White, Henderson; Masonic Gem, Cairo; Dunbar, Paducah. ——— ......The <Weather> continues settled, the days being clear and warm but breezy, and the nights cool. ......The <River> was still at a stand on Saturday evening. It is reported stationary at Pittsburg, but fulling thence all the way down. At Louisville it had fallen two inches. There were 4 feet 2 inches in the canal. ......The race horse <Grey Eagle>, of calliopean celebrity, is the regular packet for Louisville and way landings, at 12 o'clock to-day. There is no boat more fleet, and no clerks more active and obliging; than Messrs Lusk, Voris, and Donelly. Mr. John B. Hall, at No. 2 Water street, is the <Grey Eagle's> agent for this place. ......The regular Green river packet, <Bowling Green>, with Capt. Liter in command and the popular John Travis in the office, is in port for Bowling Green this evening. Now's your chance for the "Barren" country. ......The <Gen. White> having kept the Sabbath, as a Christian should, makes her usual trip to Henderson to-day. ......The <Dunbar> is on hand as usual and is taking freight and passengers for Paducah, for which post she departs at 12 o'clock. ......The <Masonic Gem> is the regular packet for Cairo and intermediate landings this evening. Captain Josh. McDonald attends to passengers. ......The <Rocket> passed up Saturday. She left Memphis Thursday evening with 93 bales of Ohio cotton. ......There is a rumor afloat that certain parties, among whom are mentioned the names of Messrs. Fisher & Bolus, and Mr. Lemcke, are about negotiating for the purchase of the steamer <Fanny Bullitt>. ......The <T. C. Twichell>, Capt. J. B. Holland, as she was coming out of the Mississippi, Thursday afternoon, struck a rock at the mouth of the Ohio, and arrived at Cairo in a sinking condition. She was beached on the Kentucky side, and took a couple of flatboats to aid her. She was stove in just forward of her larboard wheelhouse. She entered protest at Cairo Friday morning, and the hole will be repaired so that she can proceed to Mound City, where she will go on the ways. Her freight was not materially damaged. The <Twitchell> left St. Louis for New Orleans with partial cargo of produce on Wednesday. She had lately been purchased by Capt. Holland, and waa a very good passenger boat worth probably $15,000 or $20,000. ———<>———

SUKADEK, AKent. Accident to Blondin. Mons. Blondin, the celebrated tight rope performer, met with a serious accident night before last during his exhibition at Chillicothe. After dusk he gave a performance of trundling a wheelbarrow across a rope, and to make the feat more terrific, he encircled himself in a blaze of fire works which were ignited simultaneously with his starting. Before he had accomplished half his task, one of the pieces prematurely exploded and set fire to his clothing. The peril of his situation could not be seen by the thousands of spectators below, in consequence of the continued emissions of sparks, and the adventurous Blondin had nothing to do but walk the rope and suffer the torture of being slowly roasted. Having accomplished the distance, he by his own efforts succeeded in extinguishing the flames, but not before his back was very badly burned. The rope was stretched across a street, at a distance of seventy-five feet from the ground, and none save Blondin could have withstood the pain that he must have suffered. We are inclined to the opinion that the Mons. will not attempt any more tightrope performances with pyrotechnic concomitants. It is very well to hazard the surging waters of Niagara, in hand baskets, coffee sacks, &c.; but shrouded in a sheet of flame, with a chance of burning to death, added to that of falling, smacks a little too much of the dangerous to be much relished even by the intrepid Blondin.—<Cin. Gaz>. ———<>——— NIAGARA IS PASSING AWAY.—The Falls recede, at present, we are told, at something less than a foot in a year. Geology is able to predict that when a recession of a mile has taken place—some five or six thousand year—hence the height of the Fall will be reduced by a score of feet. Ten thousand years more, when the Fall shall have worn its way four miles further back, all that constitutes Niagara will have disappeared, and the whole descent will be accomplished by a scries of rapids like those near the whirpool [sic].
