At the June Term of the County Commissioners' Court (on the 6th of June), an exhibit of the County School Fund was submitted by the Auditor As this report is of great interest to all concerned in our Common Schools, we copy the material portions of it. REPOBT OF THE COUNTY AMDITOB. Now here tbc County Auditor submits to this Board his annual report of the condition and operations of the School Fund of said County from May 31, 18D9, to June 1, 1860, in the words and figures following, to-wit : AvniToit'a Office, Vanucbbukgh Countt, Evansville, June 1st, ld. j To the honorable, the board of C( mmiwonert of fs County of Vjndtr'jtirgh : Gentlemen : In obedience to the provisions of section 88 of chapter 88 of the acts of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, approved March 5, 1855, the undrrsigned, Auditor of safU county, submits the following Report " in regard to the operation of" this office, connected with the Loans of the School Funds of said county, and to all moneys received on account ot Common School and Congressional Township Funds, to the disbursement at the County Treasury of said Funds from the 31st day cf May, 1859, up to June 1st, 1860: "The Auditor's Report is divided into eighteen statements. No. 1 is a statement of the loans of the Common School fund, together with the lands not paid out by purchasers, outstanding on the 31st day of May, 1859, with the amount of principal paid, and leloaned during theyear, and the amounts upon Loans, of said fuud on the first day of June, 1860: (To-wit:) There was of this fnnd outstanding; on Loans ou June 1, 1869 $"23,571.17 Refunded by iterrower. from May 31st, 1859, to June 1st, lStlO 2,02;.00 Which leaves Loans .... No. 2 is a like statement of the fu::ds belonging to Congressional Township No. 5 south, Range 10 west. Nos. 3, 4, 5, C, and 7, are like statements in regard to Congressional Townships 6 and 7 south, range 10 west, and 5, 6, and 7 south, range 11 west, but we shall not copy tbem in full, as they would be of no particular use to our subscribers in the various civil townships, for the reason that the Congressional townships do not embrace the same territory that the civil townships da. In other words, Congressional township 5 south, range 10 west, lor instance, includes within its bounds about half of the southern part of Scott and the northern part of Centre, and Con. Town. 6 south, range 10 west, embraces portions of Knight, Pigeon, and Centre townships ; and so on throughout the county. The citizens of any particular civil township, therefore, could uot tell without going to the Auditor's office just how thf various funds and their townships were related. Furthermore, the northern half of Armstrong and Scott townships make their returns to Gibson county, on account of a provision in the school law which requires that the county which contains the 16th (or school) section, shall have the managemctit i"f the fund, and the 16th sections ot the Congressional townships of which the above portions of Armstrong and Scott form a part, lie in Gibson county. And again, the southern portion of Union township is embraced in (fractional) Cou. Tow n. 6 south, range 1 1 west, and by a provision of the t.chool law, Union township manages ljer own school lands, and controls the revenue thereof, in this fractional Con. Town., and the said fractional towoshipfund does not come into the tables we allude to, (It will thua be seen that a large fund, arising from the said portions of Union, Scott, and Armstrong townships, are not included in the school fund of the county.) Wo however give the amount outstanding on loans in each of the Congressional townships. The largesilver medal wai awarded lo the Economist at the New York State Fair; aud QM lirat preiuimn at the United States Fair held at Chicago, and twelve other Etatn au.i : County Fairs in lao'.i. In no branch of mechanical arl ha., there been a more apparent advance than in tne man ufacture of stoves. It is hut a lew years sinca the very name was a novelty, representing huge, shapeless strneture, almost as devoid ol ' use as oruame nt. These have gradually given place to patterns of grace aud utility ; until the varletlr s our markets now present have almost exhauste-j the vocabulary of names ; and the different phases the metal is made to assume, would astonish oft : Vulcan himi-elf. In style and finish, the improve : nient has baeaj real, leaving nothing to be desired on that point, but the severe competition in pxice, to which they have been subjected, has deprived them uf luauy of the more substantial qtaalitie desirable. This seems more especially to liavo boon the cam- in reference to e-mk stoves au article i i domestic economy that has more to do with scolding wives ami crotchety servants than rnot people imagine. The public have long sought an improvement in this article, and we ltolieve are ready to pay any reasonable pricu for a cooking atove, if it ou! possesses tbe merits of size, yvt igbt, convenience, durability, economy, nud perfection of matinfactur. These qualities seem to be possessed most fully in the Economist a new stove, perfected and brought cut the past season, bv Messrs. Treadwoll, Ferry .t Norton, of Albany. We heard so much of this stove, nail it looked so much like a stove Intended lor u, that we concluded to try them, and the result of the experiment convince us that the proprietors, in their determination to make tho!' .for in the world, have succeeded.
