M i ' t i 111 Scott ninl Centre Townslit ps. tuite a number ot the residents of Scott Township assembled at the school house, near ingle's station, on Tuesday, to listen to Mlitical addretSH from Benjamin Harrison of Indianapolis and Col. Allen of Vincenncs. 'lji'e audience was composed of the sturdy veumanry of the country, eager to hear nu exposition of the doctrines of the Republican party, as published by its friends in order that they might form correct conclusions and vote intelligently at the coming elections. Co!. Allen was introduced by Ja9. G. Jones of t li i city and spoke at some length. He reviewed the history of the varions political parties how claiming the suffrages of the people: demonstrated what the opinions of tbe fathers were in reference to tbe question of slavery expansioti and restriction, completely refuted the silly charges made against the Republicans of being abolitionists or favoring negro equality, and proved to the evideut satisfaction of his hearers that his party was the only party that ad vocated measures tending to elevate and j enuobie htbof, and lienefit the free white la- j boring masses of the Union. i After Col. Allen was through, Cer.jamiu Harrison was introduced and made an eloquent and teiliug speech. The greater portion of his time was devoted to showing up the manner in which our State uffairs have been managed by the Democratic office holders. He dissected the Swamp Lntlll Bpecaliitiooa and flowed who tiocketed tb P , - , , - . r,Uoftii.,, ,lHn,ou,aw,ndloby which the Slate was refcbed of thousands of dollurs, thai went to eurieh a. horde ot leeches lUut have been fastened upon the Stilt iu the name of Democracy. Mr. Harrison's telling

bits were greeted with frequent bursts of applause. After Mr. IIarrl3on concluded his address, August Lemcke was introduced and made a few remarks, announcing himself S3 a candidate for Clerk of the Circuit Court. He paid a tribute to the qualifications and honesty of his opponent, but thought he had held the office for some time, and that the old Democratic maxim of rotation in office might with propriety apply in this case. lie telt confident he was fully qualified to discharge the duties of the office in a man

ner that would occasion no regret on the part of those who sustained him, if he should be elected. The meeting adjourued at 5 o'clock, and the speakers left for Stringtown. One of the largest assemblages of farmers we have yet seeu gathered at Stringtown in the evening. The large ballrroom was well-filled, and a majority of the voters in the township seemed to be present. A song ws sung by the audietce and Mr. Harrison then delivered an able address. He dwelt at some length upon the great importance of voters thoroughly uo derstanding the questions at issue between the parties, aud, not permitting themselves to be blindly led by designing demagogues. He then disproved many of the charges made by reck less politicians against the Republican party . showed what the doctrines of that organ?, zation really are, and impressed 'upon his audience the necessity of placing it in power. Mr. Bi9chof of the Yolksbole followed in a short and forcible, speeoh in GermanWe judge it was forcible and telling from the applause which it elicited from the Germans, of whom numbers were present. Col. Allen spoke next for a few minutes in an eloquent strain, and was succeeded by Jas. G. 'Jones, who told a lew anecdotes that brought down the house. Mr. Lemcke was then introduced and presented his claims for the suffrages of the voters of Centre township. The work done on Tuesday will produce its fruit at the elections in October and No vember next. Both Scott and Center townshipsare liecominfr thoroughly aroused and will give cood report when called on. The triple-headed fusion in New York woflt3 badly. The honest voters of that State treat the attempt thus brazenly made to sell them out like so many sheep, with the scorn it deserves. Already hundreds and thousands arc signifying their intention of inflicting a rebuke upon the corrupt pol iticians who have given birth to this triplebeaded monster, that they will remember for many years to come. Consistency. The Louisville) Journal is horribly exercised over the fact that the late speech of John C. Breckiuridtre with the barbacue at which it was delivered took place at Ashland. It says the Uocofoco purty lor more than a quarter of n century poured from its mouth, for the destruction of Ashland's great and itiiniortai statesman! a torrent of lies equal in volume to the flood sent forth from the mouth of ihe ureal red dragon of the Apocalypse. Yet in another column of the same paper we lind an article advising the old Whigs of Indiana to cast their votes for this tame party in order to carry this State for a man who denounced Henry Cljy a3 a " b ick hearted traitor aud the first American statesman who ever Fold his country for British gold," and to defeat an old Wiiisr, who ever held aloft the tlag of that party Bp long as it had an" existence. The phillippics of the Journal against the recreancj- of James B. Clay, will not weigh very heavily with tnv;ii who now witness its own shameful attempt to bolster up ths party iu Indiana it has heretofore so bitterlv denounced. A chime of bells for Christ's Church, nt Indianapolis, has recently been purchased. Tbe largest bell weighs 1C1T pounds, and tbe smallest 228 pounds. MISCELLAJSTEOUS.
