A m i.T ami HlQHTAV RoBBKBT. On Wednesday nijht of last week, Mr. James M. MorrisoD, one of the pTOprietora of tlie Ledger, while on his way from the RBoe In his residence, was aatilted bj two men, and robbed of about eighty dollars in money and pome valuable papers. Mr. Morri.-on resides at the corner of Market and I'pper Twelfth streets, and the assault was made a little after 10 o'clock, in the market space, about a square west. One of the villains struck him with a slun shot, asking a deep and gbastly wound in his forehead, and also one on the bridge of the nose. J?cing knocked senseless, and dripping with blood, the scoundrels had an easy task of securing the desired booty. Mr. M. is a small man, and .defended himself as well as he could with ftis umbrella, the only weapon ho had, but of course against such odds could effect but little. On Thursday morning the slung shot, a club, and a half dollar were found at the place where the assault took place. Mr. Morrison lias been confined to his room ever since the murderous assault and has suffered much from his wounds, the extent of which has not even yet been fully ascertained. The villains who made the liold and daring assault have not yet been detected or any clue to them obtained. In the absence of a proper police force, it becomes our cili.ens who do not relish the idea of having their brains beaten out by highway robbers to go prepared for such villains. A'. A. J l;rr. Pkrsonai-. Our clever friend Jos. Partridge, who hu3 for some time acted as agent for the Adams Express Company iu this city, anil in which position he has gained the coufidence and esteem of our entire community, lias been transferred to the office at Cairo. Uc carries with him the earnest well-wishes ot his host of friends iu this city. Yin. ISun.

We believe the electoral vote ot New Jersey, so much crowed over bv the Fusionists, will be cast, 4 for Lincoln,

At least, we judge from the complexion of the imperfect returns before us, that only those three of the fusion electors who were also on the straight Douglas ticket, are elected, with the four highest Republicans, whichever they may be. The straight Douglas vote may not be large enough to secure this result, but we think it is. Cin. (,'o:., 13th. B. P.
