RIVER ITEMS. ——— ARRIVED. Gen'l Anderson, Pad.; South Bend, Cin.; Grey Eagle, Louisville; Jacob Mussulman, Wab. DEPARTED. Gen'l Anderson, Paducah; South Bend, Ark. river; W.V. Gillum, Pond river; Grey Eagle, Louisville; Curlew, Wabash river. ——— ......The River receded near 1 1/2 feet in the 24 hours ending at sundown last evening. It is also declining rapidly at Cincinnati and Louisville, but our dispatches show a large rise at Pittsburgh. The Mississippi is quite low, a large number of boats being aground in it, with but little prospect of getting off until a rise occurs. LOUISVILLE, Dec. 11.vRiver stationary, with 6 feet 2 inches in the Canal. PITTSBURGH, Dec. 11.—River up to 10 o'clock was 18 feet by the pier mark. Still rising. Weather mild and clear. Mercury 30°. CINCINNATI, Dec. 11, M.—River fallen 3 inches. Now 14 1/2 feet in the channel. Weather cloudy and cool. Mercury 35°. ......The Weather, yesterday, was cool, pleasant, and clear. ......To-day at 1 o'clock the Dunbar takes

her departure for Paducah. She has long been in the trade and always given satisfaction. Being well-officered and furnished, she is one of the most attractive packets on the Ohio, and wins the respect of all who test her qualities. Freight is always carefully attended to and delivered at its destination with fidelity, by her. We can only say to travelers and shippers, try the Dunbar and see if our statement is not strictly correct. ......The Lady Pike has laid up at Cincinnati, the Lady Jackson taking her place. ......The John Raine left New Orleans on Wednesday last, the Diana and Chancellor on Thursday, and the Peytona and Fanny Bullitt on Saturday. ......The New Albany Ledger says the hull frame for a new Wabash packet is up and ready for planking at the ship-yard of Mr. Sylvester Lee of that city. ......At the rate the river has been receding, two days more will be sufficient to permit the plugging of the holes in the wharfboat so she can be raised. ......The work on the Charley Bowen is steadily progressing, and we may expect to see jer out soon looking as bright as a new pin. ......The Curlew left yesterday evening for Wabash with a light trip. ......We learn from the Memphis Avalanche that Capt. Archer, of the Mariner, was robbed on her last trip, as follows: A bold robbery was perpetrated on the steamer Mariner, lying at this port, on Wednesday night. Capt. Archer's room in the texas was entered while he was asleep, his clothes removed therefrom, and taken to the hurricane roof where they were rifled. The thief obtained a valuble [sic] gold watch— a family relic—$150 in money, and a sight draft for $400. In the morning the Captain found his clothes at the door of the hall in the texas, where the thief had left them.— Yesterday a portion of the money was exchanged at the Southern Bank, and was identified by Capt. Archer, and the draft was found by a negro boy in front of I. B. Kirkland's Bank. The Captain feels the loss of the watch more than anything else. ......For the following the Memphis Argus is responsible: We are informed by a planter from the vicinity of Friar's Point, Mississippi, who formerly resided and officiated here as clergyman, that a few nights ago eighty men armed themselves and proceeded to the river's edge to watch for the first Cincinnati boat that might pass that point, their determination being to sink every abolition city boat that floated by the banks of the great Southern river. ......There is a perfect understanding at this port between the Captains' and Pilots' Associations and the steamboat agents, and the Captains are required to employ association pilots. Such is not the case at Cincinnati, however; and when boats arrive here with pilots who do not belong to the Association, they are declared "outsiders," and our agents will not work for them. This state of things is frequently embarrassing. There should be a general reciprocity in these matters, and a full understanding as to these technicalities in all parts.—<Louisville Journal>. ......We learn that the James Battle has withdrawn from the New Orleans and Vicksburgh trade, and will go to Mobile soon to run in Alabama river, for which she was expressly built. She is one of the swiftest and most magnificent boats in the Southern trade.—<N. A. Ledger>. THE MAGENTA.—We learn that the new boat building for Capt. Spotts has been named the Magenta, a name known to fame as the greatest battle of modern times. It was the field on which the second Napoleon, with the French and Italian Legions, gained a great victory over the Austrians. The name was suggested by the friends of Capt. Spotts, who had particular reference to Matfenta, the famous racer of Keene Richards, Esq., of this State. The Magenta will be ready to make her first trip about the 1st of January.—<Lou. Cour>. =======
