District Isaac Jeukinson, of Allen. District David O. Daily, of Huntington. k. Gouons Eloquence. John B. (Jough, world renowned Temperance Lecturer, 5W holding forth in New York. The last iber of Harper s Weekly speaks of him I : 'he effect produced by the famous teniince orator upon his audience is a most king illustration of a broad impression '.he purely dramatic style of oratory. It another tribute to the influence and po-.v-oi' the drama. Mr. Googh is not a iker he is an actor. His pictures of misery of drunkenness, in its many asis, are so vivid and thrilling that the (1 over the auilicue,) is that of the most jtional actor. The effect is immediate i immense, but it is nieiely temporary, u .-o it has no intellectual root. A'hen Sheridian had finished his speech the Warren Hastings trial, and when Dtalembert sat down in the last days of last Legislative Assembly of Loui3 ilippe, after an attack upon the gorernnt, it was moved that the Houses adjourn, .t they might not legislate or judge under sway of strong passion. Mr. (lough'? cts are akin to these. He sweeps all ore him, except the passionless reason, at may concede the justice of his cause, . it does so before he begins. It is not ..cted by his funny or tragical anecdotes. Somebody told Fox of an eloquent ech he had heard tiie night before ; "and will tell you what he said.' "Stop, p 1 " exclaimed Fox ; ' if you can tell me tat he said, il was not an eloquent speech. " asured by Fox's standard, Mr. (lough's queuce is supreme. For if it were rerted and rend, the wonder of those who tened and yielded to its charm would be tusing. . i The Ft si.iv HormCHl in i Ihio. -1 he j ncinnati Titnea (American) thuscouiinenu ' the fusion dodge o!' the Enquirer : This fusion dodge ; t sharp dtidge of tie anus of Kteplieti A. Douglus. It is a rewd rui'tisurc to suve Ibe sinking foittsnea the Illinois Senator, and like ererytliiao; retofore connected with the Douglas ovement, Lreathes death and destroctioa all who pnrtitiiiate in it. ' The end juries tbe means," was the rrv that kept life the Douglas party at Baltimore; and all e usagea of the once "grand old party ' ?re trampled in the dust, the minority reed into rebellion, the party distracted d wofully divided, that Mr. Douglas ight be placed before the iople as a I'resential candidate. Once before the people, outraed the people, he outraged the digty of the position by taking the stump in s own behalf, confident that such a course ould add to the streugth of hli cause. Hut .e reverse has been the result. It has beme mote evident, dav after dav, thai ouglas's great popularity in the North is i ore moonshine than real ; and that if the ouglas movement is left to stand on its wn merits, it is prubahle that this roving tndidate lur the Presidency will not have ne electoral vote to back his immense pre:nsions. Hence the fusion movement, by ihich it is sought to make the supporters f Bell and Kveretl the backers of Stephen 1. Douglas. The Death ok K-Puesiiv:nt MoitA or osta Kica. The New York Times's corespondent, writing trom Panama on the th inst., says : Mora bore his fate manfully. The lile of len drawn up for his execution stood with . jeir muskets not ten feet from him, and etthe five balls in his body did not kill in. "Give me another shot, geutlemen." e said, " and finish me." Ile refused to i e blindfolded, but stood calmly facing his ' xcutioners. So ir as I can learn, not a movement was inde in his favor except at Punta Arenas. Thk Solth Comini; to tiikiu Skxsks. he following from the columns of the N. . Commercial Bulletin, one of the leading, nd most influential papers in the Sout'j, hows that our brethren there have cotisidred the matter of secession in all its bearigs, and have arrived at the jnst and sage onclusion that secession and disunionism ill not heal the malady of the lire-eaters. Ve append the article alluded to, which peaks for itself. The H. Ot Commercial ulletin declares ihat a breaking tip of the 'niop " would not ouly cause the ships to ot at the levee, and bankrupcy and ruiu illow in the train of disasters, but the real state of New Orleans would not be wotth weoty-five cents on the dollar to what it is ow ; cotton would go down to such a ligre that it -would not pay to cultivate it, ud the pall ot general stagnation, the wings I dreary desolation, would rest upon the tnd torn by internal dissensions, und renhed in civil and fraternal blood. Hex. o is but a faint picture of what onr condion would be on a gigantic scale. Politico-CoHimercial Crisis." in which it predicts Jire calamities to follow the cleCtion of Lincoln, upon whom and the " black republicans the present disaster is charged. The Emperor of China is represented to be in a state of drunken, helpless imbecility. The chief censor, an officer whose duty it is to rebuke the faults of the highest Chinese officials, protested some months ago against the conduct of the Emperor, against his drunkenness and dissipation, his attachment to actors and love of low society. This reproof of his majesty was published in the Pekin Gazette, and circulated throughout the length and breadth of the empire. A wagon loaded with a Douglas pole broke down in the middle of the road near Michigan City, Indiana, one day last week. Night came on, and the Woodpeckers concluded to postpoue the !ole raising until the next day. During the night a bait dozen Lincoln boys might have been seen in that locality, and when the red cap-i returned in j the rnoroiug, they found the pole split into j rails and the wagou fenced in.
