Items from I In Interior. Having just returned from n, jaunt into ie interior, we jot down such items of injrest as occur to us : Mr. A. P. Woodall, for several yours erk in the Adams Express Office at In.anapolis, baa received the apointiuent of .gent of said Express at Vincennes. This v I an excellent appointment, and cine that ill give general satisfaction. Mr. Woodall i a perfect gentleman in every respect, ami an not fail to make an efficient and popular .gent of the gooil old Kspre?? Company 'ith which he is connecieil. Messrs. Jerome C. Burnett and William '. Lupton of Terre Haute bare been chosen y Albert Lange, Ls., a, his jeprtiea for he Auditor of State's office. Mr. Lupton ) the present popular Agent for tin; Adauis
:tpres3 at Terre Haute. He will relinquish iir,' lis present po "Sanuary-. Mr. ioefn after th 1st ol hiiu a e will tiud iu faithful assistant, and th xiodaling official. ) The commission of public an accomcommission ol Attorney eneral VfcDonald will expire, we were informed, tbout the middle of December, nt which time our fellow citizen, James (. .TonesEsq., will enter upon the duties of t li fit PO Bition. The annual communication of the Grand Encampment, I. O. O. F., will commence on Monday afternoon, Nov. Huh, and that of the Grand Lodge, same order, the 20th in the forenoon, at Indianapolis. Officers will be elected at these communications. The impression was out that these lodies were to meet lasV week, and accordingly a number of Odd Fellows went to Indianapolis to attend ; but (otand w hen they reached there that their journey was in rain. There was much discussion aud difl'erence of opinion amongst the Republicans of In dianapolis, as lo the expediency of a general demonstration at that city in honor of the recent victories. For several reasons many were opposed to the movement, but it was finally decided to have a jubilee at Indianapolis on Thursday, 'J2d inst. An invitation is eiteiulcd to the Republicans ot Indiana and other States in participate, and no doubt the atl'air will bo a glorious one, as are all such thut are conducted ly the indefatigabU: aud liberal Republicans of the Capital. The death by suicide of James K. Suit, Eaip, of l ianUlort, Clinton county, created much astonishment and regret. He was a very talented man, and a few year;; ago had as bright prciepeeia for the future as any man in Indiana habit of sci -: blighted hi ; but alas ! the unfortunate in taking strong diiuk, il and led, it is supposed, to his melauch. -I v death. Tin-State Librarian, Mr. J. R. Bryant, has made some great uupioveiueuts iu the Library. He has thrown additional couimitie moiim into the suite composing be Libn.i , ;' that il now comprises ail the tirsl lloor on the wedt side of the State Hon.-.- A cabinet of geological and mineraiogieal specimen?, and soils of Indiana has been added, which presents a creditable display Additions have also been made to the 6tock of book, and the law librarj particularly has been much increased. Thlibrarian is also having extensive repairs made to the Capitol. The ceilings of the Senate Chamber and Representative:, Hall are to be newly colored, the walls papered, the pillars marbled, the places, from which plastering has fallen, inside and outside the building, repaired, and the old house generally put in as neat trim as possible for the use of our law makers next winter. A new roof has recently been put on. The thorough cverhau'ing the hnildino is getting will make it last for ni my yeai i longer. There will be a great many applicants for olBce next winter before the Legislature. A number of olSces are to be filled. We have ulready beard of six or more Candida tee for State Agent, three for State Librarian, four or fivt! tor U. Printer ( 1 n 0 by cont ract ). There will elllttc he 11 r, aiul t WO for intine ia not k Stiittr t out hi il Cl IWvl Trustee to elect. who will probably be taken from some ounty tin the southern portion of the ( 'until. Also trustees for the benevolent institutions, directors for the two ienitentiaries, and commissioners and president uf the Sinking Fund, besides tbe officials necessary to eeanjusiee th Ijatalatiire. Thus it will lie seen that a unrulier of nice crumbs await sundry locky Republicans, at onr State capital as well as our National capital. Southern liravadn. fVvssj th? Cthunbtts ('.'a.) lYser, .Vi.r. 7. The contest in the South has been unparalleled iu tbe moderation w ith w hich it has been conducted. All parties bete have becu united in their opposition to this sectional, unconstitutional organization. They have ditfered as to the means by which itdefeat was to be accomplished, but the sihic aid was in the hearts and wills of mXL llencetorward these minor differences should cease. With bis vote we trust that every Southern man has deposited in the ballotbox whatever of bitterness against his brother Southron the "foul fiend" of purty may lave conjured. It is not unnatural that pride of ..pinion, ambition for place, an intemperate zeal lor the success of this or that favotite should, iu tbe beat of tbe Htrife, have agitated the waters ; but, henceforth, the strong, deep current of Southern feeling should move on without u ripple to mar ita polished surface. We fear that the vote of yesterday has proclaimed our enemies the victors. It' so, what will prevent us from uniting as brothers in a common seutiineut of resistance, and upon comtuou means of defense. Let every man exorcise the spirit of party from his breast, and give one hour s thought to his duty and his honor. We do not fear the result. From the Moijomfi-y (!'" ddsssfMer, Woe. 8. The chapter is finished; the supremacy of tbe Constitution is at an end. And now, men of the South ' you have done what vou could to prevent this disaster Bravtiy bare you fought for the Constitution, and
the Union under the Constitution. You have poured out your blood like, water to protect the Northern shipping and northern commerce in 1312, and Maatachusetts replied by enncting a bill to iaipriuoa you if you dared claim your fugitive property on her soil. You sent your noblest sons to find a Moody grave on the plauuol' Mexico that the North might gain the Califoruian empire, ami the North reipont! by sending: John Brown's liar.Ie to ravish your wives and daughters on your own soil, to massacre the brothers of those who fell in
I ' ! 1 Mexico. Yon have contributed tvbnnally millions ot revenue to build up the cities and enrich the merchants Ix-voud the liue, and New-York answer yon by electing a Helperite and a free negro to rule over you. Your destiny is now in your own haniis. You were powerless to save the election ; yoa Could not pre ent the Hoveruroeul from passing into the hands of those whose avow- ; ed purpose is your destruction. Rut you can save your country. The richest laud that the sun ever shone on a yours; the re- : sourcei of the South can command the ' treasures of the European world. You are ! the greatest power ott earth, and can dictate to Christendom as a seoarate Confeder-Hi-v vou run Him sink 1. 1 me conuiLiou ui . . i a -. r c i n",i ll3 members of this 1'nion. The nun if Xvrlh are iu rtrnet on a srnt mtnt. Shall you be less determined on a question that involves your very existence? Organize ! We can now enforce a peaceable secession. The time may tome, w ill come, must come, if you delay, when you can gain your freedom, if at all, only as the colonies gained it when they seiBtraied only its our forefathers gained it when they fought the battle of Disunion, through toil and bloodshed, through carnage and desolation. ( ol. K D. Kukri-. The New York Timea's Han Francisco correspondent, after describing the enthusiasm with which the election of Col. Raker as Senator from Oregon was received, adds: I I button-holed a half score of men who j were calm enough when asked not to auj swer three cheers, to tell why they were so 1 delighted with Baker's selection, and here ' are specimens of their answers : Because Ned Baker is the most social, reniaL trood natured, shrewd, brave, popu lar man nlive, and he makes about the best aturccb, lull of fun, and pith, and hits. lfecause the Colonel is one of the sound est Republicans in the Union. He was born in EngllUld, and has to hold himself to prevent from becoming au Abolitionist. Rut he's such a glorious fellow, he'll snake the atfections right out of a South Carolinian. Recause, at last, the Racific coast has got a man in the Senate who won't persist on representing Mississippi ; and the Pacific Railroad and allimprovemeuts a dear California heart, nnd eloquent advocate. gtay A Sierre Leone paper states that a white woman, who accompanied her husband, a misionary, up the Cavalla river last May, excited the greatest curiosity and admiration among the sable dwellers of that benighted region, where a white woman had never before been seen. All wanted to touch her, aud orent .surprise was expressed npou feeling l-.er hair. The King of the Kyi netllO tribe culled her "very tine," and cotnplimeuted her hnsbaiad "reatly for h'S taste in selecting her. Aud when she told him he miht see other white women who would sin puss her, he : aid lhat would either never be, or else a very leaf; time. Owing to her presence, the attendance on preaching was extraordinary huge. During her visit at the mission station, hundreds went to see her, who said they could feel satisfied to die, t now unit tney na t Been swell it womieriui being ie? a white woman.
