John Gault Louisville: Neptune, St. Louis: Mariner. Memphis: Bowling Green, G. river: Grey Eagle, Louisville. Gen. Pike, Memphis: BOATS LEAVING TO-DAY. Dunbar, Cairo: Lue Eaves, Green river: Gen. White, Henderson. ——— ......The <Weather> continues clear and warm, but not unpleasantly so. ......The <River> opposite this point was gradually receding. At Pittsburg it is still slowly falling; 5 feet are reported in the channel. At Cincinnati it is falling at the rate of 10 inches in 24 hours with 8 feet 11 inches in the channel, and 6 feet thence to Louisville. At Louisville it is rising at the rate of 5 inches in 24 hours, and 4 feet 7 inches are reported in the channel. ......The <Dunbar> is in port this morning and leaves at 12 o'clock. She will go through to Cairo this trip, and will take all the New Orleans freight that offers. Passengers will find the Dunbar an A 1 boat as far as accommodations are concerned, while the attentive clerk, Gus. Dusouchet, will show thein every attention. ......The <Charley Bowen> will be receiving freight to-day. She leaves for Cairo at 12 o clock to-morrow. ......This evening is the <Lue Eaves> regular time for departing for the Green river country. ......The <John Laddell> left yesterday for Cairo with a cargo of Flour. ......The calliopean <Grey Eagle> last night brought down a fair trip of freight and passengers, and returned with a very good cargo, consisting in part of 540 sks of corn for Brandiss & Crawford, and 1,000 water melons, owner on board, besides a quantity of marble, dried fruits, rags, feathers, &c., with a number of passengers. ......Capt. Scott has finished his job of removing the railroad iron from the barge in which it was sunk here some time since. The tow boat <Charley Miller>, Capt. Pink Varble, will be here to-day to take it on down. She goes as far as Skipwith's Landing. ......The <Enquirer> credits to the N. A. <Ledger> an item with regard to the <Fanny Bullitt>, which that paper copied, without credit, from this paper, in which it appeared more than a week ago. Rather old news by this time. Our exchanges are welcome to make use of anything which may appear in our columns, but if credited, let it be to the proper source. ......The wharf-boats at Cairo are all crowded with freight, and refuse to receive any more except at the highest rates. The rates have already run up considerably above the tariff fixed by the Steamboatmen's Association, and are continually advancing.— The reluctance with which our forwarding merchants come up to their demands, renders it rather a precarious business for boats re-shipping at Cairo. The <Masonic Gem>, which should have left for that port yesterday, having lost heavily on her last trip, aud being unable to obtain a cargo at living rates, has laid up for the present, to await better prospects for "pay." PILOTS' CONVENTION.—The following in regard to the Pilots' Convention in St. Louis, is from the St. Louis <Democrat> of ! Tuesday: The pilots met in convention yesterday in their hall, corner of Market and Main streets, and delegates were present representing Louisville, Cincinnati, Nashville, New Orleans, Red River, Upper Mississippi and Missouri. About one hundred persons were present altogether. The assemblage organized by appointing W. P. Sheppard, of Cincinnati, President, Messrs. McGee and Mitchell Vice Presidents, and Mr. Kribben Secretary. Vincennes Correspondence VINCENNES, Aug. 16, 1860. JOURNAL REPORTER:—Wabash river fell four inches in the past 48 hours. <Ariel> arrived from Mt. Carmcl last night with 350 bbls flour, and other freight. She departed for Mt. Carmel this morning. She will go to Cairo with one trip, and then she will commence running regularly between Vincennes and Mt. Carmel. Weather clear and warm. W. H. W. ———<>——— A DOUBLE DISAPPOINTMENT.—What will the Douglas and 15 reck in ridge organs do to
avert toe uouhle disappointment which has overtaken them lotb, bv the unexpected resuit of the Arkansas election ? Each fac- j tion claimed the supposed election of Johnson, as Governor, is a triumph, but it turns j Cash Capital, out that Johnson is defeated, and that Rec- ' tor, the Independent Democratic candidate who was not recognized by either the Douglas or Breckinridge organs, is the succestful
man. When the first news of the Arkansas electiou was received, the Louisville Courier consoled itself for the defeat of McClarty in Kentucky by bringing out its big gun and proclaiming the election of Johnson a great Breckinridge triumph. The organs of tbe party elsewhere did the same thing, including the St. Louis Bulletin. The Cincinnati Enquirer shortly after claimed that Johnson was supported by Major Flournoy, Albert Rust and all other Douglas men in Arkansas, and that the Breckinridge principle of secession, disunion, etc., was represented by Rector, tbe supposed defeated. What will they say now ? If the Courier aud Bulletin were light, Breckinridge has been rebuked ; if the Enquirer was correct, then Douglas has sustained a defeat. St. I ovis Dem.

There is little to report of ihe condition of crops in Indiana since our last summary. Wheat is holding up fully to the highest anticipation, and I?ay be set down as the best crop, taken altogether, ever produced in this "State. A number of fields are reported by the local papers to have turned out Irom 40 to 45 bushels per acre ; a few have gone up to 50, and two are recorded as having reached the remarkable figure of 62 bushels to the acre. Ot course tue.e are expectations, but they are such as occur frequently in "good years," and they may lie accepted as a proof of the favorable i ircuinstat.ces and Buit&bfo conditions that help a w heat nop out. ( hits, so far as we may judge from local reports, are making a better show than was expected. lieing all cut, there is a chance to guess at the yield with some certainty, and the guesses are generally better now than they were in June. In Northern Indiana some of the papers say the mils crop is remarkably tine. In other quarter it ii set down as moderate in yield, thou .h of good quality. In some counties of the center aud soulh it lias been reported a failure. Un the whole we should say that it was a light crop, but very far from a failure. Corn seems to be doing juit as weli as it is possible for thrifty corn well waiered and warmed to do. We hear of do alarms or fears in any quarter, though a week or two ago sutue apprehensions was telt along the lower part of the Wabash ou accouut of drouth. Probably a little rain would not be amiss, after the late intensely hot weather, anywhere, but tiie crop is not suffering for it yet. Ohi. Gaz. The Council hare p.tssed au orJicituce making it a penalty of $20, and costs, for entering tue premises of any citizen and taking or destroying fruit and vegetables, or shade aud fruit trees.
