Only one boat, we believe, passed during the day, and she didn't land. The idea of only one boat passing Evansville at this season of the year, is as fitting a comment upon the tightness of the times as could be suggested. ......The weather, yesterday, fully corresponded, in disagreeableness, to the times. It apparently set in for a pleasant day, but by 12 o'clock the sky became overcast with clouds and rain fell freely. The rain soon gave place to snow and the day closed with a cold, windy, damp, snow storm. Ugh! When one reflects on the scarcity of money, the violence of the secessionists and the traitorous conduct of the Old Public Functionary, such weather as closed the day yesterday, added to the other evils, was very nearly sufficient to call forth thoughts of suicide. Vincennes Correspondence. VINCENNES, Dec. 21, 9 o'clock A. M. JOURNAL REPORTER:—Wabash river rose 10 inches last night, making 6 feet full in the channel. Heavy rains are reported all along. The Atlanta which has been lying here for several months partly sunk last night. The water raised over her lower deck. River clear of ice. Weather clear and pleasant. W. H. W. ......The Evansville Pony, with "U. S. Mail" painted on her pilot-house, will be found at the landing this morning for freight and passengers South. It will look like old times to see the Charley's red bow drinking the waters of the Ohio. Capt. Dexter still commands and Messrs. Bentley and John Dexter will do the honors of the office. The Charley Bowcn is a capital boat to travel on and should be crowded with passengers on her first trip with new boilers. ......The big Grey Eagle, Capt. Daniels is the only reliable boat for Louisville today. She leaves about dark. Will. Duvol has charge of the office and makes his patrons of the boat comfortable. ......Our Vincennes correspondent, we are glad to state, has made his appearance once more, and we doubt not will keep us fully posted as to the condition of things up the Wabash. ======= 73 K tiHKJT --.!., l'.il't-JH.
