The Daily Journal. ======= Wool G bo webs vs. Dog Growers. The compilation of the Assessor's list for theStale shows that in 1860 Ohio bad 3,412,250 sheep, valued at $5,879,357. Of this num-. ber, Portage county contained 03,777, valued at 135,123 60. During tbo years 1S59-G0, there were 42,979 sheep killed by dogs in the State value $77,170 25. Injured by dogs, 22,750 value, $25,528 08 making a total loss in the State of 5102,39S 33. Portage county contributed to this grand total sheepkilled, 248; injured, 249. Total value, $813.' The coralug wool crop in this county will not net the wool growers less than 150,000, and in the State will amount to 7,000,000 or more. . Any one versed in mathematical demonstrations can from these figures ascertain the probable profit on the Ohio dog crop. Ravenna Ihi.

The Cottox Tuadk of the Pennsylvania Central Railroad. In November, (says the Pittsburg Chronicle,') as we find from the book of the Pennsylvania Railroad, 0,100 bales went over that line. The amount shipped in December, owing to the condition of the river, was bnt 3,060 bales ; but in January it reached 8,951 ; so that for the last three months we have a total of 13,123 bales. There are 3,000 bales on their way here now, and much more lying at Memphis and Cincinnati, the whole destined for Philadelphia, New York, Lowell, &c, via the Central Road. Aud with all this the business has not begun to develop itself. Six mouths hence, should the pres

ent troubles continue, and the great bulk of

the Cotton-carrying trade of the seceding seaboard cities will take the inland route to the Eastern States.

State Debt. Mr. Branham, from the Committee on Ways and Mean3, has reported a plan for the gradual payment of the State debt. It is to tax two cents on the $100 for the present year, and live cents in succeeding years, the first proceeds to be used in paying off the debt of the School Fund, and the rest to be invested in State bonds, or in other words buying up the State debt. The plan strikes us as an excellent one, and we trust it may at once be put into operation. Ind. Jour.

A lew facts upon this point will speak more powerfully than volumes of bare assertion or Llfizonin-? puft.-rv. The cotisuniption ot'llostetter's Stomach Bitters tor the last year amounted to over a half million bottles, and from its mauiient steady increase in times paHt, it is eviilent that during the romiiitr year, the consumption will reach near one million bottles. This immense amount could never liavt beeD sold but for tho rare medicinal properties contained iu the preparation, and the sanction of the most prominent physician in tho-e sections of tha country where the article is best known, who not only recommend the Bitters to their patients, but are ready at all times to ive testimonials to its erTicaey iu all cases of stomachic derangements ami tin diseases resulting therefrom. This is not a temporary popularity, id. taxied by extraordinary efforts in the way of trumpet in-.' I ho qualities of the Bitters, but a solid esttjuati 'ii ot an invaluable medicine, which is dostined to be as mi duringr as time itself. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters have proved a Godsend to regions where fever and aju and various other bilious complaints have counted their victims by hundreds. To be able to state confidently that the " Bitters" are a certain cure for the H.vspepsia and like diseases, is to the proprietors a source of unalloyed pleasure. It removes all morbid matter from the stomach, purifies the blood, aud imparts renewed vitality to the nervous system, giving it that tone and energy indispensable for the restoration of health. It operates upon the stomach, liver, ami other digestive organs, mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them to a condition essential to the healthy discharge of the fuuetious of nature. Khierly persons may use the Bitters daily a3 petdirections on the bottle, and they will find in it a stimillal t eculiaily adapted to comfort declining years, as it is pleasant to the palate, invigo-ating ti the bowels, excellent as a tonic, ami rejuvenating generally. We have the evidence of thousands of aged men and women who have exi.crienrod the benefit of using this preparation while snlf ring from stomach derangements ami general dobility , acting under the advice of Physicians, thev have abandoned all deleterious drugs, and fairly tested the merits of this article. A few words to the gentler sex. There are certain periods when their cares are so harrassiug that many of them sink under the trial. The relation of mother and child is so absorbingly tender, that the mother, especially if she be young, is spt to forget her own health 1:1 her extreme anxiety for her infant. Should the period of maternity arrive during the summer season, the wear of body and mind is generally aggravated. Here, then, is a necessity for a stimuiaui to recuperate the energies of the svstem, and enable the mother to bear up under her ex li.-iiiHi ior; trial and responsibilities. Nur.sing mothers generally prefer the Bitters to till other invigorators that receive the endorsement of physicim, becan-o ft is agreeable to the taste as well ascertain togive a permanent increase of bodily strength. All these persons to whom we have par'icularlv

referred above, to-wit: sufferers from fever and ague, caused by malaria, diarrhiea, dysentery, indigestion, loss of appetite, and all diseases or derangements of the stomach, superannuated invalids, persons of sedentary occupation, and nursing mothers, will consult their own physical welfare by giving to Uostetter's Celebrated Stomach Bitters a trial. CAUTION. We caution the public against using any of the many imitations or counterfeits, but ask for ilosTKTTEa's Oelkrbated Stomach Uittfks, and see that each bottle has the words 'lr. J. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters" blown on the side of the bottlo, aud stamped on the metallic cap covering the cork, and observe that our autograph signature is on tho label. &tm Prepared and sold by IIoktfttku J' Smith, Pittsburgh, Pa., and sold by all druggists, gr'tis, aud dealers geuerally throughout the I'liileu State, South America, and Germany. uovl8-dwlawlyr JiijrVvVcr'i''j;
