The Dred Scott Case The Dred Scott Decision of iheSuprcme Court is recognized both by the Democratic State Convention and the Democratic National Convention at Ch.irle3ton as pood law and good political doctriuo. Sound Democrats must swear by it none dare deny its correctness and binding force on the party. Mr, Douglas interprets the decision cue wa another ; but they are under that decision cfa! and reiardsd ma property M tuchanan eed that ecognized Coastitution of the United States. We hear much of the Dred Scott ciiso, but perhnp3 have: reflected little upon it, and know little of it.-', force and effecl upon the nation. We give (he views of one of the soundest lawyer.-:, ablest statesmen, and rlearest minds of lire country upon it; and we ask our readers if lite argument is not overwhelming ? In the joint delnte a' Galeshurgb, Mr. Lincoln spoke as follow.' : The essence of the Dred Scolt case is compressed into the sentence which 1 will now read : "Now, as wo bave already said in an earlier part of this opinion, upon a different point, the right of properly in a slave is distinctly and expressly affirmed in the Constitution' I repeat it, " The right of property in a slave is- distinctly and expressly affirmed in the Constitution .'" What i3 it to be afirmetT in the Constitution ? ilude firm iu the Constitution so made that it cannot be separated from the Constitution without breaking the Constitution -durable as the Constitution, and part of the Constitution. Now, remembering I be provision ot the Constitution which I have read, affirming Unit that instrument is the supreme law of the land; that the judges of every State shall be bound by it, any law or Constitution of any State to the contrary notwithstanding ; that the right of property in a slave is affirmed in that Constitution, is made, formed into, and cannot be separated from it without breaking it: durable as the instrument part of the instrument;--what follows as a abort and even syllogistic argument from it? 1 think it follows, and I submit to the consideration of men capable ol arguing, whether as I state it, in syllogistic form, tbc argument has any fault in it? Nothing in the Constitution or laws of any Slate can destroy a right distinctly and expressly affirmed in the Constitution of the Knited States. The right of property in a slave is distinctly and expressly affirmed in tbe Constitution of the United States. Therefore, nothing in tin- Constitution or laws of any State can destroy the right of property iu a slave. 1 believe that no fault can be pointed out in that argument; assuming the truth eI the premises, the conclusion, so tar as I have capacity at all to understand it, follows : . e i .. 'Pl,..., : . ,. ...i, : :. i .i ,a ? " " "'-. nut ids latin is :.ot in uie reasoning; r.ui the falsehood in fact is a fault of the pre inises. I believe that the right of property in a slave M not distinctly and expressly affirmed in the Constitution, nnd Judge Douglas Ihink3 it ut. I I Supreme Court and the : decision mav search in rain at lite if that dace in the Constitution wh rig ol t slave is distincllj an.t express I say, therefore, that 1 think premises is not true in fact. B with Judge Douglas. It is im Supreme Court w ho pronounci ,. , ' true the 1 bey I it. il beiri 'l'l"-'-' "i ' topped from denying it., the conclnsion lollows that the Constitntiou of the United States lieing the supreme law, no coastltlttion or law can interfere with ir. It being SSS : Z v..! : tizx i ly affirmed in the Constitution, the eonelusion inevitably follotcs thai no State law or constitution can destroy that right. I then say to Judge DonglaS and to all others, that I think it will take a better answer than a sneer to show that tin, so who have said that the right of prop i ly in slave is diatiactlv and expressly affirmed in the Constitution, nie not prepared to show thai no constitution or law can destroy that right. I sav 1 ladieve it will take a far better argument than a mere sneer to show the minds of intelligent men that arboever has so said, is not prepared, w henever public sentiment is so far advanced as to justify it, to say the other. This is but .;u opinion, and the opinion of one very humble man: bt.! it is my opinion that ilie Dred Scot! decision, as it is, never would hove been made in its present form if the party that made it hud not .ren sustained preciously by tht tieetion. My own opinion is, that the new Dred S- oit decisiou deciding against the liyhl of the people of the States to exclude slavery, wiil never be made, rf thai party is not shslained by the elections. I believe, further, that t just as sure to be made ; to morrow f to come, if that party shall ! ivrtaim d Llov. Douglas reaurds if. At another de

He did not commit himself on account of the merit or dnmerit of the decision, but it is a Thtis saith the Lord. The nest decision, as much as this, will be a Thus saith the Ljord. There is nothing that can divert or turn him away from this decision. It is nothing that 1 point out to him that his great prototype, ' Gen. It is nothing to him i that Jefferson did not so believe.-' What shall u-e do about it t ' The Judge ! indulged himself, doubtless to-day, with the I question as to what I am going to do with ! or about the Dred Scott decision. Well, Judge, will you please to tell me what you j did about the U. S. bank decision ? Will i you not graciously allow us to do with the ' Dred Scott decision precisely as you did i with the bank decision ? He Can Sdit 'E All. We stated recently that .ludoe Law would have opposition in his Congressional aspirations. On second thougbt, we don't see the need of having any other candidate than Judge Law. Why ? Because be has been on all sides iii politics, and, sure, can't he satisfy all the people? Suppose he goes into the old Whig neighborhoods, he can point to his record while a member of that party. If he goes into Warrick, Dubois, or other dyed-in-the-WOol Democratic counties, be cm plead his former abuse ot Henrv Clay 1 . to prove bis Democratic orthodoxy, and to clinch the nail, he can tell them that he was both for nnd against Jndge Hovey in 1858 and for and acrainst the Adininistration on the Lecompton issue. Il-'; and finish, the improvement lias been real, leaving nothing to bu desired on that point, but the severe competition iu price, to which thev have heeu subjected, lias deprived them of many of the more substantial tjualities ; defltiable. This neems more especially to have been ; the ofptt iu reference to cook moves an article of ; domestic economy that lias more to do with scolding wives aud oro'cheiy servants than most people imagine. The public have long Nought nn improvement in this article, and we believe are ready to pay : any reasonable price for a OooUng stove, if it only DoaBeasea tbe merits of alsa. vnlkht convenience, durability, economy, and perfection of nmmtlaciu!'. . These qualities seem to bo possessed moat fully in the Ecoii'-mtst new stove, perfected nnd brought out the past ssssnas. by Mensrs. Troadwell, Perry Sl Norton, of Albuuy. We heard ao much of this ' store, and it looked s much like a stove intended ' for use, that wo concluded to try tbein, and the j result of the experiment convinces us that the proprietors, in their determination to make thefce etses i nVe amrasTi have succeeded. We regard the t Economist as possessing all the merits above enu- j Baafsted tia the great store of the day far in advance of anything ever attempted In the Una of j stoves, perfect in all its appointinent., and true to its name in durability ami the use of fuel. Among ! the many conveniences attached to it, may be mon- ! tioned h targe oven, with hooks arranged, for sua- j pending meats while roasting. A copper water j tauk, holding from 12 to 86 gallons warming closet, broiliug hearth, tf-c., aVc. The broiling i hearth laemeof the most notici abie features of this j , remarkable stove. There never has been, to our knowledge, any broiling flxtnie that was really sat- 1 j is factory in ita operation. The proprietors of this j stove have been conducting a series of experiments upon broiling, eliciting some valuable facts, and resuiting in th invention of a gridiron adapted to this stove, which hits been secured by letters patent, and is one of the mout admirable t hings of the kind ! wo ever saw broiling without fcinoke, and keepi the coals in a constant glow.
