......The <Weather> yesterday was rather too warm to be pleasant, although a gentle wind kept the heat from becoming oppressive. ......The <River> is still slowly receding here, but was reported to be rising yesterday at Pittsburg. At Cincinnati it had risen 5 inches in 24 hours. ......The magnificent New Orleans packet <Emerald> passed up last night, loaded down with passengers, and having the huge barge <Charley West> in tow. ......The <Charley Bowen> arrived late last night. ......The Louisville and New Orleans packet <Woodford> touched at this place and took on a large lot of freight last night. ......The steamer <Atlantic> was advertised to leave Portland for New Orleans yesterday evening, and will pass here to-day. ......The light-draught steamer <John Tompkins>, from Louisville to Memphis, will pass down to-day. ......The fast freight and passenger steamer <Lebanon> left Louisville yesterday for St. Louis, and will pass this port to-day. ......The elegant passenger steamer <Lancaster>, No. 3, now running between Louisville and St. Louis, passed up yesterday afternoon. She had on board eighty-five head of mules from Missouri, which she will land at Portland. We understand that it is the intention of her owners to put her into the packet line between Louisville and Henderson, after she has made another trip or so on her present beat. The <Lancaster> is a nice boat, and Capt. Keyt and Mr. Craig are gentlemanly and efficient officers. ......Captain Rothrock's nice little steamer <Union> has received a thorough washing, and will soon be repainted and otherwise fitted up, preparatory to entering the packet trade between Louisville and this place. ......A new and singular looking craft called the <Frontier City> passed down early yesterday morning, bound for Arkansas river. ......The <Sir William Wallace> from Pittsburg on her way to St. Louis was here yesterday evening. Her clerk reports that the wreck of the <Scioto> which was burned at Shippingport lies very much in the channel, and is an obstruction to boats passing out of the canal. ......The <Quapaw>, from Cincinnati, passed this place last evening, her destinaton the Arkansas River. ......The <Wenona>, of Cincinnati, was here yesterday on her way up from Nashville. ======= Washington Items. WASHINGTON, June 6. The Japanese princes, accompanied by their principal officers and the general Commissioner, proceeded to the executive mansion, to-day at noon, to take leave of the President. The latter received them in the blue room, iu company with Gen. Cass, and several other gentlemen. The interview was cordial and of comparatively long continuance. The distinguished visitors, through their interpreter, expressed their high appreciation of the President's address, and of the many kind attentions bestowed on them. The President presented to eaeh of the princes a large gold medal, bearing his likeness and a suitable inscription, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, and also a number of beautifully bound books. Tue3e were received with evident delight. At parting the hand shaking was mutually cordial, and the interview throughout was of a gratifying and pleasant character. There seems to be but little if any doubt that the House bill for the admission of Kansas into the Union will pass the Senate; whether with or without amendments is uncertain. Seuator Bigler to-day declared he would vote for the measure without qualification. The taro Houses disagreeing on the question of restoring the mail service, a committee of conference has been appointed, consisting of Senators Pearce, Vulee, and Cameron; of Representatives Colfax, Washbarnp, of Me., and Crawford. The Postmaster General has answered the call concerning Mr. Fowler's defalcation, and makes some extraordinary revelaIt appears that his accounts Were never legally settled during the whole term of his Administration, but were adjusted by a fictitious system, in apparent violation of the letter and spirit of the law. Since the House amended the Pacific Telegraph bill by throwing the construction open to the lowest bidder, it has been discovered that a certain gigantic monopoly intends, if the Senate concur in this amendment, i.) bid .-so low as to prevent any other party from procuring the contract, at living rates, thus securing the entire contract of telegraphing from th Atlantic to the Pacific and increasing the power of the monopoly alluded to, to a still more dangerous extent than now. Mo.NTtioMBH v, Ala., June 0. The National Democratic Convention sent a full delegation to Baltimore am nominated an electoral ticket. T-e delegates at large are D. C. Humphrey, S. C. Pasley. V. O. Those atjlarge are l- S. Lyons, A. B. Meek, B. W. Paine, W. L Yancey, Wm. Brooks, P. D. Smith, L. T. Walker, L. W. Taylor, and 20 district delegates. Mr. Yancey had the floor thi3 morning, and spoke in favor of the minority platform. Mr. Gardner of Richmond followed in favor of the minority platform. Mr. Jackson of Savannah spoke in favor of the majority platform, and Mr. Cobb of Washington City closed the debate. All of the speeches were able and maDy of them eloquent. C. W. Stiles called the previous question, and the main question was ordered. The vote was then taken on the minority platform and resulted yeas 75, nays SOS. The vote was then taken on the majority report, and resulted ayes 298, nays 41. The Convention then adjourned. Coxcoro, N H., June 6.
