FOR SECRETARY OF STATE, WILLIAM A. PEELLE, of Randolph. FOR TREASURER OF STATE, JONATHAN S. HARVEY, of Clarke. Jfor auditor of state, ALBERT LANGE, ot Vigo. FOR attorney general, JAMES O. JONES, of Vanderburgh. FOR reporter of supreme court, BENJAMIN HARRISON, of Marion. FOR CLERK OF SUPREME COURT, JOHN P. JONES, of Lagrange. FOR SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION, MILES J. FLKTCHER, of Putnam. Tbc Japanene Eiuhaksy, The following hy Overland Pony Express iu relation to the outfit and accompaniments of the Japanese Embassy, will be read with interest : The United States steamer Powhatan, Capt. Pearson, bearing Flag Officer Tattmli, arrived on the 27th at San Francisco, troin Japan via Honolulu. She brings the Japanese Embassy, consisting of two principal Ambassadors, Princes of the highest rank among the nobility of the Empire, and two associates, who are nobles of nearly equal rank. Tbese four are of the Emperor's council. They are accompanied by a suite if sixteen officers. Among them are three interpreters, and fifry-two subordinates, making seventy-two in all. They bring $100,000 to defray personal expenses, although the Embassy is invited at the sole expense of the United States. They were given the best quarters on board the Powhatan during the voyage, and arrived iu good health and highly pleased. The chief dignitaries are magnificently dressed iu embroidered silk robes, each wearing a sword of beautiful workmanship. They have conducted themselves with great dignity and propriety. Tbe Powhatan on the day of her arrival went to Mare Islaud Navy Yard, all the Ambassadors remaining on board. It will take several days to overhaul the steamer and take in coal, when she will Bail for Panama. The Ambassadors will then proceed to Aspinwall, where the United States steamer Roanoke is expected to be in waiting to carry them to Washing ton. The Japanese Government had commenced stampiug Mexican dollars, making tbem the legal currency ot that country, thus obviating one of tbe principal difliculties in prosecuting trade with foreigners. The Powltatan arrived at Honolulu, March 5tb, and remained till the ldih The Ambassadors were there received with all formal honors. Private hospitalities were extended, and the King and Queen held court at the palace for the reception of the distinguished foreigners, and welcomed them in appropriate terms. The Ambassadors who visited San Francisco on the 31st ult., have remained the guests of the city ever since. $2,000 was appropriated from the city treasury to provide for their suitable entertainment. The corporation officers, members of the Legislature, tbe Governor and citizens gen. erally have paid their respects iu ieison, and on tbe 2nd instant a graud public reception was given the strangers at tbe largest ball in the city, when United State officers, civil and military, Foreign Consuls and State authorities participated iu the ceremonies The Powhatan was expected to sail tor Panama on the 5th instant. The Japanese carry an immense amount of baggage, including many boxes, presents to the ITnited States Government. Newsfromtlie Pacific. The State Capital seem j permanently located at Sacramento, $100,000 btiviug been appropriated for the commencement of a Capitol building, which is lo cost, when completed, 500,000. The Japanese steam corvette, condemned, has been iu the dry dock at Mare Island na vy yard, and put in complete order, free of expense, Commodore Cunningham explaining, that while he had no actual authority to render tbis accommodation, be felt sure he was but carrying out the intentions of his Government, in doing for the Japanese steamer all that he could do for an American man-of-war. The news from the Washoe roiues is about as heretofore reported. Emigration thither is increasing. San Juan Island was in joint otcupaucy by American and British troops. It was estimated that 3,000 white men and 3,000 Chinamen were mining. The accounts are encouraging, and new diggings have been discovered in various places. The news Irotu Oregon and Washington is unimportant. Ceson City, April 4. The excitement iu regard to the silver and gold mines in this region is unabated. Hundreds are pouring iu from all parts of California, and scarcely a company who are prospecting have failed on striking rich ore where they anticipated to find it. The population is increasing very fast, and it is thought that in two mouths the population will be 50,000. Security is very bad. No laws for tbe collection of debts or tbe punishment of criminals. Murders and tights are of daily occurrence. Tbe weather is stormy to day, with a heavy fall of snow in the mouutains. The Pony Express is greeted with great enthusiasm by the people of the valley, and as we have had but a semi-monthly mail during the past winter, the prospects of a quick communication wilh 1 1 tends iu the East are very encouraging. The telegraph line is now completed to Miller s Station, and an office will be opened at that point during the present week. Miller'd Station is thirty miles east of this city, en route to Salt Lake, and in two weeks the line will be in operation sixty miles still ftntbi 1 east, when the tixie will be reduced to eiut das from St. Joseph lo Sail Francisco for telegraph disjatches. The rush to the Carsuu Valley mines is slill increasing. The hotels are crowded, and crowds are leaving every day. Many are deterred tor want ol means to gel over the mountains. fly A correspondent of l he Pi iucfct on IndfatMM akfm, there is a propObiliou ou toot to torui a new county out of iriiTious of Posey, Vanderburgh aud liiusoa. Tin- Judgeship. The accora)iiying letter, requesting Judge Pitcher to become a candidate for the office of Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, coming, as it doss, from the class the best qualified to estimate his services, and signed as we are informed, bj nearly every member of the bar within his jurisdiction, is a compliment deserving the pecuniary sacrifice which the Judge makes la serve in the no less honorable but less lucrative office than that or' a most successful counsellor and pleader at the bar: Mount Veunon. Indiana, 1 Feb. 20, 1860. J Hon. The New York Times makes an elaborate and candid showing of the -it-. of the census of this year on the representation of the several Stales in Congress. The other Slates will stand as they are. The Tncs sums up the remarkable facts as follow. : 1. All the old and In r.70 Stales of Union, without exception, lose ground atively, and mi:f of tliein positively. 2. The South loses ground largely ; the relthe State of Texas, having tin- tuld the Territory of the old States, ami lying west of the Mississippi, is the only one that gains. 3.
