Anderson, Paducah; Grey Eagle, Louisville; Gen. White, Henderson. ——— ......The river continues to decline slowly. The weather yesterday was clear and quite warm. PITTSBURGH, Oct. 24th, M.—River four feet six inches by the pier mark and rising slowly—weather cloudy. ......The regular mail packet for Paducah, Gen. Anderson, leaves at 12 o'clock to-day. Her accommodations arc unsurpassed. ......The calliopean Grey Eagle is the regular mail and passenger packet for Louisville this evening. Boat and officers are universal favorites. ......The favorite Green river D/ B. Campbell leaves for Bowling Green and intermediate points this evening. She is the regular mail and passenger packet. ......The Gen'l White goes as usual to Henderson. ......Mr. A. M. Collett, of the Mansion House, this city, has purchased the Green river boat W. V. Gillum, for $3000, with two years time. We believe Mr. Collctt designs running her on the Wabash. ......Among the arrivals and departures yesterday were the Louisville and New Orleans boats Woodford, going up, and the Peytona, down. The latter had all the freight she can get out with, and was full to overflowing with passengers. ......The Fred Tron is reported sunk at Island 10, in the Mississippi, about 65 miles below Cairo. She was on her way up from Memphis, laden with cotton for Cincinnati, a part of which will be damaged. The boat was worth about $10,000, owned by Capt. W. W. Fenton and others, and is partially insured. She will probably be raised. ......Mr. Sylvester Lee, of this city, has been awarded the contract for building a hull for the engines and cabin of the sunken Kate Sarchet, which "departed this life" last winter in the turbid waters of the Wabash. It is to be 150 feet long, 29 feet beam, with five feet hold. An Evansville company are to have the work done, which is to be superintended by James Norman of this city.— The boat is intended for the Evansville and Wabash river trade, and is to be completed by the first of January. With this contract there have been just twelve awarded to out mechanics this season.—N. A. Ledger. ====== Receipts by Railroad. OCTOBER 24th, 1860. 75 bdli hroiui eora, .1. Ml KA PER, Agent. U. S. Senator. There will undoubtedly be a multiplicity of Republican candidates for the U. S. Senate to fill the place of Mr. Fitch, at the next session of the General Assembly. AmuDg the names we have heard or seen mentioned in this connection are the following: L. . DeBruler of the First District, John .'S. Davis and John M. Wilson of tlie Second; W. McKee Dunn of the Third; V. A. Hacklenian of the Fourth; George IV. Julian. Oliver I'. Morton, David Kilgore, and John S. Newman of the Fifth ; Caleb B. Smith and John D. No matter how many candidates are talked ot, the great Republican mind of the State will, between now and January, settle down up. on some individual of the best fitness and most claims for the office, aud he will be the man, despite the management of Democratic editors aud politicians. It will be found that the Republican party is able to make its own arrangements without outside heip. Wiok Awake Mt sic. The way the Wide Awakes made music in their mammoth performance in New York the other night, is thus described by a paper of that city : " Uncle Abe's Choir " attracted considerable attention. Mr. James Wadsworth, of Genessee, N V., has bet 20,000 with Dean Rich Blond, that New York will give 40,000 majority for Lincoln in November. The bet is a heavy one, but both men are abundantI y able to pay it. Tiiekk are sad account from the wine districts of France. It is no longer possible to cherish any illusion about the vintage. In some districts the grapes arc not worth gathering Lou. lour. Tub celebrated " Western Reserve " in Ohio, composed of twelve counties, gave the Republican ticket, at the recent election, iu that State, 21,467 majority! That was a shrewd suggestion of one of the unterritied who said: "The Demo cracy are a powerful nation, but I don't believe they can elect two Presidents in one year." One thousand men are employed in the United States in the manufacture of sewmachine needles, and the profits on them amounts to nearly 300,000 a year.
