Dirt mi I o it Illustrated. The Leavenworth Republican tells the following story and applies it: One day last week our attention was attracted to a little boy who was endeavoring to pull a skiff" in the stern of which sat a larger boy, up pgainst a current around a Iair of flathoatj. Perceiving that the rowr was making but poor headway, the larger boy got up and demanded the oars ; the other objected, and a scuffle ensued, in the ourae of which the big boy ousted the other and obtained possession of the oars. For a moment the little fellow stood evidently overpowered with rage and disappointment; then suddenly seizing a hatchet lying on one of the seats, he poised it above his h ead and exclaimed : "I'm. just a goiu' to knock a hole right through the bottom of this skiff!-' "Fire away," said the other, "I can swim as well as you." " I will knock a hole through !"' " Well, why don't you knock ? It's as mur-h your skiff as mine, and I guess I can swim as well as you can. Strike I" I.ut the bellicose little mutineer did not strike ; he doubtless concluded it was not altogether safe; and throwing down the hatchet, took hi3 seat sullenly at the stern as the skiff disappeared around the boats. This trivial incident aptly illustrates the present controversy between the North and the South. The South, having failed to get possession of the " Ship of Stale," in the lute Presidential contest, now flares up with indignaliou, at.d threatens to " kuouk a hole righthrou:h" to dissolve the Union nobm rotena. The Xorth tells her to "lire away!" " But," says the South, " we will dissolve, the Union ! ' lo which the North replies, " Well, why don't you do it'.' It is as mnch yours as ours; if you prefer to detach your portion of it, we guess we shall bo able to take care of ours.;' 2jf"A mistaken idea is prevalent relative to the securities cf the Illinois banks, it be:iug generally supposed that they are mostly in stocks of the State of Missouri. This is not so. There are over one hundred hanks in Illinois, representing eleven millions of dollars, and secured by thirteen millioni of State and United States stocks. Of these there are but two and a quarter millions of Missouri, or only one-sixth of the whole Amount. Tinkham k Co. say in regard to Illinois currency : As regards the securities of the banks now in good standing, they can hardly be, from political or ether causes, depreciated much lower. The only thing that can make eventual loss on some of the bills, will be repudiation by the Southern States, some of whoso bonds we hold ; and repudiation is so far out of the question it is not necessary to think of it. SrAi;uiNi Affkat Nkau Bloominctox. On the night of the l.'Jtta inst., as a boy named Cook was returning from church about four miles from Bloomingtou, he was attacked by another boy named Whitesill, and stabbed four or five times, and, as is supposed, fatally, as at last accounts Cook wai supposed to be ftt tho point of loo.th. Whitesill fled, and his father, near whose horse the affray occurred refused the use of a horse lo convey the injured lad hot e, and his friends were compelled to carry him in their arms a distance of two miles. The affray was the result of a family feud. NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. ticoll'm Mimg-icorm uI Tttler Sate ia a saf- anil rertaiu etire for Tvtleraml Ringworm. Price 50 O'liUii box. Fr eak- by N. S. Above we pres.'iit you with a iorfect likeness of Toitucu, a chief of a tribe of the strange A.tec Nation, that once ruled Mexico. Vou w ill find a full account of tiiin iu our pamphlets and Alman.ics to ho hsd gratis frotn the Agents for these Pills. The inventor and manufacturer of "JudsoiVs Monntain Herb Pills " has spent the greater part of hij life in traveling, having visited nearly every conntry in the world. He spent nv.-r sit years amon the Indians of the Rocky Mountains and of Mexico, and it was thus that the ' Mor-jtain Herb Pilbl" were discovere.1. A very interesting account of his adventures there jou will And in our Almanacs and Pamphlets. It is an established t.i, t that all diseases arise from IMI'CR K BLOOD ! The blood is the life ; and when any foreign or unhealthy matter gets mixed with it, "it is at once distirbnted to every organ or the body. Kvery nerve fools the poison, and all the vitil organs unieklv complain. The stomach will not digest the fotitl perfectly. The liter ceases to secrete a suniciete v of biie. The action of the l.cai t is weakened, an'l so the circulation is weakened. Ti e lungs become clogged witn the poisonous matter; hence, a cough and all from a slight impurity at the fountain head of life-the Wool! As if ju had thrown some ealth, for instance, in a pure spring, from which ran a tiny rimlet in ,.w i,,inntes' the whole course of the stream l-oiio.s ,li.iori..i and discolored. As quickly does impure blood fly to every part, and leave its sting l ii,,,.. All the passages become ohslrui t.sf, an, I unless the obstruction is removed, tlie lamp oilifo s.. dies out. These Piils not only purify the biood, but regen-era-all the seen lions of the lody. T hey "are therefore, unrivaled as a ' CUKE FOR BILIOUS DISEASES, Liver Complaint, Sick Headache. Ac. This AntiBilious Medicine exp!s from the blood the hidden seeds of disease, and renders all the fluids and scretior.s pure aud fluent, clearingand resuscitating the vital organs. Pleasant, indeed, is it to us, that we are able to place within yonr reach a medicine like the " Mountain Herb Pills," that w ill pass directly to the aiUicted parts, through the blood aud fluids of the body, and cause th sntlerer to brighten with the flush of beauty and heallh.
