Dunbar, Paducah: Trio, LesdafOH: Bowling Green, B. Green, Lue Eaves, Ashbysburg. ——— The <River>, according to latest accounts from above is threatening to become very low again. At Pittsburgh it continued to decline, with three and a half feet water in the channel by the mark. On Glasshouse and the Sisters there were only thirty inches water scant, with four feet water at Wheeling, and the same depth of water scant at Blanney. At Cincinnati it was declining with only six feet water thence to Louisville. At the latter place it commenced receding on Friday evening, and has since been steadily falling. At this point the river continued swelling up to Saturday evening, when the water appeared very muddy and the surface was covered with foam, indicating heavy rains and a rise of some of the small tributaries above. The weather continues very pleasant, and business fair for the season. .......The <Trio> is the regular packet for Louisville this morning. She leaves the wharf at 6 o'clock. ......The <Dunbar> is the regular down river packet for to-day. She departs at 12 o'clock for Paducah. She is an elegant craft, and her officers are all accomplished gentlemen. ......The <Lue Eaves> is due to-day from Bowling Green. The steamer of that name having taken the mail off her hands we presume she will resume her regular tri-weekly trips to Ashbysburgh and the mouth of Pond river. ......The <Masonic Gem> came in yesterday morning from the Wabash river. She only ran up as far as Grayville, when she found the water falling so rapidly that she turned back, not daring to go further. ......The <Pacific> passed down on Saturday morning on her way to Paducah, where she will be laid up for the season. ......Mr. Moore, a steamboat captain, who has long been engaged in the Red river trade, has lately discovered a practicable mode of overcoming the difficulties interposed in the way of navigation by the raft, using the Jefferson route until Red bayou is reached, and through an old channel of the river reentering the main channel above the raft. A very small canal of less than four hundred feet, will complete the connection desired, so as to, open the Upper Red river country to market. ......Steam was raised on the <Bowling Green, on Saturday evening, for the first time since she was tied up, and she took a short turn round off the city wharf, gliding through the water like an eel. Her speed, for a boat of her build, is remarkable. She will certainly reclaim her position as the champion of the Green River packets. This evening she leaves for Bowling Green, having obtained the contract for carrying the mail between that point and Evansville.— She will run regularly from this date, leaving on Mondays and Thursdays, making two trips a week. STEAMBOAT CAPTAINS' ASSOCIATION.— This organization adjourned yesterday (Friday) after a very pleasant and harmonious session of four days. So full of interest were the proceedings that many of the members were reluctant to dissolve what had been had been an eminently agreeable re-union. Much that will be promotive of steamboat interests, as well as the true interests of commerce, was effected. We trust that the Association thus happily instituted may flourish these many years to come and accomplish a great and good work. The official proceedings will be published in pamphlet form under the superintendence of Capt. Chas. F. Reynolds, one of the secretaries.—<Lou. Jour>. ======= A Wise Precaution-. A man traveling entered a tavern, and seeing no one present bat the landlord and a negro, seated himself, and entered into conversation with the negro. Shortly he asked Samba if he was dry ? Sambo said he was. Stranger told him to go the bar, and take something at bi3 expense. Negro did so, and shortly left. Landlord says to the stranger: " Are you acquainted with that nigger " No, never saw him before; but why do you ask V " I supposed so from your conversing with him, and asking to drink.'' "Ob," said the stranger, "I was only experimenting. The fact is, I was dry too, and I thought if your liquor didn't kill the negro iu fifteen minutes, I would venture to take a drink myself.': Washington, July 13th. All the statements representing that Mr. Bright of Indiana had agreed to support or countenance the Dougl.13 ticket, indirectly or otherwise, are unfounded in whole and iu part. Information has been received here from direct sources, sbstinp that he and his friends have organized a Breckinridge Electoral ticket, which will be immediately put in the ' field, and they intend to run it at all hazards, and without tbc least purpose to com- I promise. As the above paragraph is cak-ulated to plnce the New Harmony Band in a false po- ' sition, we would state that there was no engagement made. Almost at the last hour a messenger arrived from Evansville to engage the services of the Band, but a portion of the members being absent from the town, it was impossible to get them together iu time to go to Evansville.
