To represent that Mr. Lincoln is covered up with pledged to rueu, faction?, clique, &c, within the Repnbliraii party, and that his election will be the triumph of Weed, Greeley, or of some squad of insiders or outsiders, to the exclusion of all the rest of mankind, Will be one of the tricks of the Democratic party during the campaign. We h.no a story to tell on that point: On the Monday preceding the nomination one of Mr. Lincoln's trusted friends addressed him a note, telliug hhn that his prospects wete improving, biit that at the last moment it might be necessary to say ft word here and a word there for securing tin- support of certain interests; and the writer of the note asked that he, with two Other friends whom he untried, might bo empowered to ' negotiate,' it negotiations became neces sary. We saw Mr. Lincoln's reply It was I worthy of Washington, lie said: "No, gentlemen ; 1 have not asked the nomination, and 1 will not buy it with pledges. If I am nominated and elected, I shall not gm into the Presidency as the tool of this mac, or that, or as the property of any faction or clique." We quote from memory, but his Innouape was substantially as we give it ; and nothing but an injunction of secresy prevents us from printing the name of the gentleman to whom the letter Was 1 uddressed. Ckicayo Press and Trihune. Tkrkuu.e Tornado in 'Pk.nnsvlvania-As f.xtike Village Blown Away Many Lives Lost. A fearfully destructive tornado, says Saturday's Pittsburgh Post, visited h I ttle town called Maysville, in Clarion County, Wednesday last about noon. The lit'.le village, which was composed of a grist-mill, saw-mill, store, tavern, and some si i or eight houses, stables, Ac, situated on Kfdbank Creek, was entirely blown away ; the timbers of the binding, household furniture, lieds, bedding, tools, being scattered in every direction, amidst the wildest collusion, consternation and lamentation of Uh terrified and suffering inhabitants. Kur distance of ten miles along the bank of tie creek the scene is described by eye witnesses as terrible to look on. Large forest tries were torn from their roots and hurled lirougb the air like straws. We have not ben able to learn the full particulars, or the nxnes of the killed and wounded, but have bn told that some seven or eight persons h.ve already been found dead, while a great in'.ny are missing, uud others, including women and children, had their arms and ls broken, and were otherwise seriously iqjired. :HB Advantage or " MrseLK.' A most renarkable accident recently bel'el Frank Aysrs, of Rochester. He was seated in a cirriage, when the horse "shied," throwing Mr. Avers very suddenly from his seat. Infaling out, Mr. Ayers' head was inserted between two of the spokes of the off bind wheri, while his feet projected upward. Beinj a powerful man, he grasped the wheel withboth bands, and by main strength, notwithHaudingthe horses were prancing about ' held the wheel Stiff until he was released i NotHng bnt his muscular power and presence of mind saved him from an instantaneous and horrible death. Tie Japanese. According to tiie iufortnatioa at the Navy Department, the Niagara will be ready for sea about the 1st of July, when the Japanese will embark. The breaks in ner machinery are attributed entirely to the carelessness of the engiucers. It is a mistake to suppose that the Japanese Envoys re resent the highest dignity of the Empire. We are pleased to learn that the frrk'ht business on the Kvansville and Cranfotdsville Railroad, has greatly increased lately. Two large trains came up on the road yesterday, loaded heavily with tobxeco and other articles of freif lit.
