The sale will take place on the premises, but should the weather be unpleasant, then at Mr. Ilolzhauer's Store, opposite the Block. For the first time these lots are now brought into market. They are unquestionably in the healthiast locality and present tho Quest locations for building of any ia the city. No more eligible and beautifully located property was ever offered for sale in Evansville. These lots have aU been staked oft" and numbered, so that pur. ; chasers can now go, before the sale, and pick out the lot they wish to buy. The title i-i perfectly good. Warranty Deeds will be given. The terms are very liberal, to-wit : onefourth cash, balance in one. two, and three years. decG-4td. J&2 Dull times, poor money, and no much of that. Well, we have one consolation : A little money will purchase a good suit of clothes, and that will give U3 a respectable appearance, whether we hare any more money than will pay for the clothes or not. But to get jour clothes at the lowest rates, you must go to Davidson's, on First street, who is selling Coats, Pants, Vests, and everything in hia line at cost and carriage. Dec 8-1 1. JJoi.tos's Geveiial Atlas. This valuable work is now in course of delivery by Mr. Huntington the Agent. It is a work of great merit the most perfect of the kind ever gotten up, and should be in the hands of every reading man in the community. It is a condensed history of the world, illustrated by maps, i:i tho constructiuu of wtlich every care h is been taken to note the latest divisions of boundaries, and to mark the recent improvi ni'iits. This work contains a vast fund of useful statistical information in regard to t.vc.ry country on the face of the globe. Mr. Huntington may be found at the City Ho!..!, Water street, whore he will be prepared to fill all orders. deo.S-d&w. D. C. LaUce's Panopticon at Marble Hall, commencing Monday night We have never seen this exhibition ourselves, but from what we seo other papers speak of it, no doubt xve shall have a popular and interesting entertainment. From the Nashville Patriot we extract the following : Thk War is IsrtA. To the reader of history and the student of human nature, what, varied associations present themselves in that fingle "word ! Magnificent enter, prises, "'incomparable heroism, uneuaied sagacity, incredible cruelty, horrible superstition, wonderful perseverance, grandeur of conception, multiplied instances of the loftiest efforts, and the most abject degradation of humanity the meelin at once of the extreme ties .of the sublime and tho on-temptible-these and a thousand other subjects' are forced ou the mind while reviewing the wonderful Panopticon of India. India is a marvelous problem, and a phenomenon which puzzles the philosopher while it charms the philanthropist. With it is associated the most luxuriant foliage, tho most beautiful scenery, the most stupendous and massive architecture of past ages. Who has not heard of the Great Moirul ? His empire was once the richest in the world, and millions were subject to him. Hut, alas, the grasping avarice of Great Uritaiu has wrested the scepter from the house of Tamerlane, and the last of the Moguls wander now in exile. The " terrible struggles of his subjects to regain their liberty is vividly illustrated in the" Panopticon. - Tub Isuia.v Tkooi'e anl IIisToural Tableaux. We uttended this exhibition lust night in the boat at the foot of Locust street, and were highly pleased will it, as we think all others ia tUo kiiiiieuce were. The performance; wer e very interesting, instructive, ami gratifying to the taste for the picturesque. They consist of Indian songs and dances and representations of scenes iu American history by, living figures, all in appropriate costumes. These living pictures are well thought of and skillfully executed. We advise all who can to go. There will be exhibitions this afternoon at 2 o'clock and this evening at 7. i uijusiveiy ior tne Journal. Highly Interesting iii Wautngtpu New York, Dec. 7.-Tlie,T mica's Wash-, ington correspondent Lays: The Clerks of the Departments from South Carolina decided to all resign on the 17th.' 4 Mr. Washburne, of Illinois, was refused his pay at the Treasury yesterday, but on threatening to have the draft protested, was paid the whole amount Secretary Cobb is not to be found. Purties holding large claims against tho Government would take par in Government stocks, but are refused. The revenue this week is several hundred thousand dollars less than last week. ; Mr. Stephens, of Georgia, Las written' a letter to a friend, urging calmness and delay in the secession movement, deprecating it, and urging a reconciliation and continuance of the Union. . y Bonham, of South Carolina, decliued to appear on the Committee ou Military Affairs to-day, and will resign his' position on the first of next week so he declared .today. :. Mr. Etheridge, of Tenn9sef, declared that peaceable secession is utterly impossible and out of the question, which substantiates Senator Hale's position. The Southern Senators will Bold a convention some time this iveek, and. Mr. Crittenden will make, he says, a great and last effort to sate the Union,' . - The House special committee seems to sat isfy nearly the whole of the Union men. Speaker Pennington is complimented for it. Senator iverson was severely reproved to-day by Messrs. Crittenden, Douglas, Hunter, and Humphrey Marshall foe his ill advised speech of yesterday. A s The announcement of Southern merchants, that they will not repudiate their debts, ia having a good financial effect here, and acts favorably for them. An intimate friend of Mr. Lincoln, who left him the rast week, states that he was assured that no members of his Cabinet had yet been determined on. All speculations sent out from here are inspired by personal objects. The- report is current that Senator Hunter will resign his position as chairman of the finance committee, owing to' the stale of the treasury. He despairs of accomplishing any thing under the circumstances. ' t Senator Wade will next week make a speech showing the impossibility of peaceable secession. A caucus of Southern Senators and Representatives is being held this turning. This is the first that has been held. Its ob ject is to consider what action ought . to be taken in regard to the committee of thirtythree, and whether any of the Cotton States should meet in this committee. There is a strong repugnance among 1 lie Itcpresentatives from the five Cotton States to a meeting at all. No decision however up to a late hour has been arrived at. The Democratic Senators have not gone into caucus to select their usual committees, and it is doubtful if they can iittmand a majority at present in the Semite. It is said that several members will rvtue to recognize Mr. Douglas as a member of the caucus. The appeal of John Cochrane to-day to Mr. Hawkins of Florida not to decline serving on the committee of 33 produced a deep impression. It was a burst of thrilling eloquence and the applause in the galleries attested the sincerity with which the popular heart cherishes the love of the Union. Charleston-, Dec. 6 The Georgia Senate has rejected the bill calling a Convention of the Southern States. This i3 received as an indication of Georgia to secede separately. The election of delegates to Hie South Carolina Convention was a juiet one. A very full vote whs polled. The result will be known to-morrow. It is generally conceded that Judge McGrath will lead the ticket. Porter Mills, it is also coui i .l.l,. ia elected. . : r. There is a rumor on I ho street to-day that the Federal Government is engaging I tinkers for Fort Moultrie, and drilling theiu as recruits. . . v Senator Yulee of Florida has written a letter from Washington to the legislature of that State, announcing that upon learning at any tinto of the determination of Florida to dissolve connection with the Northern States, lie will promptly and joyously return home to support the banner of the State to which he owes his allegiance. Col. Blackburn, Federal iiiaishiil tbr the northern district t Florida, is closing up his business, preparatory to resigning. The secession foeling in Florida is quite hs 'universal as in South Carolina. - : - - Nkw York, Dec. 7, m. Late advices from the coast of Africa report the csptirre by the I. Washington, Dec. 6th, m. Mr. Dundas, Second .Assistant P. M. General, has been sick for . two months past, arid is still at home in a critical condition. The commercial houses of New York and other cities have already ordered from the P. O. Department, in advance of their distribution among the post offices, over $1,000,000 worth of the new ruled letter envelopes about to be issued, probably on Monday, with one cent stamps attached. This has been done with a view of taking advantage of the new invention, and the general curiosity respecting it, by inclosing their circulars addressed to the trade in these envelop.
' Washington, Dec. 7. The President toi-day explicitly expressed his determination to send no more troops to the Forts near Charleston, and said everything would be done on his part to avoid a collision. Major Alexander has made no request for re-inforcements, and it is represented that the lest of feeling exists between the garrison at Fort Moultrie and the citizens of Charleston. New Orleans, Dec. 7. Mr. Stewart, member of the Texas Legislature from Gonzales, has issued a circular in accordance with the resolutions of the public meetings, held in that place, inviting the members of the Legislature to be in Austin on the 3rd Monday of December, to hold an extra session to call a State Convention. Governor Houston promises to resign if the people demand the convoking of the Legislature. C5 'l 1 o b-3 W H A. LEMCKE & CO., Dealers in Produce, AND Commission Merchants, Hau removed to No. JJ1 Main Street. wnv:t MISCELLANEOUS DR. HAAS, tiaTinit leased the roon:s fortnerlyoccupieil by Dr. Kivett, in Dr. liray's building, i poite the Post Office, for a scries of years, would respectfully solicit tho citizens of Evansville and the surrounding towns and country, o visit bis rooms and see the specimens on exhibition, whether Ihev need the services of a Dentist or not. Since the issuius: of his last rircnl.ir arid advertisement, over a year since, several impiovcncots aud new iiivwiilions have l-een made, of which he lias availed himself, und allows nothing that M il! subserve the interests of his patients, to pass unsecured. His facilities are tetter and estahli-h-nient larger, without doubt, thar. any other in o;ir State, aud equal teauyin Eastern cities. All those who need Dental operations performed, and are ploasoUwith his work, shall Ik, attended to with great pleasure. The following are the styles of work inanufiictured by him: Continuous Gum; Block or Caned Work; Vulcanite Rase; Coralite; Amber; Che n lastic; Gold aud Silver work. v Nothing can excel the beauty and cleanliness of the continuous um work, it is without a seam or crevice. Cheeks that are sunken can be restored to nearly thsir original contour by this style of work, aud also hv the us of the Vulcanite, Coralite, and Amber Base. The latter styles, for lightness and adaptation to difficult mouths, excel auycels any thin? we have ever seen. He has several annstlietics for alleviating pain when extracting teeth. They are perfectly harmless. The most delicate can have them applied. He does not advertise anything? be cannot do, nor exhibit anything not made by himself. Parents should consult the health and beauty of their children by having the Dentist direct thei' second dentition, thereby producing symmetry and health tt those invaluable organs. Irregularity of children's teeth corrected successfully. Those having decayed teeth, should either have thein extracted or tilled at once (the latter if possible). Thw health of the parties and the remaining teeth demand this. mar I tak pleasure in introducing Dr. Haas, my successor to the old rooms iu Bray's building, hopiujr lie will And them both pleasant and prolii . able From my intercourse with the Doctor, I am pleased to lind him one id tilt prr.srroesin? ; possessing taste and hi;;h professional ability and standi ue.
