STEAMBOAT REGISTER. ARRIVED. Fanny Bullitt, I.ou., Ohio Belle, N. O., Union, B. Green, John Tompkins, Lou., Peytona, N. O., Bracelet, Lou., W. V. Uillum, G. River, Charley Bourn, Cairo. DEPARTED. Fanny Bullitt, N. 0., Ohio Bolle, Ciu., Union, Leu., John Tompkins, Mem., Peytona, Lou., Bracelet, Lou. The Weather, yesterday, was damp tiuil very warm ; rainy in the morning, cloudy v-'ilh occasional gleams of sunshine during the day, and sultry -with prospects of rain at j night. The River at this point is still swelling, but so gradually that it requires very close observation to note any change. Business on the levee was dull and freights scarce. Although there were but few boats passing, there are too many for the amount of business, and none of them can make paying trips. Most of the larger boats however will soon lay up, and then we hope the smaller ones may driire a profita- j ble trade. The Charley Boiccn will be in port I this morning, ready to receive freight for uumoenana river, Cairo, Memphis, rscw Orleans, and all way points on the Ohio. She is an Evansville boat and is officered by Evansville men. The elegant steamer Dunbar is the regular mail packet for Paducah and intermediate points to-day. We can recommend her for unsurpassed accommodations, both as a passenger and freight boat. Her hour of leaving is 1 2 m. Uapt. Rothrock's packet, the Union, came in from Bowling Green with 189 hhds tobacco. She left for Louisville last night. To her gentlemanly and affable clerk, M r. E. C. Jenkins, we are under obligations for a manifest and favors. Tho Kate French, lying at Sandy Island, was sold on last Monday, by order of the Chancery Court of Jefferson county, Ky. She was bid off at $3,000, but we have not ascertained the name of the purchaser. The famous John Ganlt, of Louisville, comes down to-day on her way to Nashville, and will be ready to receive all freight for that or intermediate points with which she may be favored. The John Gault is ably commanded by Captain Bunce, one of the best boatmen on the river, ami as a passenger boat is unsurpassed in her ajpointments. We recommend her to nil who desire to take a safe and expeditions trip do wn the river. The steamer Ohio Belle and Peytona came up with fair trips of passengers, but light freight. The latter was just five days out from New Orleans. A meeting of steamboat captains and owners was held in Pittsburgh Wednesday, for the purpose of taking into consideration the appointment of a committee to attend the Convention of steamboat Captains to lie held at Louisville, Ky., July 10th. The owners of the Bracelet, now in the Evansville line, and Lancaster A'o. 3, plying to St. Louis, have swapped boats, the latter receiving some boot, but the amount has not yet been determined. The sale and sum is to be decided by referees. The Bracelet is to be transferred to the Louisville and Carrolton packet line, and the Ijancaster goes into the Louisville and Evansville trade. The rumor that the Portsmouth packet, Grey Eayle, has been purchased for the Louisville and Henderson trade is unfounded. It probably originated from the paragraph in the Courier, the other day, that Capt. Dick Fowler of Paducah, went to Cincinnati to try to buy the Grey Eayle for the Paducah mail line. Lou. four. The rogues of New Urlcans have devised a new method of swindling steamboats, viz: by making out false bills of lading, with charges, and presenting them to the clerks of boats. An attempt of this kind was made upon clerk Douglas, of the Imperial, before leaving, but foituuately the rascal was arrested by the police before he succeeded in getting the charges. Clerks would do well to be on the lookout for such operations, as the trick is a very good one. St. Louis Eve. Iftws. ltlver Receipts. To-night Mr. G. D. Chaplin takes a benefit, and we hope the patrons of the drama will show their appreciation of his talents as an actor, by giving him a good house. The play for to-night is the i;reat moral drama of "The DxTnXABP," a piece which cannot fail to produce a gMi effect.
