proved a Godsend to regions where fever and ague and various other bil'ons complaints have counted their victims by hundreds. To be able to state confidently that the "Bitters" are a certain cure for the Dyspepsia and like diseases, is to the proprietors a source of unalloyed pleasure. It removes all morbid matter from the stomach, purifies tbe blood, and imparts renewed vitality to the nervous system, giving it that tone and energy indispensable for the restoration of health. It operates upon the stomach, liver, and other digestive organs, mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them to a condition essential to the healthy discharge of the functions of nature. Elderly persons may use the Bitters dwily ns per directions on the bottle, aud they will find in it a stimnlant peculiarly adapted to comfort decliniiii; years, as it is pleasant to the palate, invigorating to the bowels, excellent as a tonic, and rejuvenating generally. We have the evidence of thousands ol aged men and women who have experienced the benefit of using this preparation while stiff ring from stomach derangements and genera debility , acting uuder the advice of Physicittus, thev have abandoned all deleterious drugs, aud fairly tested the merits of this article. A few words to the gentler sex. Thore are certain periods when their cares are so harrassing that many of them sink under tho trial. The relation of mother and child is so absorbingly tender, that the mother, esecially if she be young, is apt to forget her own health in her extreme anxiety for her iufant. Should the period of maternity arrive during the summer season, the wear of body and mind is generally aggravated. Here, theu, is a necessity for a stimulant to recuperate the energies of the svstem, aud enable tha mother to bear up under her exhausting trials aud responsibilities. Nursing mothers generally prefer the Bitters to all other invigorators that receive the endorsement of physicians, because It is agreeable to the taste as well as certain to give . a permanent increase of bodily strength. All those persons to whom wo have par'icnlarly referred above, to-wit: sufferers lrom fever anil ague, caused by malaria, diarrhoea, dysentery, indigestion, loss of appetite, and all diseases or derangements of the stomach, superannuated invalids, persons of sedentary occupation, and nnrsing mothers, will consult their own physical welfare by giving to Hostetter's Celebrated Stomach Bitters a trial. CAUTION. We caution the public against nsing any of the many imitations or counterfeits, but ask for Hostf.ttkb's Cf.lebratei Stomach Bittfrs, and see that each bottle has the words "Dr. J. Hostetter's Stomach Bit ters" blown on the side of the bottle, and stamped on the metallic cap covering the cork, and observe that our autograph signature is on the label. 5 Prepared aud sold by Hostettek A Smith, Pittsburgh, Pa., and sold by all druggists, grocers, and dealers generally throughout the United States, South America, and Germany. nov!8-dAwlawlyr
