ICRS DAT MOBMNG NOVUM BKB 22 : -i I What tlic Knit Is About, , It has been surmised, and with some ap- . uranceof probability, that the reason why ie Fiie-eaters are just now kicking up j "teh. a fuss, is in orderto frighten the Elect;s chosen by the Republicans from voting
r Lincoln and Hamlin. It is of course f nowu to our readers, that Lincoln is not et elected Presideut. It is true, he is "just
t good as" President, as the phrase goes, ecause the I'll electors (and possibly more ;om Oregon and California) chosen by the iepublicans, and instructed by them to ote in the electoral college for Lincoln and (amlin, will, as certainly as the day comes .round on which to cast their votes, and as ertainly as they live, act according to the nstructions of their parly. Hut il by any neans they could be frightened or corruptd and thereby be induced to vole for somebody else, there is no legal obligation to prevent them from so dishonoring themVelves. All the obligation that rests upon ihem is a moral one, which of course is amply sufficient to make them vote fur the Republican candidates, a3 they would by violating their implied pledge, incur the bitter detestation of the world as long as tbey lived, and their memories would become infamous after their death. The Disonionfets wboee sense of moral integrity cannot be very strong, else they would not be doing what they are may think that they can frighten these Eleclors b from their duty, or they may think that their blustering will excite such a dread of secession amongst the Northern people that they will be driven to the humiliation o' holding State conventions or mass meetings there to instruct the Republican Electors to vote otherwise than as they were instructed on the 6th instant at the polls. Men who
will act the fool a3 the Secessionists are doing, may possibly be capable of the absurdity of supposing the Northern people so abandoned as to act as indicated. If this be their motive in all the fuss they are kicking up, they are counting without their host. The Republican party nre engaged in no child's play. They commenced and carried on the campaign with the intention of succeeding if possible ; they went to the polls with the determined purpose to - elect the men of their choice ; they got a jf majority of the Electoral College ; and as sure s fate, Abraham Lincoln and Baonibal Hamlin, if living, will be chosen by the Electors, when they meet next month in ih.ir respective Stales, as President and Vice President of the Doited States. And when so chosen, and declared accordingly . . i "ill !
u Ongre.-S nck( Winter, iney win no inaugurated the 4.h of March. All the hubabaloo that can be raised by Southern traitors and Northern abettors cannot prevent this consummation. Bv inbssMattkbb in Lol'isvilli;. The following we clip from the Commercial column ! the Journal of the 20tii: Tin: tuoucy inarket has been very light dnrittg the week, and the banks have been doiijo; nothing outside ol their regular business i'or customers, which baSMtCM has been greatly restricted. At the close of the week the demand for money was greater, and large auiounls of first-class paper, even, did not pavs the ordeal of the discount table. Tin: political movements at the far South have had their etleot upon trade, even in this conservative latitude, our merchants having lost confidence in some degree in Ibe Stability Sr their correspondents in that region. The recent acts of the Mouth Carolina Legislature, in virtually legalizing a sus- ).. ti:-ioii ol specie paymenta on the part of the banks of the State, have created distrust in the mindi of bankers and business men, and the notes of South Carolina banks, with those of Alabama and Georgia which latti r Stater reem to second the movement in South Carolina), have Suffered in business circles. Some of our brokers will not buy them at all, arbile.tboae a ho do receive them discount them at 10 to I f per cent. The rate of discount upon Illinois and Wisconsin notes is 4(ii'', 10 per cent, and Missouri 2(if'J per cent. Exchange is in ool supply and demand, nud is selling at A per cent premium both on New York and New Orleans. There ij no demand for land warrants, and very few are selling. Yo a note as follows :

A singular card appears in the Rockport (III.) Advertiser. Rev. A. S. Finch warns the clergy against a woman, who. small in stature and WemTtBg 8pectades, met i him at a campmeetinp- in Rockport and ca- ' joled him into matrimony. The latter she left in a destitute condition, with three children to provide for. TKBBIBU Traokdy. The Fort Wavne (lad.) Times says that a most terrible and fatal accident, with consequence still more terrible, occurred in Adams eonnty the other day. The story is at once the briefest and most awful we hurc read in many a year. A woman about to churn butler, threw some boiling water in the churn, into which one of the children a girl had, unnoticed by the mother, placed an infant, and it was instantly scalded to death. In her frenzy the mother seized a chair and inflicted a death blow upon the little girt After realizing what she had done the horrilied mother threw herself into the well and wn3 drowned. MxWBS.
