FOR AUDITOR OF STATE, ALBERT LANGE, of Vigo. FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL, JAMES G. JONES, of Vanderburgh. FOR REPORTER OF SUPREME COURT, BENJAMIN HARRISON, of Marion. FOR CLERK OF SUPREME COURT, JOHN PAUL JONES, of Lagrange. FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION, MILES J. FLETCHER, of Putnam. Anybody. The Douglas papers all accept Johnson instead of Fitzpatrick 'with thankfulness. At first Fitz. was a most wonderful man ; now Johnson or Johnston (which is it, Enquirer ?) is " that same.'' He is a perfect hero. The readiness wiih which they take him up, " unsight, unseen" (as the boys say reminds us of the case of the old maid praying in the barn for a husband. An owl on the roof hooted who, who-o-o ! The ancient maiden quickly replied " Anybody, Lord. So with the Douglosites. Their eae is desperate. There is do time or opportunity to make a choice and be fastidious. Anybody for a candidate will do. Candidates.- -There are six Presidential candidates already in the field Lincoln, Bell, Houston, Douglas, Breckinridge, and Gerrit Smith. State- Sentinel. You Democratic papers are in the linbit of saying that Lincoln i.-i the Abolition candidate. Gerrit Smith is an Abolitionist. What do his party want to run him for if Lincoln is an Abolitionist '? In making your reckless charges on the Republicans, be sure and don't get yourself inextricably entangled in absurdities. Items The following we cli-j from the Cincinnati Gazette's correspondence: The Southern papers are eomi njr out almost uuauimously for Breckinridge and Lane. Douglas will not have the .fhost of a chance in any slaveolding Slate. The Baltimore Argus, the Democratic organ in Maryland, having received its instructions, has declared for Breckinridge. Douglas will not have corporal's guard in Maryland, and Bell and Everett will sweep the State. Lincoln will receive a great majority of the votes there. The President proposes to wage a merciless war on the small remnant of Douglas office-holders. We, Russell takes George Sanders place as naval officer of New York. Some vitality is Bought to be given to the Houston movement, but the effect is spasmodic. There is a terrible pucker among the Pennsylvania Democrats about their electoral ticket, part. of which is for Douglas and part for Breckinridge. Gov. Wi?c of Va. is out strongly for Breckinridge. This kills Douglas in the Old Dominion. Important Bank Decision. In the :St. Louis Circuit Court an important decision was rendered on Saturday morning by Judge Breckinride in the case of the Boatmen's Saving Institution against the State Bank of Missouri. The court held that the State Bank had the right to pay the five dollar bills in silver, treating each as a separate demand. Relative to bills of a higher denomination the court held that under the act of Congress of lSu'2, the State Bank could not tender silver coin, and accordingly decided for the plaintiff. The amount presented for redemption was $54,840, of which sum $1,100 was in five dollar bills. The remaining $33,050 was in large bills. The court decided that in not redeeming these bills in gold the default was made, and entitled the plaintiff to twenty per cent, per annum damages till paid, fW its refusal to pay. The case was able argued by the best lawyers in Missouri. It is said the State Bank will appeal, to which the Boatmen's Saving institul ion will not object, the investment beiog a firstclass one for these dull times. Lou. Jour. Death op an old Citizen. Elihu Stout, Esq., an old aud estimable citizen, departed this life Saturday and was buried on Sabbath by the Masonic Fraternity. Mr. Stout was one ot our oldest citizens, having emigrated to this city half a century since, where he, established very soou after the Indiana Gozette, which was changed to the Western Sun newspaper, the first paper printed in the South Vet. He coutinued a proprietor and editor of the Sun lor about forty years, baring ceased his connection with it only about fifteen years ago, w hen lie received the appointment of Post Master. Mr. Stout connected himself with I be Masonic Lodge in 1309, since w hich time be has been a consistent brother. He was also a worthv member of the Methodist Churcb. Mr. S. leaves one sou aud three daughters and many grand children to mourn his loss. May he rest io paee until called to occupy a higher and mitre Meat estate. Fim. Gaz. , The Vinceuues Gazette says that some of those Democrats w ho joined in the Douglas attempt at a ratificat ion in thai place, regretted having committed themselves when Ihe heard of the nomination of Breckinridge and i.ane.
r'..i ih i v ;. p..,.' , ,, .,r.-j MmantteM ItnUMT) fi Is.t Wrrlt. The demand for money has been quite moderate during the week, and the market has rukd very easy, there beiim an anxiety displayed to get ;0O.l paper at 8(,10 per cent. Exchange has not varied much during the week, though towards the close the demand was better, which is owing to wants of various corporations which have to meet their July interest in the Bast. Time bills on the East are wanted at 68 per cent., and very few offering. The offerings of unenrrent money are light, and it is bought freely at 1 dis. for Missouri, and 1 dis. for Illinuis and Wisconsin. The Wheat harvest is p.-ogressing in Kt ltucky, and several samples of the new crop have been exhibited iu this market during the week. One lot of Alabama sold at SI IS. The quality 13 pretty good. Samples of new Barley have also been exhibited, of a very superior quallity. The Flour market continues irregular, more so than we have known it for several years, and it has been impossible to give regular quotations any day during the week. One day 2,000 brls super, to extra sold at S t 50(i 4 75, and the next day the same grade would bring 253C per brl over these rates, whilst small lots extra, fresh ground, brought prices ranging from S5 10 to SG. Wheat advanced 3 to 5c during the week
but closed dull and little better than nominal at $1 10 1 20 for red nnd Sl 25 for white ; there has been very little of the latter grade offered, and the receipts of ail kinds have been quite small. It is clear that the old crop is pretty well drained out of the country, so that receipts of any amount need not be looked for until the new crop is ready for market. Oats have Ijeen in lurge supply p.nd declined to 30, but became better at the close, selling at 37. Rye dull. Barley in demand but very little offering. Whisky steady all the week at 1 7i. The receipts of this article are very light but seem to be equal to the demand. The market for mess pork did not change in anj- essential particular during the week. There has been no pressing demand, and the business done has been quite limited. Holders continue to ask jl818 '25. and are firm. Yesterday it advanced to 18 75 in New York. Bacon has been in fair demand in the fore part and active demand in the latter part of the week, and about 'JOOhhds. sold, closing at SAc. and 9Jc. for shoulders aud sides. Thi3 demand is from the East chiefly from Baltimore and Philadelphia. As a consequence of this the desire to buy bulk meats has increased, and 7c. and 9jc. were freely offered for shoulders and sides. At the close bacon was held at 8i, 10 1 and 1 1 A, with buyers at J below these rates, lor sides, and .Jc. for shoulders, and bulk meats were held at 7. for shoulders, and dj ft 9j for medium and heavy sides, with buyers at gC below these figures. Lard sold in the early part of the week at 12c for prime iu tierces, and the same price was paid for 1,300 kegs, but subsequently, prime in ticn es was withdrawn from tin- market, and the same quality iu barrels and keg- was offered at 12c without finding buyers. The tierce lard is wanted for tl.e Havana market, lieibg the only kind adapted to that trade. tV noticp an increased demand for Sugar Cured Hams, and prices have advanced to 11 1(5 12c. The stock is greatly reduced, and the :-ame may be said of Common Hams. A further decline of 25c. in Beef Cattle, w i lit a large supply and r. dull market. Potatoes are 25e. per bbl lower aud very dull. The market is now well supplied vtith new, which are selling in the small way at UOc. per bushel, so that old may now be considered out of date. There has been no change in the giocery market of note ; the demand for Sugar and Molasses has been quite moderate, and both are dull. Coffee in fair demand and the market fair to cood bringing 1 -1 Aof 1 1 jje. The Crops. The indications nr that the present season will be one of the most bounteous to the husbandman within the memory of the "oldest inhabitant.'' Contrary 1 to the opinion entertained in t lie early part of the season, a liiir w heat crop is being harvested in this country. Although there was much "frozen out " during the winter, in view of the large area planted, and the fine, lull beading of what has come to maturity, we 5I1011I1I not be surprised if the aggregate yield should prove greater than that of any previous season, with the exception of the two last. The bay, oaf, and potatoe crops promise an unprecedented ield. But the source of the greatest congratulation is to be found in the present condition ami proapeotS O.I '.he grpat staple, the corn crop. The area planted is fully one-third greater than ever before, embracing those vast tracts of alluvial land, whose fertility has passed into a proverb, but which, owing to the general raid protracted overllow of the past two or three seasons, have contributed little or nothing to the general yield. Should the season continue favorable, there is 110 doubt tiiat the yield will be the greatest ever known, and more than double that of last year. Ml. Yirnuii Advocate.
