Gillum, Henderson: Diadem, Pitts.: Dunbar, Paducah. BOATS LEAVING TO-DAY. Grey Eagle, Henderson and Louisville, Charley Bowen, Cairo. ——— ......The <Weather>, yesterday was cloudy and cool in the morning; and after it cleared up and the sun shone it did not become oppressively warm, for there was a brisk breeze stirring, which was very refreshing. About the middle of the afternoon it again clouded up and we had a fine shower, after which the clouds broke away, in fragments, and the cool evening was flecked with streaks of light and shadow. ......The <river>, at this point is still slowly receding, but from the rise above us we have reason to expect that it will come to a stand or perhaps swell a little in the course of a day or so. At Pittsburgh they have had a considerable rise. 9 feet are reported at that point, and 8 feet at Wheeling. The swell is from the Monongahela. At Louisville there were 3 feet 2 inches in the canal and rising. All the boats which have been aground between that place and this have managed to get off, except the <Glendale> which is still laid up in the middle of the river at Flint Isand. Hence to Cairo the river is in good condition for the light draughts, and they are making the most of it. ......<Business> on the levee was rather more brisk than usual, the <Charley Bowen> discharging a large quantity of freight, and the <Dunbar, Sam Kirkman, and Charley Bowen>, taking on good loads. Tobacco was shipped at $6 per hhd.; whisky $1 per brl. flour 50c per brl.; corn 30c per sack.: hay 10 per tun. ......The <Charley Bowen> came in yesterday heavily laden, having on board part of the cargo of the <Diana>, besides other freight. She returns to-day to Cairo, and we advise passengers if good fare, polite and obliging officers and attentive waiters are any inducement, to take passage on her. Some interested person has been circulating a report that the <Bowen> was going to be laid up. All such rumors are groundless. There will be few boats running when the <Charley> stops. It is the intention of Capt. Dexter to keep her going "as long as there is any moisture in the sand." ......The splendid passenger steamer <Grey Eagle> will be down from Louisville to-day, and after just going down to bid our Henderson neighbors good evening, will return up the river to night. The passenger accommodations of the <Grey Eagle> are unsurpassed by any boat on the Western waters. Our good-natured friend, Capt. John B. Hall, at I. A. Crane's is her agent. ......We neglected yesterday to notice the arrival and departure of the Louisville and Evansville packet <Trio>, on her first trip in that trade, the evening before. We had been expecting her for some time, and not having made her appearance, we had about concluded that "she wouldn't and she couldn't and she didn't come at all," and had almost quit looking for her. We are sorry to miss from our wharf the ever punctual <Bracelet>, with her obliging and genial Officers, Capt. Caffrey and Will. Duval, but while we wish her success in whatever position she may assume, we welcome the <Trio> to her place, and hope she may fill it worthily ......The arrangement by which the <Dunbar> was to go into the Paducah and Memphis trade, and the <Sam Kirkman> take her present position, was not finally entered into. The <Dunbar> was here yesterday, and departed for Paducah at her usual hour, with a fine trip. She will continue in her present service as long as there is water enough to float her. ......The <Sam Kirkman> arrived at this port yesterday. She will not take the place of the <Dunbar>, as reported, but will enter as a regular packet the trade between here and Cairo. We will give her running time ass soon as officially apprised of it. ......The <W. V. Gillum> brought down . another load of cross-ties for the Henderson and Nashville Railroad, yesterday. ......Capt. P. G. O' Riley, finding the water where his wharf boat has been lying growing too shallow for convenience, has had her dropped down to a point almost opposite the City Hotel, where the water is deeper, and shippers and steamboat men will find him always in readiness to transact any business with which they may favor him. DISCONTINUED.—The office of Surveyor of the port of New Albany, held by J. B. Norman, has been discontinued, and the Collector of Louisville directed to take charge of the books, papers and other documents. This will give a large increase to the business of the Surveyor here.—<Lou. Jour>. THE BOATMEN'S CONVENTION.—The Union Steamboat, Association of steamboat captains, hold their Convention in Louisville on the 10th inst. The Convention is to be held in the Inspector's office, and will be largely attended. ......Capt. C. F. Reynolds is coming this way with the intention of purchasing an interest in the <Autocrat>. ......A Convention of Engineers, represented by delegates from all the ports of entry in the South and West, will assemble in Louisville on the 1st day of August, 1860. The objects of this Convention will be to establish a more perfect union among engineers, as well as to legislate upon the various abuses under which the craft now labor, in the discharge of their professional duties.—<Lou. Business Summary for tlie Past Week A good demund tor Eastern Exchange has prevailed during the greater portion of the week, and the market is firm at full rates, there being no change since our last. New Orleans very dull at dis. buying and par to prem. selling. There was an active demand for gold in the early part of the week, from banks in the interior, with which to prepare tor their semi-annual reports, but this demand ceased the last few days, and the market is quiet at 40 prem. The offerings of time bills on the East or South, are still very light, and in the East they nre taken at Gi 8 per cent discount. No change in uncurreut money. The wheat harvest in Kentucky, this State and Indiana is over, and the result is about as we stated in May last, a fair crop in this State and Indiana, and about threefourths au average in Kentucky, with a short head. Flour remains dull, and except in the small way prices are nominal. Considerable shipments are being made to seek a market elsewhere. Wheat declined 8()10c per bushel, though but little offering, but the millers are not buying. Corn scarce and in good demand, closing at 48c. Oats advanced to 40c, owing to light receipts. Barley nominal. None of consequence offering. Rye dull at 7577c. The provision market has been excited a good deal the past week, and prices of mess pork, bacon, and bulk meats materially advanced. Si 8 V.") was offered quite treely for mess pork on Monday, but buyers asked $19 00 for even fair brands. Hacon could have been soid very freely at S'c and 104c for shoulders and sides, but holders asked 'J and 1 lc which caused buyers to hold back, but these rales were paid by a speculator, for 200 hhds for 1st of August delivery. Bulk sides could have been sold to a large extent at 10c, but they were held at lOJc, except shoulders were taken with them at 8e, in which case sides could have been bought at 10c. There is a continued presing demand for hams, and sugar-cured are up to 1212$, and not easy to buy at these rates, few of the house3 having any to spare beyond what they need to supply their regular customers. Common hams are also scarce and in demand at 10j(all. Lard remains quiet, and no demand or nothing doing of importance The stock of brl or in New York on the 1st inst. was 223 brls the 1st the 1st of Julv, 1 71.."i5:i brls, against 76,of June, and 00,067 brls 159. Whisky is dull, and declined ic Monday and yesterday, closing at 17c. The grocery market is dull, and prices of molasses are lc lower prime, in oak cooperage, being obtainable at 44c. Several lots of reboiled have been consigned to this market, and are offered at 3-Oc, without finding buyers. This article does not suit our trade. MISCELLANEOUS.
DR. HAAS, having leased the rootcs formerlyoccupied by Dr. Kivett, in Dr. Bray's building, opposite the Post Office, for a series of years, would respectfully solicit the citizens of Evansville and the surrounding towns and country, 'o visit his rooms aid see the specimens on exhibition, whether they need the services of a Dentist or not. Since the issuing of his last circular and advertisement, liver a year since, several improvements and new inventions have been made, of which he has availed himself, and allows nothing that will subserve the interests of his patients, to pass unsecured. His facilities are better and establishment larger, without doubt, thar any other in our Slate, nud equal teany in Eastern cities. All those who need Dental operations performed, and are pleased with his work, shall bo attended to with great pleasure. The following are the styles of work manufactured by him: Continuous Gum; Block or Carved Work; Vulcanite Base; Coralite; Amber; Chuoplastic; Gold and Silver work. Nothing can excel the beauty aud cleanliness of the continuous gum work. It is without a seam or crevice. Checks that are sunken can be restored to nearly their original contour by this style of work, and also by the use of the Vulcanite, Coralite, and Amber Base. The latier styles, for lightness and adaptation to difficult mouths, excel any-cei-anything we have ever seen. He. has several anaesthetics for alleviating pain when extracting teeth. The- are perfectly harmless. The moii't delicate can have them applied. He does not advertise anything he cannot do, nor exhibit anything not made by himself Parents should consult the health and beauty ( f their children by having the Dentist direct their second dentition, thereby producing symmetry and health to those invaluable organs. Irregularity of children's teeth conted sue cessfully. That having decayed teeth, should either have theia extracted or nlled at once (lhe latier if pisibie). Th health of the parties aud the remaining teeth demand this. sMf I take pleasure in introducing Dr. Haas, my successor to the old rooms in Bray's building, hoping he will find them both ph'naant and profitable From my intercourse with the Doctor, 1 am pleased to find him one of the progress i n g ; possessing taste and high professional ability and standing.
