Jimmy never forgets the printers. Ha?Since our article of the other day in relation to a new invention or discovery we have luarned further particulars concerning its nature and iu progress here. An arrangement has beeu made with several gentlemen of means for its immediate introduction into practical use; andan engine of sufficient size to f ully exhibit its merits, is now in process of construction by one of our most ingenious mechanics. The uature of the invention is briefly this. It consists iu the combination of three elements, viz: water, air and heat, in such a manner as will permit the use of the expansive power of a great amount of atmospheric air, in the smallest possible space and with the use of an almost nominal degree of heat, and as will also allow the power of the engine to be increased or diminished by simply increasing or diminishing the amount of anyone of the three elements used. The power of the engine does not depend upon its size but upon its strength i for the raasou that the power is in proportion to the (uaiitity of the above elements, that is brought into requisition, either iu combination or simply. In connection with this engine, the in. ventor, Mr. McAtee, proposes using one of two other inventions or discoveries of his, by means of which he is of opinion that sufficient heatcan be generated, without the use o' any fuel whatever, to run an engine uf any required power. Should bis success equal j

Thk weather, yesterday, was miser able in the extreme. It was barely possible for a Republican jubilant as be bad reason tolas over the result of the election last Tuesday. -to preserve his good nature. For the democrats-whose tempers have not been greatly sweetened by the results that the wires are continually announcing it was absolutely awful. It rained and it snowed And -as Tony Weller would express it no. verce. The mud was deep and trouble some. Such another day we do not wish i soon to see. I'kksokal. Mr. Bayless W. Hanna, long a prominent lawyer of Terra Haute, has removed to our city. We congratulate the bar of our city on this accession to their numbers. I'rirate dispatches received at Richmond, Va., state that when the news of Lincoln's election reached Charleston, U.S. Judge McUrath, District Attorney Connor. ud the Collector at Charleston all resignedPoor fools ! They had only to hold on for a few months, when they would have been quietly removed. The Governor of Pennsylvania has issued a proclamation declaring Win. Lehman duly elected to Cougress from the 1st district. Byerly, who forged the returns has been sentenced to imprisonment in the penitentiary. The Republicans of Terre Haute had set apart last evening for a grand jubilee. .1 v. 1 a unKAn- ,1. waallid. ilunin. ,Te appreuouu, uuscm, v"- ....".- t ! ened their enthusiaim not a little. It was 'a dismal time tor Wide Awakes to tramp through the mud. The Cincinnati Enquirer claims t iat it has reliable authority for saying that the j Philadelphia Press is owned and conducted j by several Republican gentlemen in Philadelpbia, ud that Mr. Forney is paid so much a week for editing if, and giving the concern the benefit of his name. It says Forney has been for Lincoln all through Mississjipei. This Slate has undoubtedly gone for Breckinridge.

Lincoln's plurality 185. BCJ3LScattcring returns from Tennessee, which we glean from the St. I .sun is Republican, indicate that the State lias gone tor Bell. Nothing definite, however, has been received to pronounce the result with any certainty. Kknti'( kv. Tlie returns, as published in the Louisville papers, do not afford any very satisfactory indication as to how the State is gone. The gains for Bell iu the counties heard from if seems to its render it quite probable that Bell has carried the State. The vote of Cincinnati exceeded that of St. Louis, at the late election, 4.CG0. This is equivalent to a population of 30.000. The latter city has been claiming a larger population than Cincinnati. Gallatin County, Illinois. We learn by a letter from Shawneefown that tlie voteiof this -ounty stands: Douglas lOJo : Lincoln 221. For Governor, Yates received 230 votes, aud Allen 1023. Douglas's majority over Lincolu 70!. This is a large gpin, over the vote of 185. lor the Bepuhlicans. We learn from the Indianapolis papers that Madison county gives Lincoln 100 ma jority. This is a heavy gain for the Repub licans. Clay county (official) gives Douglas 1072, Lincoln 681 ; Bell 30 ; Breckinridge 2. In 1 850 this count v cave Buchanan 7n:i ma jority. The Chicago Democrat of Thursday contains reports in full and in part from 56 counties showing a Republican gain of 12,14.'? over the vote of the State in 1858, when the Republicans carried it by 4,000. The Democrat thinks there can scarcely be any doubt but that the State has gone for Lincoln by from 5,000 to 10,000 majority. The Congressmen will remain as ut preseut. Tho complexion of the Legislature is not definitely settled, l.ut it is thought the Republicans have a majority on joint ballot. I mii ana. Tlie Indianapolis Journal contains returns from .".: counties about onethird ol the State which foot up Lincoln s majority 17,555. The Republicans at the capital ate looking for large democratic ma joritics iu tics part o( the State, but in thi3 they will be agreeably disappointed. Our gains are as large as in any portion of the State. Indiana will prove good for 30,000 majority for Old Abe. The New Lngland States will have to look to their laurels. Kxox Cot ntv. The official vote of (his county, as published in the Viocennes Sum gives Douglas 1GG0; Lincoln 1570; Breckinridge 42 ; Bell 3t ; Douglas hasapluiality of 'JO votes. This is a Democratic loss wheu compared wiih the vote for (Joveinor in l tclolter. I ncomsistkniv. Tbe New Albany Ledger, in one paragraph asserts that every Re publican elect ioneerer oi: Tuesday was supplied with Breckinridge tickets, and that there seemed to be a very cordial sympathy between the twopatlic.i. The same paper, iu giving (he vote of Floyd county , says the vote of Doiig1i!!, Breckinridge, and Bell should be added together, lor those who voted for there candidates, however much they might differ in other things, were equally agreed as to the destructive and dangerous character of Black Republicanism. This kind of inconsistency is not unusual with the Ledger. BfcayThis rery bad weather puis people iu mind that winlei is at hand and that they will have to purchase their winter stock of goods and especially of Shoes. Hughes has one of the best slocks of shoes iW the city w hich he will sell very low for cash. Every pair of Shoes is warrented lo give satisfaction, (live him a call all you who want good shoes and fair dealing. He is also selling bis dry goods ot all kinds at very low prices. ReriiMr. Douglas, who boasted, in his debates with Lincoln, that he could proclaim his doctrine of Popular Sovereignty in all parts of the country without interruption, went South, just before the election, lo test the correctness of bis assertions. At Montgomery, Alabama .13 we learn from the Southern Conledcracy published at Atlanta-Mr. Douglas was saluted with a shower of rotten eggs, intermingled with yells and hisses. Mr. Douglas has fonnd out by this time, that he is sectional. He is not permitted to proclaim the same doctrine in nil parts of tho country. finaSf The Washington correspondent ot the Cincinnati Gazette telegraphs the following items to that paper : The city has been full of alarming rumors to day. ft was stated that ail the banks in South Carolina had suspended specie payment, and that the Legislature had resolved on secession and would be joined lastanter by Georgia and Alabama. Per contra, I hear to-night that only the State Bank of Charleston had suspended, and that the Legislature had adjourned without action until November 25. The Constitution hauls in sail a little. Yesterday it published a violent disu m .-.rticle. 'This offended the autocrat of the White Hot ae, and to-day the Constitution is obliged to .-ay that O. P.
