Dunbar, Paducah; Grey Eagle, jr., Louisv.; Bowling Green, Woodbury. ——— ......The <Weather>, Saturday, was very warm during the day, but cool and windy at night. ......The <River>, opposite this point, has again commenced slowly to decline. ......The <Grey Eagle>, the junior craft of that name, is the mail boat for Louisville, leaving to-day at noon. She is a very light, fleet and beautiful boat, and is in chargo of able and experienced officers. Her principal clerk, Mr. J. A. Lusk, is a very polite and affable gentleman, and shows passengers every attention. Mr. John B. Hall, at No. 2 Water street, is agent for the <Eagle>. ......The <Key West>, Capt. Lafarge, arrived at St. Louis on Wednesday, having since the 3d of May last sailed twice three thousand two hundred miles. She, accompanied by another little steamer, the Chippewa, succeeded in making Fort Benton, which had never been done before. The news of the arrival of the little boats spread through the country around Fort Benton like wildfire, and there was great commotion among the red skins. They were perfectly amazed and highly gratified with the "fire canoes." On July 5th the Key West turned her bow homeward, meeting with no accident whatever, and her crew were in good health the entire trip. The boats had a fine passage down, the <Chippewa> being in the rear. The various tribes of Indians were peaceably disposed toward the whites, but, as usual, anything but friendly feelings among themselves. These boats disembarked at Fort Benton Major Blake and his three hundred troops, and they took up their line of march for Washington Territory ......The channel of the Scioto, at its mouth, has been completely changed by the late rise. The bar which was just above the Point has been thrown across the opposite side of the stream, and a new channel is being washed on this side; while the old one is fast filling up. No inconvenience will be made, we apprehend, from this new arrangement of Nature.—<Cin. Com>. ......The Memphis papers announce the death of Captain Gilbert G. Bidwell, formerly of the <Lady Walton>. His remains were to be taken to Cincinnati for interment. ......The <Dunbar> is the mail packet for Paducah at 12 o'clock to day. Passengers will find her officers polite and gentlemanly, and her accommodations unsurpassed. ......The U. S. mail steamer <Bowling Green> leaves this evening for all joints on Green river, as far as Woodbury. Passengers and freight will be taken thence to Bowling Green by the steamer <D. B. Campbell>. ......A bold attempt to play off the bogus bill dodge upon the steamer <D. A. January>, was made recently at St Louis. The <Bulletin> gives the following account of the transaction: A sprightly looking young man, dressed in light summer clothing, with a pen behind his ear, and looking the clerk all over, presented bills of lading from the house of K. H. Townsend & Co., to Captain Thomas Riley, clerk of the steamer <D. A. January>, who looked over the bills, then referred to the dray tickets, saw the second clerk's name, J. R. Norton, signed thereto, and concluded all was right. Captain R. gave the young man—Robert Fitzimmons—for so he called himself, a due bill for $87 40 at the same time remarking that the boat would not go out till Monday, and that if he would present the due bill, the cash would be ready. The young man departed apparently in a very happy state of cogitation. On Monday the due bill was presented for payment, when the nice young man was arrested, and put in the lockup. The dray tickets and bills of lading turned out to be bogus. A fellow by the name of Buckman, alias Brickwell, is implicated. He was also arrested. ———<>——— Xortu Carolina. The Constitution says there will be no Electoral ticket for Douglas and Johnson in North Carolina. The North Carolina Standard has abandoned them, ind hoisted the t!ag of Breckinridge and Lane. A NEW Republican paper has been started at Anna, iu Union county, Illinois, under the title of the L'di-ju County Record. This is assaultiug the enemy in the very center of its stronghold. Every day we hear of tome Douglas Democrat in the South bought by the Administration. This domestic slave trade is carried on quite briskly. I.ou. Ji.ur. Pacl Mokpiiv, after remaining a few weeks in New York, will take his final doparture for Paris, which he intends to make his permanent home. Rerelit iy Kallroail. July 2MB 1400 1 car load marMe, 51.
