He says, in relation to the urrent idea of disunion : With respect to the policy to be pursued y the incoming administration, as indicatd by its platform, it is needless to say that re are opposed. Hamlin in his speech before the Pbilalelphiii Board of Trade : He said he had met most of the Governors i'i the States through which he had nassrit, aud bad enjoyed interviews with a rer large number of prominent men in the country, in particular the Huu. The Wisconsin law is better than that of Illinois, for the reason that the Wisconsin banks are bound to redeem their issues under a penalty. It is humiliating, but the truth may as well be told, that Wisconsin currency in our own city has borne a premium for the past week over that of Illinois of 1 to 3 per cent. Exchange in Milwaukee for Wisconsin currency has been cheaper by about the same figures. This is a condition of things which we again call uon our Legislature to remedy.- Chicago Prtss and Timet. nights, that the mercury stood all . the way -j from zero to six degrees above, and ice form- j cd on White River six inches thick ! . That w ill do pretty well for fall weather on and !' ubout the 40th parallel of latitude. But nil that i gone by, aud we are.baviug now clear and balmy days, with the softest and. brightest of nights. These sudden changes bother our Yankee friends vshen they happen to meet them among us. The Supreme Coutt has set every day this week. Numerous decisions have been promulgated ou cases before them, but aoue yet of nny general public iitterestr-uone iu which your city, tor instance, has any concern, though snch are looked lor by-aud-by. The Circuit Court of tha U. S. is still in session also in the Stuate chamber. They were obliged to take possession of it immediately clter extensive repairs and re-painting. Judge Huntington, whose , health U veiy frail at best, is not able to stand the new paint, and for the last day or two has deputed Judge Otto to fill his place. The. bar of the State is largely represented here, and the Pocket portion ol it ubly so, by Judges Law and Baker, not to mention numerous lesser lights. Tho law is a great institution. Happy is he who has least to do with it. Robert Dale Owen Im.i an admirable letter in the Journal of to-day on the subject ot South Carolina and her secession.. Berry Sulgrovc does not wholly agree with it, and states his objections with his usual point and clearness. I don't think he sustains them, or that Owen's positions and views can be controverted. I attempt no synopsis of the letter, presuming you will, of course, give it to your readers entire. You may not agree with it fully, but it is still interesting to know the opinions and views of such a man on so grave a question of Suite pelicy. It is inteiesting to notice the evidence the letter contains, that the writer's reverence for the Scriptures has greatly increased with his years. lie certainly caunot now be the bold deist that he once was. if common fame did him no injustice. Judge Perkins, by appointment, delivered a eulogy at 2 p. m., this day, in the Senate chamber, to a crowded auditory, on the life and character of the late Governor Wi'.lard. Like all the Judge's performances, it dwelt in facts and not fancy, and was therefore the more iuteresting and suitable. The speaker s elocution was none ot the best, and quite failed to do justice to himself or his ell'ort, on which account I am glad that the publication of the eulogy was provided for. Separate and apart from Willard glaring faults of character, no one can deny that he has furnished the world a brilliant example of whai bnkrgt can accomplish. It is a very remarkable fact, that in a State like ours, abounding so largely iu political aspirants of much riper years, aud many of them superior both in talents and education to the deceased, he should have risen to the highest office in the gift of his fcilaw-citi-zens at the early age of tHirty-scven. Honor to his virtues, aud charily for bis faults! - Our post-master, John M. Talbutt, Esq , met with an accident yesterday which has deprived him of his left arm, and may result ia his death. He is regular Nimrod among birds and rabbits, and went yesterday ut'ternoon two or three miles into the country, with his son, a lad of about fifteen, to shoot quails. Having: occasion - to get over a rail-fence, he leaned his gun agaiust it, got over, and drew his guu through, taking hold of it with his. left hand. InJ that process one barrel exploded, lodging the charge in the left arm near the shoulder, shattering the bom s of the arm to splinieis. Fie was gotten home by his son inn terribly exhausted condition, and suffered intensely through the night. The arm was amputated this afternoon. Mr. Tallinn's slender constitution, and the great loss of blood h suffered, canst! much unea.-inc.ss miumg his friends as to the tiual result. It is a Utile remarkable that soniflhini;' over a ear a:;o, a clerk in the Post oflice, under Mr. Talbutt, nario'.vly escaped the loss of hisitoht arm, from the accidental discharge) of his gun while in a wagon on bis way out to sunnshooting grounds; and about two months since, Mr. T.'s son, the lad who was with him yesterday, was severely wounded iu the foot, while bird-huutiug, by the tu-ci-iloutal discharge of a companion's gnu. There is a lesson in these casualties, the insult AS they nre of carelessness iu the ue of gun?, not lo mention the scores of similar ones that occur every year, which is too obvious to need reciting. Our public schools opened on the 2iU!i inst. Of them - 1 may speak hereafter. Thanksgiving is the next subject of practical importance before us. The tutkies omitted to make a note ot it until too late. Yours, Arc, Schick. NEW ADVERTISEMENTS.
