The Weather. yesterday, was extremely windy and dust Hew to diigrtealle extent. The wind and dust, which had been a constant source of annoyance to ivetlestriaus during the day, received a rfalu3 last nigbt from the rain. Business oa the eree was nntisally dull. Freights are scarce and but few shipment:; were made. The River still recedes and we may Boon expect the appearance of fund-bars. The Wabash packets, it seems, have already found some of these animals and stuck fast on them. We trust, however, the loats may yet work tbeir way through. A change has taken place in the otliceis of the Silver Star. Mr. Jordou Flouraoy has assumed command, aud Mr. Hunting takes charge of the oBice. Capt. -Hall will act as agent for both the Silvir Star and Dunbar, and from his acquaintance anil activity, we dare say, trill increase the business ol those boats largely. The D. B. Camppell left for Una - ling Green last night with a light trip. The Lot Ewes, is the regular South C'arrolton packet this afternoon. !apt. McDjuald and Zack Taylor will be found on board, ready and anxious to do the agreeable. The D. B. Campbell arrived yesterday morning with a tair trip, she had on board about 52 hhds of tobacco, and & tierces of meat. The swift Dunbar Is the mail and coa -t packet to-day for Paducah. She id under the command of dipt. Fowler with (.Jus Dusouchet in the office. Hoth of these gentlemen are efficient and accommodating officers. The Bfiwtn and Silver Star left at their usual hour. Tb D. B. Campbell, departed last night with a fair trip. The Autocrat will be at our landing to-day on her way to Louisville. We had the pleasure, yesterday, of meeting our friend Mr. Edwards, formerly of the Bracelet. Alf. looks hearty and in fine spirits. The Atlantic will probably be in port to-day, with shingle out for New Orleans. The story of the marriage of oar friend Zack Taylor turns out to be a hoax, gotten up for the amusement nf som of Zack's acquaintances. All we have to say is, we are sorry it was not true, for if there is auy one calculated to make a woman happy, it is our friend Zack. The following is from the pen of the Editor of the Rockort Democrat, who was in our city long enough to be well satisfied of the truth of what he asserts : Evansville is improving rapidly, and a ill soon realize the most ardent hopes ot her citizens There is more produ,-e shipped here than at Louisville. The " Baltic," and " J'acijic," have just completed their cargoes of produce for the South, and still leave the levee covered with freight. All the large Louisville, boats load at this point. The business men of Evansville are adopting a very judicious course. They give substantial eucouragement to their numerous packet boats to Paducah, Cairo, Wabash, and Green River, and in return they get the trade from the points thus tapped. They ought to have a daily line of packets to Kockport and Cannelton. In time it would be self-sustaiuing. aud at once result to the advantage of Evansville. If the Evansville folks would take time to think about this enterprise they would lie convinced of its u tility. The immense anioc.it of grain and toliaceo raised in Warrick, Spencer, and Perry counties, on this side of the river, and of Hancock and Daviess on the other, would gradually seek Evansville as the grand shipping point for New Orleans'. Flat Boat Sunk. Last Friday a flat boat, loaded with corn, endeavored la go over the falls, and when just below the mill, on the Indiana shore, she struck the rocks and sunk. Canal Receipts.
