Moaee McLellan, Nainphis, Messenger, Ciiu JollU JiHIIIK, 14. II., -The Weather, yesttniny, was warm. Ia the afternoon the sky became overcast with clouds, anil the dull roar of thunder was heard, but while we wore anxiously awaiting the cxiectetl shower, i!m clouds passed around sj leaving n-j n3 dry and dusty as before. A fine shower fell West of Vincennes and South of Seymour, and "we still hope for ft visitation from the general raia. The River, yesterday, declined a little, but last night about CJ o'clock rain commenced falling-, and we may confidently look for a rise. The ruin has been general throughout the count.-y. Freights are becoming scarce and have declined a little in price. The following are the ruling figures at present : Corn, 25c per sack; tobacco 5perhhdj flour, 40c per bbl; pork -COo per bid; whisky 75c. per bbl. I'oand freights 2Dc per 100 pounds. The Bowen left yesterday with a light trip The Lite Eaves also departed for South Carrol ton, with n moderate trip. She had on hoard a lot of shingles. ...... Thig j3 the regular day for the lively Dunbar. A gentleman who took passage on her, on a recent trip, informs us that he never sat down to a finer dinner on the Ohio Uiver, than was spread out before him on board the Dunbar. lie was quite enthusiastic in his praise of the boat and her accommodations, and we are assured that all who travel on that steamer will cudorse the correctness of tho gentleman's statements. The Dunbar loaves at 12 o'clock . The John Raine commenced receiving freight last night, and we presume was at the landing the greater part of the night. The E. II. FuircJtild passed np last night, or will be up this morning. Capt. F.T. Batchelor, late of Urn IF. . JHaclay, has been apjointod President of the Cincinnati and St. Louis Express Inn- of steamers. One fireman wuk killed. and the engineer, named McK niplit, urn! the Carpenter, a Mr. Ilrooks and one hand, were dangerously scalded. Mr. Jolintinn, tin; Clerk, was slightly scalded. The fi.-st indication the McLellan had of the disaster was the sudden lifting of the chimneys on the uaty, winch was instantaneously follow ed by the crashing of her tipper works. The McLellan immediately hurried to the unfortunate steamer, which by this time vns on hre. borne ot the passengers and crew of the Galy were endeavoring to extinguish the flames with buckets) whilst others had jumped into the boats, and some into the river. Through the prompt and energetic t Hurts ot Capt. Archer and his crew, the Haines were extingnished, nnd the sufferers relieved so far as it was in their power to relieve them. Ihe Southerner soon afterwards came up and took the Galy in tow for Louisville. The Sttm Gatg was a new boat destined for the Missouri river. The builders of her machinery were principal owners of the boat, and we understand were on board at the time of the accident. The cause, of the accident is unknown. It must have been g.ime defect in the boiler which broke in two in the middle The upper works of the boat were badly wreckwl, but the hull is a? sound as ever. One of our steandwiatinen and n partner in one of our manufacturing establishments, took an unpleasant way of settling accounts yesterday. It seems they got into a dispute, nnd talked until one became so exasperated that he threw a stone at the other, hitting him a severe blow on the arm. The difficulty ended by the Squire lining the one who threw the missile $5 and the cost3. The New Albany Ledger says it is reported that Capt. Harry 1 . bpotts, ot the famous Eclipse, is to take command of the Autocrat on her next trip to New Orleans. The Kate French, Capt. Caffrcy, was advertised to leave Louisville yesterday, ami will probably be lit our landing to-day. -Cant. Ford s new lioat, the . G. Fer ry, will lie ready to launch in about three weeks at Albany. Pilie is to be commanded by Capt. Hani Smith The Cincinnati Gazette mxs the Uiti verse received some damage from a snag on her upward trip, aa I was placed upon the ways in that city.
